My ipod nano screen is blank
Hi,
My nano is working fine in terms of sound, etc but the screen is blank. When the backlight is on, it just looks white. When the light goes out, it is all dark. I can't see the menu options or what song is playing. I tried resetting my nano but it didn't help.
Has this happened to anyone else? How did you fix it?

IPod Nano Screen is blank and dosen't turn on or off.
I leave my ipod nano on for 2 seconds. Screen turns blank and dosen't turn on or off. iTunes dosen't recognize it. Nothing I do works. Charging dosen't work. iPod, however seems to be on sleep mode.
After leaving the iPod to charge for a minimum of at least 30 minutes, have you tried a hard reset of the device? To do this, make sure the hold switch along the top is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Can anyone please tell me - ( I have spent many hours on the apple website looking for contact details of a real person; but no good )- what to do with my IPod Nano screen that does not work. It is not cracked but is very bright, unreadable and seems to have gibberish on it.
I have tried the RESET trick but can see nothing on the screen.
I live near DUBAI and nobody will talk to me about the problem. I won the thing in a competition last December and it only worked for a few weeks.
Please help me Obeonekinobe, you're my only hope.

my iPod nano screen is frozen and will not respond. It shows the song which was playing is paused, but will not resume playing. I have held down all controls, and changed the slide switch, but nothing happens
Hi Goofy Goat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have done some great troubleshooting for your iPod nano that is not responding. In this situation, if resetting it did not resolve, I would suggest restoring the iPod back to its factory settings and then sync your content back onto it from iTunes. Please use the following article as a resource for restoring.

I have a big problem with the iPod Nano screen. It just doesn't work. I have tried reseting the ipod, restoring it but it just doesn't work.
It is not a screen problem because when I plug it on to the PC the screen lightens up with just white on it.
I could listen to the song by "blindly" selecting Shuffle. But now I can't even do that.
I would REAALY appreaciate any help.If you can get one sent or brought down to you, you can replace it yourself It is not that hard to do, or I am sure you can find someone to do it for you. I live in Mexico and it is hard to get parts to us, there is also no repair place close, but we have people come from the states every once and awhile and they bring us parts so we can repair our own. Go on ebay and you will find screens for under 15 dollars U.S. and it comes with the tools that you will need to open your nano. Hope this helps.

HT1384 My ipod's screen is blank even when in the dock. Why?
I had my ipod plugged into my computer which I was using on battery while making my playlist from itunes. When it came time to transfer onto the ipod, the ipod's screen was blank and not responding. Then I noticed it wasn't showing up on the itunes either. However, I plugged it right into the dock station and it still has a blank screen and not responding when I press on it.
Please help........I need it for my class tomorrow morning.
Thank you.
Venera *****Hello there, Venera.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some practical steps for troubleshooting your issue:
iPod troubleshooting basics and service FAQ
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1382
Particularly:
Start with these first
Make sure that your computer meets the system requirements for the iPod.
In some cases, simply updating to the latest versions of iTunes and iPod Software may resolve your issue.
Visit the iPod Support page if you have questions about using your iPod or need help with an issue.
Check out these helpful tutorials for more information on updating and troubleshooting your iPod.
Your iPod doesn't respond, won't turn on, or the display remains blank
If your iPod doesn't respond, is "frozen", won't turn on, or nothing appears on the LCD screen check for these possible causes:
If your iPod has a Hold switch, it may be on. Check the Hold switch to make sure it's not in the locked position. If it is, unlock it and try using iPod again.
Tip: Even if the Hold switch is already in the unlocked position, it's sometimes helpful to toggle it so it's locked and unlocked again.
You may need to reset your iPod. Resetting your iPod does not affect your music or data files.
Your iPod's battery may not be charged. Plug your iPod in, wait for a moment, press a button to turn it on, and check the screen. Here are some easy steps to get the most out of your battery. Note: On recent iPod models, when the battery is completely empty, your computer may not recognize your iPod for up to 30 minutes even though it's connected and charging.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Ipod nano screen completely messed up
I've noticed recently that my Ipod nano screen has become totaly messed up, i can only see the top half of it,where it says Music, Photos, etc. and even that is all deteriorated, whilst the bottom almost look's like a barcode. Although i can still listen to music, volume is inacessible.
Could some one please help me on this, i just got this recently by winning it from a local radio station and I dearly love it, help would be appreciated.
PS: this is not something physicly on the screen or the result of a scratched screen, it's the actual inside, where the song information etc. is viewed.
Windows 98Hi,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
You might want to try this link:
Resetting iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond
According to the Tech Specs (http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html) Windows 98 isn't supported - could that be the answer?
Windows system requirements
* PC with USB port or card (USB 2.0 recommended)
* Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later

Hi there,
I have just purchased a 2nd hand ipod nano 3rd gen. When I received it the screen was in working order but everything from the previous owner had been wiped. I attatched to computer and all seemed well, attached it then to itunes and at first it seemed to go ok, however screen then went blank and froze.
I am now unable to restart ipod. ipos is still being recognised by itunes so I tried to restart ipod whielst attatched to itunes to to try and put into play mode but still no joy, no apple appearing on screen.
Ipod was fully charged.
Any ideas please as I am not the most technical of people and its slowly driving me mad
Kind Regards
LindseyHow did you try and reset the iPod? To reset the iPod, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together at the same time long enough for the Apple logo to appear. Don't be afraid to try this procedure more than once.

Was listening to my ipod when the screen suddenly blanked out and the music stopped, though the click wheel still kept clicking sounds. It's fine when i reset it but this problem has reoccurred a few times, was wondering if there is anything i can do?
Did you updated iPod software to 1.1.3 version?
If so, downgrade it to 1.1.2 check my reply at:

Or you could call Apple 1-800-275-2273, I think there hours are 9-9 EST Mon_fri.
If you've had it a year I would call them and tell them it's not working and get the Apple Care. -

So, I think my iPod Nano is 2nd gen. I don't know which gen is which, but mine looks like the original nano except with the thicker glass after people cracked them in half by accident. I just noticed today that my screen is dying. About half the screen doesn't have colour anymore, and is instead kind of off-blue-ish, like the ink kind of ran up there. It's hard to describe. Before I consider going out to buy a new iPod (the extended warranty on this one has been expired for about 5 months), I want to make sure it's a hardware issue and it can't be resolved except by a hardware solution.
The reason I'm wondering is cause this happened all at once, no gradual line-by-line degeneration or anything, and I haven't knocked it against anything particularly dangerous (heck, I've barely used the thing for about 2 weeks, and it was fine a couple days ago when I used it). Also, when an LCD breaks, it usually spills ink all over the screen, which didn't happen to mine. It's almost completely blanked out.
Thanks.I have a 2nd generation iPod nano; the screen on it is not displaying anymore. I'm wondering if it even could have been messed up by staying in my iPod stereo system for quite some time. I now have an iPod Touch as my primary MP3 player, but still want the older iPod nano to work properly as an extra iPod.

Ipod nano screen fade then locks
has anyone had this problem where if you hold the menu button down, then the 2gb black ipod nano locks up and the image on the screen fades away slowly until the lcd is blank? then the nano won't start up anymore (until it is plugged into a computer). toggling hold does not work, and pressing both the menu and center button doesn't do anything either. is this a defect for my particular nano or is this possible some kind of software bug that needs some kind of restoring?
also, on a related note, plugging it in to the computer (xp) sometimes brings up the apple logo then it jumps to a discharged battery lightning logo (battery is full). i have to keep plugging/unplugging until i get to the "do not disconnect" screen, then the nano works fine and shows the full battery on the upper right (to prove its charged).
any help on this would be great, thanks!I figured out the cause of this problem, basically if you reset your ipod (menu and center), then the nano freezes and the screen image fades... has anyone had this problem? I'm also having a very very difficult time trying to get the nano back to a working state since none of the buttons work... when i plug it in to the computer, the screen shows an apple, backlight flashes on for a second then goes away, and it quickly jumps to a lightning bolt battery... unfortunately the battery is fully charged (green) from before the nano froze, and constantly plugging/unplugging the usb connector sometimes brings the nano back to normal working condition...
I was wondering, what happens on a normal nano when you reset it (menu and center) without being plugged in... does it freeze as well?
I also tried a full restore via ipod updater when i finally got it working, but the problem still exists and i hit menu+center and froze it and now i am plugging/unplugging to the computer to try to get that 1% chance it will boot up properly... any advice?
