My iPod Nano will not sync with my brand new Mac Air...will charge

My iPod nano (touch) will not sync with my iTunes on my brand new Macbook Air. It will charge my iPod and give the option to eject the iPod, but it will not recognize my iPod to sync. Any ideas why and how to fix it?

Hey all, I had to call Apple Support to resolve the issue as nothing on the web provided an answer. So for all you out there having the same problem, here's the ituation and full resolution, so you can save time and money (if your product's warranty is expired).
Situation: I bought a brand new Mac Air on 12/7/12 and tried to sync my 6th generation iPod nano (previously configured to a PC) with no sucess. ITunes was only allowing me to charge and eject the nano.
Solution:
1. Go to View>sidebar
2. In the sidebar, click "iPod" under the Devicies category
3. Click "Music" section next to "Summary" under the status bar
4. Make sure "Sync" box is checked with your preferred preferences underneath
5. Click "Sync" in bottom right corner of window
Apparently, iTunes 11 is quite different and the sidebar with usual options and playlists does not appear unless selected in the "View" drop-down.
FINISHED!

  • IPod Nano won't sync with iTunes on new laptop

When I first got my new laptop about a month ago I did the 'homesharing' technique to be able to use my iTunes on it, it worked successfully up until I tried to purchase new music from the iTunes Store & upload music into my Library from my laptop.. It just wouldn't sync onto my Nano! Every time I clicked the Sync tab nothing would happen even though the music had all been purchased/uploaded perfectly fine. I had ofcourse made sure my iTunes was 'activated' onto my new laptop, etc etc & when I went onto my old laptop to try it on there all the music DID sync onto my Nano.
Since then I've re-installed iTunes several times even copied my full iTunes folder onto an external USB stick & transferred it that way & still my Nano will not sync with my iTunes! The new iTunes isn't helping much either as I find it quite confusing to work out as it's totally different. But yeah even with the new iTunes upgrade my Nano still won't sync.
I'm at a loss, I've no idea what the problem is! Can anyone help?

  • Ipod nano does not sync with itunes library, ipod nano does not sync with itunes library

bought an ipod nano, upgraded Itunes to version 11 running on Windows 8.
My nano is set  up with a different apple ID than my main account, but it won't sync with my Itunes Library, When I plug it in via USB, the IPOD nano icon shows up in Itunes, but when I do File>Devices>Sync,  the Snyc is grayed out.
does the differenct apple ID on the nano have anything to do with the fact that it is different from my Itunes Apple ID, is that causing a problem? Most of the music in my library is uploads from CDs I had already owned, not Itunes purchases.
    Solutions?

Automatic syncing is set up on the iPod's Music tab in iTunes, which is where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.
To use automatic syncing, the checkbox for Sync Music is checked.  Below that, you can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits on iPod.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
With the latter choice, you can create a selection of songs to sync to the iPod by selecting (checkmarking) playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres on the Music tab.  For example (if you want to keep it simple), you can create a new playlist in iTunes and add all songs you want on the iPod to that playlist.  Back on the Music tab, checkmark that playlist.  There are many ways to set it up...
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs syncs to the iPod (replacing its existing content). Going forward, any changes in the iTunes Music library that are related to your selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically to the iPod when you connect it, or when you click Sync.
Therefore, if you create that playlist with songs you want on the iPod, and select it on the iPod's Music tab, you can simply update that playlist in iTunes (add and remove songs) whenever you want, and those changes sync to the iPod automatically at the next opportunity.

Hmm.. Thank you for the response.
Have you tried using the iPod with another user account or computer, to help narrow down whether the problem lies with the computer, account, or the iPod itself?
Maybe try reformatting it, using the tools provided by Windows. Instructions on how to reformat your iPod can be found in this article.

My Ipod touch does not sync with my Windows 8.1 I cloud calendar?  it syncs from windows computer to itouch but not vice versa

Make sure you are entering the events on your iPod in the iCloud calendar and not something else such as On My iPod.  Check Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar (in the Calendars section) to be sure you have selected an iCloud calendar as your default.

after restoring ipod nano it wont sync with itunes. states error 13019 occured

I seem to recall that another user has this problem and found that it was because of some corrupted music files they were trying to sync over.
Try syncing smaller bunches of tracks till you come upon the ones that cause the error. You should be able to find out which ones are causing the trouble this way.
The other user said they used something called MP3Diags. I cannot vouch for this software at all, I have never used it.
I did a quick search on "how to repair MP3 files on Mac" and also found this:

  • My new ipod nano does not sync the ipod name cannot be synced the required disk cannot be found

my new ipod nano does not sync the ipod name cannot be synced the required disk cannot be found

Wow .... so you are syncing via WiFi when you sync .... would that be correct?
I would still quit iTunes and then restart and see what happens. The iPad and iTunes must be playing some weird games.
If you do sync via WiFi (I do), I think you are better off closing iTunes when you are done - unless of course you are using iTunes for Home Sharing or something like that. My experience is that if you leave iTunes running, the iPad and iTunes just start sending weird signals back and forth.
Since I started Wifi syncing, I have seen messages in iTunes that made absolutely no sense at all. Anyway, that's my take on it. If you do not WiFi sync, then I have no clue why you are getting these messages.

  • IPOD Touch does not sync with Address Book

    Hello,
I recently purchased a 16GB iPOD Touch. I synced with itunes on my Mac successfully (10.5.1), however i am unable to get my Address Book to sync with the iPOD
Any ideas - i have enabled iTunes/iPOD to sync with my Address Book when i connect my iPOD, but no joy.
    Ideas?
    Thanks

I can no longer sync my iPod Touch with my Address Book. I'm not sure if this started after I updated iTunes (now at 7.6.2), but the two no longer sync. I tried clicking the advanced option (Info tab in iTunes) to copy over all contacts to my iPod, but nothing changed. I tried the advice to check only a few groups, and it did remove the other groups. So I tried reducing the # of groups I was using.... Then when I checked sync all contacts again, all the old groups showed up again on my iPod, that no longer existed in my Address Book. Strange! Also frustrating and time-consuming.
I don't think this question is "answered" yet. Has anyone found a solution? How do you notify Apple of this type of problem?

My ipod nano will not sync with my computer. I used the restore store settings and now there is nothing on it. Help please.

Is this the computer you originally set the Nano up on or sync it with?  Are you sure your iPod isn't set up for Manually manage.  In others, the manually manage music option is enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab?

  • IPod Nano 6g not syncing - Apple Mobile Device Support can't install

i recently got iTunes working again on my computer. my grandfather wanted me to sync his old iPod Nano, so i did that and it worked fine. i then tried to sync my own iPod Nano 6g, and it gave me the error:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
i tried reconnecting the iPod, of course, and then tried reinstalling iTunes, but the same error kept coming up. if i closed iTunes, then connected the iPod, i could find it in My Computer, but after opening iTunes it would give me the error and eject itself. i then tried all the stuff outlined here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ituneshelp/?kbase=TS1363&viewlocale=en_US
but that didn't help. i tried plugging the iPod into the USB ports at the back of the computer, but nope.
i soon discovered that Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't running or installed on the computer, and that that may be the source of the problem. however, i looked in my C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple folder and there was a Apple Mobile Device folder. it didn't appear complete, though, as there wasn't the 'bin' folder needed to run AMDS properly. i renamed this Apple Mobile Device folder, adding an 'OLD' at the end, so as to not interrupt any times i would try to install AMDS in this folder properly.
i first tried a simple complete uninstall then reinstall of iTunes, but i noticed during the install that when the installer got to the stage of installing Apple Mobile Device Support, it would stop and then say 'rolling back action' and the loading bar would move backwards, before installing the rest of iTunes as normal. hence, AMDS was still uninstalled and my iPod still wasn't being recognized by iTunes.
i tried extracting the iTunesSetup.exe file, and then running the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi file separately, but it would give me the same rolling back action thing and it would end in 'installation interrupted, system was not modified, please try again later'. tried disabling my anti-virus then installing iTunes, then disabling my anti-virus and running the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi separately but nothing was different.
please help. why is Apple Mobile Device Support not installing? and is this actually the reason why my iPod is not syncing with iTunes? any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

On rare occasions on Windows XP systems, I've seen that effect produced when there are old files/folders for the netaapl.sys and usbaapl.sys drivers stuck down in your Windows Operating system folders. If that's afoot, the following (somewhat involved) procedure may be of some assistance:

  • IPod nano - does not sync some songs in full

There are a number of songs from my iPod library that would not transfer in full to my iPod - they stop playing in the middle or a few seconds into the song. Tried restoring the iPod and uploading the songs again - the problem remains and it is related to exactly the same songs. The songs are from genuine CDs.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

In your case...the nano can not sync Videos or Games. You may see playlists on your iPod for these but they are just playlists that iTunes synced to the Nano. If you look at the info for video games under the "iPod + iTunes" section you will see a note that states only 5th Gen Video iPods can play the games purchased in iTunes. Also, only Video iPods can play videos at this time.

  • My ipod classic is not syncing with my new computer

I have an ipod classic 160 gb that is not syncing with my laptop that runs windows 7. According to itunes that pops up when I connect it to the laptop I have all the latest software for itunes and for my ipod. I had this ipod connected to itunes on an older laptop and that crashed and I no longer have anyway to use it as I have not had it fixed yet. So thinking I could just use the new computer like the old one I installed itunes on the new laptop and connected and authorized my new computer. As of right now itunes recognizes all the old songs that were on it and I'm guessing the old computer, but when I have purchased new songs they wont transfer to the ipod; it doesn't even give me the option to sync my ipod so I can have the new music on it. I can play the new music on itunes on the laptop but like I said it wont go to the ipod. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Is all your content  in your new iTunes when you unplug the iPod? If so then it's pretty easy. You'll have to restore the iPod, which emptys it of content. Only do this if said content is already in iTunes. Reload your content by clicking the iPod tab, and in that window, click the "Music" tab. (It should be on "Summary") In the "Music" window, all your content should appear below. I used the "transfer entire library" option, and then synced. That should do it. If your content only appears in iTunes when your iPod is plugged in, then you'll have to use a third party program, such as YamiPod, to transfer all your music that isn't purchased from Apple. If this is a small amount of data, it may be easier to just reload it, once your iPod has synced.
