My ipod nano won't turn on. HELP

Last night I was listening to music on my 4th generation ipod nano when it completely froze and wouldn't do anything so I reset it by holding the menu and enter button and it came onto the black screen with the white apple logo. Usually it comes off this screen after a few seconds but it just stayed there. I continually reset it and it just kept going back to that black screen. I left the battery to drain and then connected it to a power source and it still did the same thing.
My ipod is literally my life so can somebody please help me

Try resetting it, hold down the center button and the menu button at the same time for about 15-30 seconds or when the apple appears let go of both buttons. If this does not work, do the same thing while it is plugged into the computer or outlet.

  • 7th gen iPod nano won't turn on after disconnect.

7th gen iPod nano won't turn on after disconnect. I loaded some new music, synced and ejected correctly. screen went black on unplug. Waited, did the button trick, didn't work. plugged it back in & it is recognized immediately. restored, resynced & ejected again. same thing-black screen w/ no response. Charged it overnight. ejected, screen then went to language setting. OK for English, eject & back to black on unplug. Switched ports for cable, tried eject thru PC...all resulting in dead nano after unplug. I really don't want to charge into the store & take it out on the poor kid who will catch the brunt of my frustration. anyone have a suggestion?

    Hello Marie,
I would be concerned too if my iPod nano was not powering on.  I found an article for the 6th generation iPod nano that has steps you can take for an issue like this (the only difference for the 7th generation iPod nano is the steps you will take for the reset. I included the steps to reset a 7th generation iPod nano below):
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
You can find the full article here:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3474
All the steps apply to the 7th generation except the steps for the reset.  To reset a 7th generation iPod nano, use these steps:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for six seconds, or until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo appears after a few seconds, and then the Home screen. You may need to repeat this step.
I got these steps from this tutorial, which may also help with your iPod not appearing in iTunes:

Have you tried connecting to iTunes to be restored?  You may need to manually place the iPod into Disk Mode first so that it is recognized by both your Windows OS and iTunes.

Dont be worried- If you ipod is under warranty, and you haven't caused it any harm yourself(ie.if its a problem from Apple's side), then you can get your ipod replaced

  • Help! Ipod nano won't turn on after disconnecting!

Okay I've had my Ipod nano for like 3 weeks. I've used it once. It worked fine when I first got it and after my battery ran out I haven't used it for about a week. When I got it back I hooked it up to my computer and updated the stuff on it as well as let it charge. After is says to safely disconnect, I disconnect it but it automatically turns off and won't turn back on. I've tried resetting it and nothing works. I thought the battery was dead but I've left it plugged in (not only USB on my computer but also tried an outlet) and it never completely charged. I've even left it plugged in overnight (well over the 4 hours it's supposed to charge). I have no idea what to do (It also took like at least a full day to completely charge the first time I've had it)

Okay my iPod wouldn't turn on . (Guess I will be throwing out the box to ship my ipod for warranty replacement)
at like 11pm dec 1 2008, the ipod was dead, pressing the power button did nothing.
I thought it was a goner... I even ordered a warranty replacement..
ipod wouldnt turn on . left it for 24 hours. when I got home from school the next day
it tried to sync but my playlist did not exist..it even showed the folder in windows
After trying various USB ports and seeing an Apple Icon, and "connect to power low battery"
I even requested a warranty replacement... and apparently you throw out the box they send to cancel. I wish I could be courteous and let them know
    So in short
    PROBLEM;
==IPOD Won't Power on when you press the power button==
(FIRST OF ALL , I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO NOT TRY TO OPEN THE IPOD UP,
you will probably scratch or damage the beautiful iPod .. when it will be perfectly fine 24 hours later...)
    Try:
RESET, and plug in to itunes and restore..
    SOLUTION:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/consumerelectronics/ipodfaq/ipod-troubleshooting-wont-turn-on-appear-hung-sad.html
    Official Apple Documentation:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1383?viewlocale=en_US
I guess my actual story will make you believe that THIS SOLUTION actually works.
    "Let the iPod battery drain
In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:
    1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
    2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it.
I even tried the iPod on 2 computers and it was sort of detecting the serial # in Windows
    but mostly freezing up windows.
    4. " Let iPod's battery drain"
Was the solution for my iPod 3rd generation.
So now that the problem was fixed, I guess iPod is so terrible after all
Just don't drop your iPod get it a nice case
it took from 9pm December 2,2008 to about Dcember 2,2008 6:45pm
roughly 20 hours.. so this morning when I left I pressed the button and it wouldn't turn on
I thought maybe the battery was knocked loose but the battery was just so low or something
To prevent this problem I guess whenever you ipod is low battery, charge it before it gets dangerously low
As sad as it is to wait like 24 hours without your iPod just to pray that the problem is the battery or something and then it will power on..
When it actually does power on you would see the apple Icon
== When it was all said and done==
I didn't really need to use "restore" option, i think itunes resynced what it needed.
And thanks to this I upgraded to Itunes 8 .. which I was too lazy to do before
    ==STILL DOESNT WORK?==
If you bought it less than a year ago... Warranty..
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Enter your Serial# and country and it will be located at the back of your iPod under where it says 8GB or whatever (at least for iPod Nano 3rd generation)
I always like posting solutions, so that someone like me can benefit from it.
It is my understanding that if you do send in your iPod they don't care about the USB cord or headphones that came with it, so you just ship the iPod itself

  • Ipod Nano won't turn on unless plugged in!!!

Please help! My Ipod nano, purchased just 2 years ago, won't turn on unless plugged in to an external power source, and when plugged in the screen has faint lines across the display and blotches at the sides! It was working perfectly fine until my battery went flat one day and all these problems popped up. Whats the problem and what should I do?

    Hello Exasperatin0n,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
It's likely that your Nano's battery is shot and will need to be replaced. So I would start there and then worry about the display issue. You can choose to Apple repair the Nano, a 3rd party repair company (just do a Google search for iPod Repair and you'll get a number of results), or you can even replace the parts yourself.

  • IPod nano won't turn on or be recognized in iTunes or Vista

We recently upgraded to Windows Vista, so I downloaded iTunes 7.2, then plugged in my ipod which was working fine, then it said it had to be updated, but first I needed to update something in windows vista. So I updated Vista and also looked in the help section for ipod and read this:
Microsoft has released an update for Windows Vista that addresses a situation where ejecting iPod from Windows Explorer or by using the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in Windows Vista could corrupt your iPod. Apple recommends Windows Vista customers who own an iPod install this software update. For information on how to install this Microsoft hot fix, refer to the "Update your software" section below. Tip: iPod can always be ejected safely by choosing Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes.
So, I thought that my ipod would get ruined so I did the "eject ipod" from the control menu in itunes, and after that my ipod never turned on again. What happened, did I do something wrong?
I did the 5 R's already and it does not turn on. It is not even in my computer (device manager) and its not even being recognized in itunes. It just disappeared and it won't turn on. Please help!!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Dell   Windows Vista

I'm having a similar problem with my Ipod (40GB, now discontinued) here's my problem:
My hard drive would spin up and then down and then up and then it would turn off. Also I would turn it on and flip to a song, it would be OK and then if I went to flip to another one the screen would freeze on me for a few seconds, then it would work then continue doing that until I got it to turn off. It did that for a few days and then the other day I turned it on and it wouldn't take me to my music screen and it came up with an Ipod that was dead and a link under it. It did this for a while and now I can't get it to work either, I turn it on now and it comes up with a folder and the apple support website and when I tired restarting it, the screen would come up with a check mark and say "Disk Mode" at the top and "OK to disconnect" below the check mark, and now Itunes doesn't recognize it and the hard drive spins and it goes on acting like iTunes sees it when in truth it doesn't.
    Hope someone can help!

  • IPod Nano won't turn on.

Good Morning - My Nano has been inactive for approx 6 weeks (left it in the in-laws house). Anyway I got it back today and I am trying to turn it on to update playlists, charge etc but when I connect it to my PC its not recognised by the PC and also it doesn't appear to be charging. I have tried resetting it without any joy. There is absolutely nothing appearing on screen
I did notice that the apple icon appeared when I first connected it to the PC but nothing since. I have also tried charging it off the mains but still no joy.
    Any ideas??

    Try these.

  • IPod nano won't turn on anymore after frozen update process

Hey, my friend asked me to update his iPod nano 1G Black (1GB) to new firmware. OK, did that.
After the uploading of the new firmware to the iPod, it shows that Black Apple Screen, and a White Loading Bar beneath that Apple logo. But halfaway it froze, so I need to reset it. So the nano resetted, it went out, but NEVER went on anymore!
I've tried all things to solve it, draining battery, resetting, holdswitching, and many other things that I found on forums here. I aint stupid, so "Try switching the HoldSwitch on and off, then try resetting the iPod" wont solve my problem. It stays dead...
Also when I connect it to my PC, it won't show up, no sound of connecting hardware, screen stays black, won't charge, what the **** has happened?
The only thing the iPod can do now is laying on the desk, and when I try to reset it, after six secs I hear a soft click, but it stays dead.
Plz, does anyone knows where I can get support, that nano is around a year old... I can't believe that the battery is broken within a year...
And now my friend thinks that I broke his nano, but all you guys here are having the same problem...
Is there any emailadress where I can contact Apple, instead of placing it here?
Man, I hope somebody can help me...
    Nillus and the dead nano

Yup, I think that's the only way how to solve it.
The nano is still under warranty, my friend bought it in April 2006.
And I know an Apple Store 15 mins from my home
    Thnx for your help everyone!
    @Sakura-chan!
I think that's the best you can do
Take it back to an Apple Store.
