My ipod only holds 200 songs when it should hold 2000

Everytime I try to put all my music from my itunes library onto my ipod, it says there isn't enough free space. I looked at how much free space I have compared to how many songs I have. Only 349 MB has audio, Other takes up 2.54 GB. Does anyone know what the OTHER could possibly be? I didn't put any pictures or anything on my ipod. I'm just really confused and i would really appreciate it if anyone can help me. Thank you!

You can try adding the music manually. This article tells you how:

In manual mode, you'll have to manually eject your iPod.

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:

  • My iPod only plays one song at a time

I don't store any music on my iPod - only music videos. They all play fine, and they're stored as properly tagged music video files under Menu->Videos->Music Videos. After I first synced them from my PC, I noticed that they also all appear under Menu->Music as songs. I can play them all just fine, either by selecting one through Menu->Videos (in which case it plays as a video) or by selecting one though Menu->Music, in which case it plays as a regular song with a little picture displayed instead of the video.
    So far, so good.
The only problem is, I can only play one song at a time. I navigate through the menu, select either a song or a video, and the iPod will play that just fine, get to the end, and then bring up the menu again.
How can I get it to play the one I select, and then just play other random songs? It makes no difference whether or not 'shuffle' is selected, it still only plays one then stops. Also, putting the songs in a playlist doesn't seem to make any difference.
    Any advice gratefully received.

Are you sure you don't have Shuffle on? There are a couple of ways to Shuffle on a 5th Gen. iPod. You can't simply choose Shuffle Songs from the Main Menu and shuffle the entire library...or you can go to Settings > Shuffle and choose Songs or Albums and apply that to any playlist you select. The behavior you describe is what happens when Shuffle is turned on and items are set to Skip When Shuffling (an option found on the tracks under Get Info). If Shuffle is on, you should see the little green crossed arrows in the upper right of the iPod window.

  • Help - My 30 GB Ipod only downloads 342 songs...

I have about 490 in my itunes Library, but everytime I go to update my Ipod it downloads 342 songs and then gets "stuck" on 343 and then starts making a grinding noise and freezes up. So then I have to go through the restore process only for it to happen again....and again....and again....and always gets stuck on song 343. I have tried every possible way to download the songs including manually and even by individual song, switching orders that I upload them, etc. But no matter what, #343 freezes it up.
Suggestions please. Thank you in advance.

Okay, then let's try a reinstall of iTunes.
(Although you may have downloaded iTunesSetup.exe again onto your computer, it's not the same if you didn't remove iTunes+QuickTime off your computer using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility first. So try proceeding onto a full reinstall of iTunes here):
Disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Go to "Add or Remove programs" in Control Panel. Find "iTunes" and "QuickTime" on this list, and remove them both.
Then, download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, to clear out the remaining iTunes and QuickTime installation files off your computer (see this MS document for information on it):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Also, use this article to manually remove the left over files from installation:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
After you've done that, restart your computer.
Then, go to this page to install the iTunes + QuickTime installation pack onto your computer again:
    Download iTunes - 7.1.1.5
Now, restart your computer once more.
After the computer has fully loaded up, open iTunes, and connect your iPod to your computer.
Try automatically syncing it with iTunes again, and see if it works or not.

  • Ipod does not recognize songs when unplugged from computer

My iPod shows all of my library songs when it is connected to the computer, and I am certain the files are physically on the iPod, because it can play songs when connected to iTunes that have been deleted from my hard drive (and I can see the actual files in the hidden iPod control folder), but when I unplug the iPod, i have no songs. I tried to reformat, but when the ipod formats, it never finishes, it just says 'waiting for iPod'. Using Windows XP, SP2.

I just fixed a similar problem with my iPod.
I didn't have any problems with my restore but I still couldn't see any songs on my iPod. ( Yes, I'm updated to the current firmware and 4.9 iTunes. )
The solution for me was to assign a letter drive to the iPod file system when it mounted ( i.e. not to let Windows pick one randomly ). If you have mapped network drives, you should consider doing likewise.
Check this out for more details:
Strange iPod behaviour when Windows confuses iPod with network drive
This article was suggested by James Bond 007 in a post entitled "Ipod v 2.3 vs. 2.2 problem with Updater 2005 -06-26".
You can tell it's got the letter drives confused because it creates an iPod_Control under one of your network drives and starts filling it up instead of your actual iPod ( hence no music when you disconnect ).

  • Ipod mini stops playing songs when it hasnt been updated

after a little while off the charger my ipod mini will not play my purchased songs. is there something wrong with it? do i need to get it fixed?

hey yea my ipod mini does the same thing i dont kno
    what to do either!
    Did you see my post?
    Also, try these...
Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer...
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?
    If they still won't work...
Deauthorize the computer. (Go to advanced-->deauthorize computer in iTunes)
Create a new user in the system. (Start-->control panel-->user accounts-->create a new account)
Download the free song of the week in the new user account. (First, log out of the current user and log in to the new user account. Then open iTunes and download the free song)
Play the song in that username to authorize it.
Restore the iPod in the New User account, sync just the Free song of the Week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it plays fine on the iPod when syncing with this user name (after you followed the above instructions), it would indicate a bad iTunes Library File. Post back for instructions on how to fix that.
Now, if it still won't work (you followed the above instructions with the new user account) and the iPod still won't play the songs, then post back.

  • My new ipod only lasts 2 hrs. when connected to my docking station ?

My new 7th. generation ipod only plays for 2 hrs. when docked to my docking station. Will Apple bring out a new docking station to overcome this as I only ever play tunes using the dock.

What is the make and model of your docking station? Shouldn't it be charging the iPod?  How is it connected? With the appropriate dock connector and lightning to 30 pin connector or via a line-in port?

  • Why does my ipod touch stop playing songs when i click to play, it plays for a few seconds sometimes longer and then goes onto the next song. Help!

Please help,my ipod touch stops playing songs sometimes a few seconds in and then other times halfway. It cant be the song because different songs do it each time. Ive tried to restore it and it makes no difference :(
Please help as this problem gets very annoying. Thanks!

Did you restore to factory defaults/new iPod and sync stuff to your iPod?  If you restore from backup there may be some corruption that is now in the backup.

  • Ipod only syncing first song off most selected to sync albums

My ipod touch fourth generation is only syncing the first song off most of the albums I've selected to sync. A few completely random albums appear in full. I have tried a few approaches thinking maybe the problem had to do with itunes not knowing it's target folder. I deleted all my songs, kept the files, then reloaded all the songs in. This did nothing. Itunes will play the albums in their entirety on my computer, so the files work and are there. And also, when I'm syncing, I can see that the songs are set to eventually sync within the ipod, the tracks appear but they are greyed out. For some reason they just never sync.
I tried manually selecting albums, as opposed to artists, to sync and that didn't work either. On top of this, I have a smart playlist set to sync as well, and still the first song problem persists.
Needless to say, this is frustrating as ****. Any help would be much appreciated

It took me over a week, and multiple calls to Apple Care, and three Genious Bar appointments, and a replaced iPod to find a workaround for this odd problem.  What I finally found to work is set it to manual managment of music, and delete everything.  Then, add your songs in small bunches.  I have put upwards of 750 on at once and it still worked properly.
As for the source of the problem, it is still anyone's guess.
I hope this works for you too.  I wonder if it has something to do with a large music library.

  • Ipod only plays, or functions when plugged in

I have a 30gb ipod first i thought my battery was dead, now it turns out that it will only charge with a wall charger(direct)not the one that you can use the usb cable with, and it will only play, or function for that matter when its plugged in. As soon as you unplug the charger or ipod it stops, and soon as you put it back on the charger you can use the menus and the music will play.Help!!

Well, I now believe that the battery is shot.
I'm suspecting that your charger uses the 12V Firewire pins instead of the 5V USB pins. That would be enough to overpower a dead battery and allow the unit to operate but, of course, because the battery is shot, the iPod quits when you disconnect the charger. The USB chargers use 5V and that isn't enough to overpower a completely destroyed battery.
I could be wrong but that's the only logical explanation that I can think of.

  • Ipod only updated SOME songs...

I listened to about 70 songs, and my Ipod updated something like half of them in Itunes. Why would this be?

Do you have any songs in your library unchecked? The iPod has an option which you'll find in the Summary tab that when set means that it doesn't update unchecked songs: iTunes: Understanding the Symbols Next to Songs

  • (Help)Ipod slow at loading songs when playing.

Hi Sorry if this has been answered already but I have a 20gb Ipod. Latly I've notice that when I use it sometimes it takes a lot longer for a song to load once I switch from one to the next. Wait time can be anywhere from 30seconds to a min. Anyone have this same problem or know anyway to fix it? Thank you in advance for all your help.
    Alex from Southeren California
PS. Also this is when I am playing songs on my Ipod in my car with the FM Adaptor or when I'm just playing songs and listening through the headphones. Thanks agian.
