My iPod randomly dies, sometimes it lasts an hour sometimes it lasts 5 minutes on a full charge. Is it time to replace the battery or is something else wrong?

I have a 6th gen 160gb iPod that is almost 2 years old and just about 2 weeks ago i've been getting this problem. I've tried restoring it multiple times and have researched a little and im going on a limb to say my battery is shot. The iPod always shows a correct charge level but it just dies and it won't come back on until I plug it in to my computer or a dock. A few things I have randomly seen it do, when connected to my laptop it will go to the connect to power screen and stay there for awhile and once the display had a really messed up display (like a mixture of the normal display with the black and white lines you would see on an old TV with no signal.)

Another thingthat I noticed, when I charge it with headphones plugged in it seems to be fine and won't die for hours but if I plug in say some speakers, it will almost always die in like 5 minutes. So can it be something to do with the headphone jack or voltage change maybe?

  • When do i know it is the right time to replace the battery on my ipod?

i do not know if my ipod ever had the ability to deliver 16 hours of playback as the system spec claimed, but right now after more than a year's use and almost always leaving on the charger when i am home, i can get about 10 hours continous playback at best.
i am pretty sure that my battery is in the decline phase of its life cycle. when i am transferring pics with my camera connector, it would go way down to the red, then kick back to green once my camera connector is off. in addition, if i leave it off the charger, it would eat up its battery capacity up sooner than i would have guessed.
my question is really two phase:
1)when do you people usually replace your battery.
2)with the ipod photo feeling like brick, should i even bother? perhaps a new ipod video would be the way to go?
any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

The reason your iPod's battery is only lasting 10 hours could very well be that your iPod's battery is going. They say that an iPod's battery can undergo 500 charge cycles or charging the battery fully 500 times. I don't know how old your iPod is, but I have a 4G iPod, and I get about 5-6 hours out of a proposed 12. you can try the iPod battery test here:

  • Replacing the battery in 20GB & 4Gb clickwheel ipods

Can you replace the battery in a 20GB iPod with clickwheel (M9282LL) and a 4GB iPod Mini with clickwheel?
20GB iPod is running OS version 3.1.1. Not sure what the Mini is running, but believe it is the same as they were purchased at the same time.
Both no longer hold charges for very long. They do charge and play, but the battery quickly dies.
    Thank you.

    I recommend a battery by iPodjuice.com.
Their batteries are cheap, last longer than the original battery did when it was new, come with tools and detailed instructions, as well as videos on their website, and have 10 year warranties against the battery.

My iPad wont charge when plugged into a computer, the battery isn't lasting long, and its getting hot when charging

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • HT201263 When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong

When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes. Try placing in Recovery mode if necessary to restore.
    - If you can't turn the iPod completely off, let the batter fully drain. After charging for at lerast anhour try again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPOD Touch battery life is too short. Can I replace the battery?

My son's IPOD Touch has a battery life of about 30 minutes.  It is a refurbished model and wondered if there was a way to upgrade the battery?

  • I replaced the battery in my iPod 3G, but it still won't hold a charge. Can this be fixed?

My ipod suffered some water damage early this year, leaving the device itself working fine, but making it so that the battery drained itself within a day after each charge, whether it was used or not.
I therefore assumed the battery was the problem, so I replaced the battery, restored the iPod, and recharged it.  Unfortunately, the problem has continued.  Since the battery got replaced, I imagine the battery itself is fine.  What else could be causing the problem, and how can I get it fixed?

most likely the mainboard and 30 pin connector took some damage and wont connect properly you just might need to replace the mainboard and everything will be fine. (P.S.you should cheak for other damage aswell)
    hope it works out :3

Usually when someone mentions "passowrd" in a posting it will not be related to an Adobe product but to the machine that you are trying to implement some installation or update for.  If you explain more about what you are trying to do and describe what you encounter it might be easier to determine what you are dealing with... include a screenshot to help explain as well if you can.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

May try DIY due to cost
Just wondering if anyone's had this fixed how much it costs
Or if it's another problem before I order parts

I have found the solution for myself for the above.  I use a specific scripting program which is accessed by Control A. To pause it, you need to use Control B. not sure if this would work for any other application but it resolves my dilemma after hours of trying!

  • I already replaced the battery in my iPod nano, can I still get the replacement?

I applied for the replacement of my iPod nano, 1st gen. I replaced the battery myself a couple of years ago. Can I still get the replacement? I'm still waiting for my box to send the nano back in but don't want to send it if it's just going to get rejected. Is it possible I could even get charged for evaluation if I send it in?
    Thanks,
    Mike

The recall is due to the original batteries being faulty
If you replaced the battery yourself, then you don't have a faulty battery anymore so why bother sending it back?

I have an iPod touch 4th Generation that needs battery replacement after 2 years of use. Can I go to an Apple Store in my area to get my battery replaced? I brought the iPod in another store. Do I need a proof-of-purchase or it is too late due to the way past of Apple's warranty or I can't due to not officially not purchasing the iPod touch at the Apple Store? I welcome your feedback. Thank you!
