My iPod's keyboard/screen is messed up. I need help!

Last month (Jan 4th 2013) I bought an iPod touch 5, it worked fine for the first week but then my keyboard/screen started acting weird. like I would tap on a letter but instead my keyboard taps enter or a number, or I would scroll down but instead my iPod opens an app, stuff like that. Its messed up. First I turned off my iPod (by holding down the sleep button..etc) but it didn't work, so I reset my iPod as a new device that way if it was something related to an app it would be deleted, this worked for 3-4 days but it went back after that. I don't know what's wrong with my iPod I really need help!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
      loads select your language and click on the Continue
      button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
      Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
      mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
      of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
      the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
      info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
      the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
      from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
      Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
      partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
      the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

New ipod passcode locked out. tried other steps still need help please

Hi passcode locked out of daughters new ipod. we backed up on computer this morning or rather it automatically backed up when plugged into itunes as directed from other posts i was reading. Then I tried to restore but it said I needed to turn off "find my ipod" which I cant because I need the passcode to get to settings. I then tried the home button power off but when i get to itunes restore ipod it tells me I need passcode. pleae help what step am I missing? go s l o w l y please I am new to mac after 20 years on pc and need help in steps that are not intuitive to me.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Ipod touch (2G) stuck in "restore" mode. Need HELP please

I have contacted Apple support several times since Friday and was just hung up on by an extremely rude lady in customer support. I am really frustrated and just trying to get my 5 yr old little boys ipod touch working again.
The situation is that our son's old computer crashed. So we have a newer computer set up for him. Reinstalled itunes on it. Called Apple on Friday, really nice rep gave me several instructions for transfering purchases, making sure everything was up to date and turning home sharing on. Did all that, got off the phone with him and then the computer tells me that the ipod needs and update.
Clicked ok, and update starts going for a few minutes.....then get an error message that says that the ipod is basically stuck in "restore" mode and needs to be reset to factory settings. It won't let me do anything to the ipod. It won't restore, reset, anything. Just shows a picture of usb cable and says to connect to itunes.
Connect to itunes and it keeps giving me say error message.
Will someone please help me? Apple support sure won't.

Did you try to connect in recovery mode, to start the restore process again? Connecting in Recovery mode is explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Also delete the ipod ipsw firmware file on your computer, to make iTunes download a new copy to restore from. Depending on your OS, this file can be found here:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
Vista and 7: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

IPhone 5 screen wont turn on. (Need help or info, please and thank you.)

So i got an Iphone 5, and i accedently droped it in the sink. i took it out, whipped it off, i put it in my pocket and left it alone.
the next day the screen was not working, moments later, it(Iphon5) turned off. tried turnng it back on but it wouldnt work.
so, again i left it. everything still works, its just that the screen wont turn on, i could still play music snapshot stuff,
but my screen wont tun on.
I NEED HELP.

I don't beleive this is a known problem and you should probably bring your phone to a local Genius Bar (make an appointment here) as this is likely a hardware issue (a problem with your phone realizing that you removed it from your ear).
If you're willing to tinker with it a bit, you can determine if this is a software issue by backing up your iPhone (separately ensure your photos, videos and music is backed up) and then "Restore" your phone. If the restoration solves the problem, you're dealing with a software issue. If the problem still exists, you're almost definitely dealing with a hardware issue.

Kids messed up emac need help

on a friend of mine's computer needs help but most things require admin passwords and the kids forgot it!
Couple of things they have applications outside the apps folder. Also the named the hard drive mac* with the asterisk; they like to put funny characters like that where they shouldn't.
The computer has slowed to a crawl. It starts up, etc, but the spinning ball occurs almost continually.
Is there any way to reset the admin password from one of the other users?

If one of the other users has administrator privileges, yes. If not, no, nor could you enable the Root user without admin privileges. You'll have to boot from the Mac OS X installation CD and reset the password there:

Once the password is reset, suggest to your friend that he set up restricted accounts for his kids to use. Letting kids use an account with administrator privileges is a recipe for disaster.
It may be that with all the various possible things the kids could have messed up, your friend's best resort may be to back up any important files (if that's possible), erase the disk and start afresh, restoring the OS and all the apps and then securing the system against prying fingers.

Ipod camera black screen when opened and sync prob HELP!!!

hello i just went to open the camera on my ipod touch 4g and it just went black just a black screen when i press the home button it goes straight to the home screen everything else is fine i just open the camera and a black screen appears, it is working fine now but just wondering if it is faulty or somthing.
some times it does not sync i will plug it into the computes usb port and it wont charge i takes about 3 to 6 tries to get it to work any help thanks

Same thing just happened to me, found another solution though.
Plug the USB cable into your PC/base of iPod Touch.
Turn off the iPod completely.
Wait 10 seconds and re-power the iPod.
Now load up the camera; and the screen should be back to normal.
I have similar screen freeze issue with my Sony Erricson K700i Mobile phone, and plugging in the 'power' cable always resolves it, so it would seem to be of the same method used to resolve this iPod issue!!
Strange thing as you've posted, all other apps etc still work. Maybe support will get around to resolving this bug!!

Ipod nano lock screen wont go away...HELP

I set a lock my my new ipod nano and i know the code for sure...but when i do the code it doesn't help..it just stays on the lock screen...what do i do!!!

Have you tried hitting the center key?
Also, as soon as you attach it to your computer, the code will go away.

My iPod Touch's screen has turned pale blue. Help?

My iPod Touch is still newly brought, just a few days old and whilst I was trying to charge it, the screen went to a pale blue. I tried switched it off with the "Wake/Sleep" and home button pressed together at the same time and took out the charger. After 10 seconds, it turns on with the apple logo but then, after a few seconds/minutes it turns back to pale blue. I'm going around in circles and my battery is on low charge.

It seem's that this a major problem and my best advice would be to create a meeting at your local Apple Store's Genius Bar. If you're not sure how to do this, ask me!

IPod on iPad is a Mess and Something needs to be done about it

For those of us who have never had an iPod, our parallel experience on our laptops and desktops has been with the iTunes app: it gives us access to our onboard MEDIA (music, movies, videos, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, RADIO, and, access to the iTunes Store for the purchase of more MEDIA to be enjoyed through the same iTunes app; i.e., everything located in one convenient place.
Enter the iPad. For some weird, mindbogglingly strange, and inconsistent reasons, Apple designers have chosen to pull the iTunes Store out of the iTunes app and call it just iTunes ... not iTunes Store ... just iTunes. Further, to the remaining portion of the traditional iTunes they've given the name iPod. Then inexplicably, they removed the popular Radio functionality. How incredibly stupid is all that?
It gets worse. Within the iPod app on the iPad EVERYTHING is considered a SONG: movies, videos, TV shows, lectures, and songs ... they're all called songs. Such idiocy. What I'd like to see: OK, keep the iTunes store as a separate app BUT CALL IT iTunes Store. Then rename the iPod app back to the more consistent name iTunes AND ADD BACK IN THE RADIO FUNCTIONALITY that was taken out. [OR I could live with iPod Store app and iPod app, since that would also be consistent (as long as the Radio functionality is put back in)]. And instead of calling all the various media SONGS, call them SELECTIONS, as in "Add Selections", or "Add New Selections", or "Add More Selections" ... anything but that ridiculously inappropriate word SONGS.
As long as I'm griping, let me relate a horror story I had recently with the iPod app on an iPad and some movie rentals that I purchased. In preparation for a cross-country trip and the possibility of spending long hours waiting in airports, I decided to rent six movies, download them onto the iPad, and then watch them to while away time if needed. So a couple of evenings before the trip I started to rent recent HD movies that I had not yet seen. After each download was completed each movie appeared as a song within the Library called Purchased, within the iPod app. All went well until the 6th rental movie was downloaded; it was added as a new song BUT THEN THE PREVIOUSLY DOWNLOADED FIVE MOVIES SIMPLY DISAPPEARED FROM THE list of Songs.
What!? Had 5 movies been erased before I had a chance to view them? I connected the iPad to the laptop and discovered that the media bar showed about 23-Gb for movies, so that meant that all six were still on the iPad somewhere. I also used the Pad Info app on the iPad to see how much Disk Memory was being used; again the Free Disk Space was down about 23-Gb. So they were all on there somewhere, but how could I gain access to the missing five in order to view them since they were no longer listed as songs. In poking around the iPod app looking for the missing five I inadvertently started the 6th movie which meant that I suddenly had to watch it within 24 hours [instead of having a 30-day viewability window]. I touched the 6th movie's name in the Song list thinking I would be able to pull up some info on the 6th movie; instead, the movie started playing. So I immediately stopped it knowing I'd have to watch the rest of it soon.
I was furious that the 6th movie started. I wanted to try to replicate the actions that inadvertently started it. So I went back to the iTunes Store (called iTunes) and found a FREE TV SHOW sample to download. It appeared as a new Song along with the 6th movie in the Song list. When I touched the free TV show it immediately started playing. So I learned the hard way that any movies or TV shows (or probably any other media) within the Song list immediately start playing when touched. Apparently one just needs to learn this. There's only partial turning back once that happens because one can then touch the playing movie or TV show to bring up the standard controls and then Pause/Stop the movie or TV show. Interestingly, if one does this, the word Done also appears in the upper left corner. Touching Done brings one to an info page for that TV or movie just Paused. From this page one can either continue to play the movie or TV show (a Play arrow is provided in upper right corner), or touch the button called TV Shows that now appears in the upper left corner. Touching the TV Shows button brings one to a new and entirely black page that displays the TV show in question as a large photo-icon (ostensibly along with any other TV Shows that one has stored on the iPad).
THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING PAGE: There's NO way to get to the black page from the main iPod home page. Nor is there a way to get back to the main iPod home page from this black page. It becomes either a dead end, or a route back to watching a selection from those displayed as photo-icons. This black page has one other interesting feature: it has two tabs at top center: one labeled TV Shows and the other labeled Rentals. Hello? Pressing Rentals suddenly revealed my 5 missing movies along with the 6th; all as photo-icons. Touching the photo-icon for the 6th movie (since it was already contaminated) brought me to the info page for that movie. And from there I had the choice of either playing the movie or returning back to the black page of movie photo-icons ... a closed loop.
At this point it was necessary to quit the iPod app using the iPad's Home button in order to be able to restart the iPod app in order to get back to the main iPod home page on another day, to continue watching the rented movies. IS THIS INSPIRED SOFTWARE DESIGN OR WHAT? When so much else on the iPad was done so well, one has to wonder about this bit of awkwardness ...

Dead screen, transfering documents via firewire - need help

So I've got a 1 Ghz iMac (floating pivot screen.) - my primary mission critical workstation. My screen died today. Grrrr.
No time to muck about, I went out and purchased a mac mini (1.5 Ghz single intel core), I want to transfer all data from the old box to the new asap.
The migration assistant that appears at first boot up is cool, and I was able to move all applications. (handy!)
Problem is that I couldn't move all my user documents because the old Mac's drive is 80 gig and the new is only 60. So I figured I would just drag and drop as much as I can manually.
I've gone and reattached the old mac to the new via firewire and booted up the old box as an external drive. Problem is, when I open up the user folder on the old hard drive I'm not seeing any files.... ie. all folders including the old desktop folder are empty....its like the files are hidden or something.
Help please.

could it be because under ownership and permissions I have no access to these folders? Is that why the folders "appear" empty? - then my next question would be, how can I give myself access to them?
Remembering that I am unable to boot up and use the old iMac (except in external drive mode) since the screen (or video card???) is dead.
Also - I'm attempting spotlight searches from the new mac on the old mac's HD for known files on the old mac's desktop and its coming back with nothing...
What a mess ....maybe

Blank screen.....need help!!

I just got a mini, and the screen is blank. I think its on because it clicks when I turn the wheel. I've reset it 3 times, charged it for 10 hours and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

i am having the exact same issue with my ipod.
it is SO very frustrating...especially because
apple has now replaced my ipod 3 times because it
has been defective and each time i have to send it back.
only now, my warranty has expired and they want me to
pay them to fix it. i can't believe them!!! i have absolutely no confidence that they can nor will repair it.

My Ipod Touch's brightness isnt working properly I NEED HELP PLEASE

I turned my ipod touch on today and I could only just see the screen display i tried adjusting the brightness but it doesn't seem to work. I have tried doing some of the things Apple have told me to do
e.g.. Restore, Restart etc.

If you have gone as far as restoring the iPod Touch, Restarting, Rebooting all as you have said.
The next option will be to see hardware warranty support. If you are still within your hardware warranty you have a couple options
1. Make an appointment at local apple retail store and they can assist
2. Contact iPod Touch Support and they can assist with hardware support options covered under your manufacture warranty.
