  • Ipod shuffle just shuts off

my ipod shuffle just shuts down after about 20 secs.
it has a full battery and latest software.

    SORTED!!
After looking at other comments on here the problem was my earphones!
I was using my iphone earphones (slightly different type jack) and for some reason this was causing the shuffle to shut off after around15secs.
I’m assuming because of the slightly different jack type connection the shuffle didn’t recognise there was earphones in (even thoughthey worked) and went to sleep thinking it was just playing without earphones.
Was frustrating at the time and found this place very useful!!!
    Thanks

  • IPod Shuffle just suddenly dies

I was listening to my 2nd gen. shuffle then all of a sudden there was a loud popping sound and it wouldn't turn back on again. I tried pressing play/pause, track buttons as well as turning it off and on again. The lights don't even turn on when I press buttons. Has my shuffle just died? What should I do?

IF it's less than a year old take it back to an Apple Store to be replaced.
IF older, try the Reset Utility... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238

  • IPod shuffle just flashes a red light and won't charge

Hello, I have an ipod shuffle 4th generation. It was a gift from my mom seven months ago, it was working fine until yesterday. It won't chanrge, I have tried with another charger, tried on all the usb port of my computer and the wall outlet and nothing I used it a lot to work since I ride my bike to it. When I connect it, it just flashes a solid red light for 3-5 seconds and that's it.
Can you please help me? I really love my ipod and honestly need the music for my ride to work and since I work in a call center I use there to since I am chat. Thak you in advance, cheers from Panama

If you tried a wall charger (that previously worked with your shuffle) and computer ports, the most likely cause is a problem on the iPod.  At seven months, it may not be the battery (although it sounds like you use it a lot every day), but it sounds like the battery is unable to charge.
Does the iPod still appear in iTunes when you connect it?  If it does, you can try doing a Restore using iTunes.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
If the wall charger is something you did not previously try, it's possible that the computer's USB port is not supplying enough power.  As a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices (including any hubs).  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter so that it's not running on battery power.  Put the shuffle power switch in the OFF position.  Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.
At seven months, it is still under warranty.

  • Old ipod shuffle, just doesn't work, is there anything I can do to get it to work?

I have a really old ipod shuffle, like the first one they came out with and I was wondering if there is a way to get it to work. It stopped working a while ago and my son wants one so I thought this would be a great first one for him. If I can get it to work! Please help me!!!

Either way, at best it's likely that the battery is shot and in need or replacement. Sorry.

    Hello Tolhurst,
We have an iPod Touch assistant that should be helpful in getting your iPod Touch working again.

If you continue to have trouble getting the iPod Touch working again, I'd recommend putting the device into recovery mode and attempting a restore that way.

  • My ipod nano just died!!!!

It won't turn on. I never dropped it, nor have I abused it. I can't believe this nonsense. I took extra measures to keep it scratchfree by leaving the plastic on, and now the whole thing is ruined. I ordered it from apple.com, what can I do?

Breathe. Things sound OK. The "Do not disconnect" means either the Nano is being updated or is recharging. Simply eject it from within iTunes and your Nano interface should return and continue recharging. If you turn it off it should enter a dedicated recharging mode with a Big battery icon.

Sorry to hear that. Did it by any chance get moisture on it?
i have plugged into 3 different computers including my mac.
What did/does Apple System Profiler say about it in teh USB tree when plugged in?
I just called Apple. They are sending me a new one. He said its a "software issue" when I read him my serial #. wow.
THAT's interesting. Would you share with us the serial number so that others might be able to address this issue with Apple support? I'm a bit skeptical about it being an unaddressed "software" issue, especially since it would seem cheaper to be fixed with a firmware update than incurring the costs of replacing affected shuffles...
coincidentally I went to walmart this morning and asked him if they knew of any issues. he said, the shuffle is nothing but problems but the nano is very solid. thats a total bummer as I really like the shuffle for my purposes (elite triathlete) and training.

  • IPod Shuffle (Or any for that matter) on Windows Vista

I have just got a new laptop with Vista pre loaded on it, I have been having trouble installing just about everything on it due to the fact that no drivers seem to exist or work? But I have recently tried to use my iPod and that does not seem to work either, windows cannot find the driver on the computer, driver disc or internet.
Has anyone managed to get their iPod Shuffle (or any as as soon as I get mine to work i'll have to fix my fiancee's) to work, and if so how did they do it?
Please reply if you have the same problem and have not sorted it yet so I know that other people are struggling too and I am not doing anything stupid.
    Cheers
    Darren

I have managed to get this working myself, you just plug the iPod in, let the auto detection run and detect then not find the driver for it. Click the locate the driver yourself button, choose the root of the drive you OS is on and after a while it locates it and installs it, you have to repeat the step 4 times for differeing things from a mass media storage device through the apple iPod and to a couple of unknown devices but eventually it finishes and itunes seems to reconise it.

  • IPod shuffle cannot be updated. cannot read/write

    Hi there,
I recently reformatted my Windows XP machine and am now having problems connecting my iPod shuffle again. After installing iTunes 5 and re-associating my iPod shuffle with this computer (that all worked fine), I am now having problems adding songs to the iPod.
When I drag a song onto the iPod, I receive the error: 'The iPod "shuffle" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to.'
I tried restoring the iPod shuffle with the 9-06-2005 update and that worked fine. My iPod has already been updated to the latest software. I also tried uninstalling iTunes 5 and re-installing after a couple reboots. Then I tried removing the entries in the Device manager for the iPod (both "Disk Drives > Apple iPod USB Device" and "USB Controllers > USB Mass Storage Device"). When I reconnected the iPod, Windows recognized the device and reinstalled the drivers but I'm still having the same issue. Additionally, I've tried every one of my USB ports to no avail.
If I try to enable the shuffle for disk use in iTunes, I also get the same issue. I'm not sure what else to try. The computer and iTunes seems to recognize the iPod shuffle just fine; just reading or writing to the shuffle is a problem. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Isaac

Well, I reformatted the drive (FAT32) and then did a Restore using the latest update (9-23-05, even though today is 9-22-05). iTunes saw the shuffle as a new shuffle and let me name it and then it started to auto-fill the drive. While trying to copy the first song, it says: "The iPod 'Shuffle' cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I tried the iPod shuffle on two other computers and on both of them it works fine. So, I thought it was my primary computer that has the problem. I bought a new USB card, and tried updating the USB drivers again. But, I have the same problem regardless of using the motherboard's USB ports or my new USB card's ports. sigh
    Any other ideas?
    Isaac

  • ITunes Won't Recognize iPod Shuffle with Multiple Users

I'm having trouble getting iTunes in my user account to recognize my 10 year old's iPod shuffle.
Here's the problem. I share my laptop (running Windows XP home) with my 10 year old son. I have a 2nd generation iPod and I have iTunes set to sync automatically with my iPod. That works fine.
Meanwhile, I just got an iPod shuffle for my son. He has his own user account on my computer, and when we log off my account, then sign in to his account and launch iTunes, iTunes recognizes his iPod shuffle just fine and is able to put music on it.
But sometimes I want to put a few of the songs from my library on his iPod shuffle.
The problem is, when I log off his account and switch to mine, then attach his iPod shuffle to the USB port, I first get a message which asks me if I want to link his iPod shuffle to my library and replace all the songs with songs from my library. When I click "No" the iPod shuffle does not show up in the source list (and, I have noticed, it also disappears from "My Computer" after I click "No" in that dialogue box).
Is there any way around this problem? Any way I can get the iPod shuffle to show up in the Source list when I am logged into my account?
    thanks
    PD

Hi, thanks very much for your note, but I don't believe that document solves my problem.
My problem is not that I cannot set up separate libraries on one computer -- I have been able to do that successfully.
My problem is that I cannot get MY library to recognize my son's iPod. As I stated, each time I connect his iPod shuffle, I get a dialogue box asking if I want to link his iPod shuffle to my library. When I click "No" the iPod shuffle is not recognized, and also disappears from "My Computer".
Is that how it should be working normally? (I have always been able to connect different iPods to my library. But perhaps this is how the iPod shuffle works -- it can only be recognized by one library?)
