My Ipod Shuffle used to appear, now it doesn't?

I have a laptop, with Windows XP. I downloaded ITunes 7.1.1.5 and installed it on my laptop. Now when I attached my ipod shuffle the first couple of times it would pop up on the side tool bar, now when I load itunes, it doesn't pop up. I tried changing USB ports on my laptop. I tried restarting my computer. I tried flipping the power switch on and off. I even tried un-installing itunes and re-installing it. Still, nothing. I have some new songs I wanna add to my ipod. I turned it on and plugged my head phones into the shuffle, all the songs play fine. I just don't know what happened. Please, someone help.

Anyway you'll probably first wanna try doing the 5Rs ( http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/ ). This probably won't help much though since it is not showing up at all in iTunes. If it also is not appear in My Computer than it might have some serious hardware problems.
What you should do if the 5Rs don't work is try to restore your iPod using the iPod reset utility ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303979 ) This should restore your iPod to factory condition.
If this doesn't work, try enabling hidden folders through the folders icon in control panel. Then access your ipod through my computer, and delete the folders there. Reset,and try connecting again.

It has the error range of 3000's which states

If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes.

You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.

I have an Alpine radio with an iPod dock adapter to let me control my iPod through my head unit. This had worked great with my Nano, but I heard that these adapters didn't work well with the iPhones. Mostly due to interference / feedback from the phone being heard through the speakers.
However, I was suprised at the compatiblity mine had with the iPhone, especially being that it is a couple years old (the apadpter). When you plug the iPhone in it says that the device may not be compatible with the iPhone and that you should put the phone in "airplane mode." I just kept my nano plugged in as I thought that I didn't want the equivalent of turning my phone OFF when driving, so one day I tapped NO. Well, to my suprise, I did not hear any feedback or interference through my stereo. And, In fact, While I was driving, I received a call and the music stopped and the phone rang!
So, your mileage may vary on whichever brand adapter you use, but I have found that it works just fine for me. Hope this helps.

If you manually manage music... on iTunes 11, go to the top left corner and there will be a pull down bar. Click "show menu bar". From there, go to view, then show sidebar. Tried calling Apple to have them walk me through it and they said they wouldn't help me since I don't have Apple Care. Whatever. Hope this helps!!

Restoring iPod Shuffle using windows vista if the device is not showing on itunes?

Hello fellow iPod users
I had this problem in the past, using different computers. Whenever I change the computer, this happens with my iPod... and the solution is always to restore it to factory default.
Currently my iPod shuffle first generation is showing on Windows (Computer), but not on iTunes. I am operating. I tried all the procedures on the support website (re installed itunes, quicktime and all other apple software, changed security software, plugged and unplugged the iPod, reinstalled the usb ports)... after I tried extra procedings such as restoring system and changing to another computer, but the problem seems to continue. When I turn on iPod, it flashes the green and yellow light.
When I plug another iPod on the computer, on the same USB port, iTunes recognizes it and it works perfectly.
So the problem seems to be the same that I had in the past, exactly the same.
My question then is this:
I try to use the restore utilty provided on apple website, but it is not compatible with Windows Vista nor 7. The option given by Apple is to use iTunes to restore the device, but hey, it doesn´t show on the device list, so how can I restore it if it doesn´t show???
I already had this exact same problem and the solution was always the same, but this time I don´t have an Windows XP computer available...
I also had iTunes run a device connectivity diagnosis and it reported all positive results, including: iPod found and USB ports checked.

I need help restarting my ipod shuffle using windows vista.

When plugging my ipod shuffle 2nd gen into my computer it cannot be recognized. Itunes tells me to download the rest utility which of course only works with windows xp or 2000 and i am running windows vista and know no one who still runs windows xp or 2000. Im no where near an ipod store and itunes customer service 1800 number has been useless. Please help all i want to do is go running but i cant do that without my music!

We recommend using the latest version of iTunes to restore iPod because this will address the file system issue and will also defragment the iPod drive. Although you can use the Chkdsk utility to fix file system errors on the drive mapped to iPod, Chkdsk will not defragment the drive.
Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
Tip: Make sure you always eject iPod properly and that you wait for the orange light to stop blinking before disconnecting iPod shuffle. Read Understanding iPod shuffle status lights to learn more about iPod shuffle status lights.
This issue may be more likely to occur on iPod shuffle if iPod shuffle's file system has become heavily fragmented. A restore will eliminate fragmentation. Chkdsk will not.

hi i have an ipod shuffle 1 gig and i have an odd problem..
i subscribe to some talk podcasts and i download streamlink mp3's of other talk programs and i have an odd problem when i add them to my shuffle.
when i have the order set as the mp3 that i downloaded to play first and the podcasts to play last.. for some reason, every time i try to play the podcasts somehow skip the # order i set when putting the files in.
I've tried the 5 r's once already i suppose i probly did something wrong and will try it again but does anyone have any ideas what i can do to fix this problem?
I have the latest itunes and i think i have the latest shuffle bios. I just can't figue out why it's doing this.. doesn't matter what podcast or mp3's are put in from my file list in itunes, thought that could help too.. thanks in advance.

IF you're using Windows, TWO iPods connected SIMULTANEOUSLY is a BAD idea. Otherwise a Shuffle will play nice with another iPod...
