You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased tracks has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

  • HT1725 When I download a song from iTunes into my library, it often says it has downloaded, charges me for it, and on the song in my library shows the full playing time. However, when I play the song, at around halfway through it skips to the next song?

When I download a song from iTunes into my library, it often says it has downloaded, charges me for it, and on the song in my library shows the full playing time. However, when I play the song, at around halfway through it skips to the next song?
    i'm just wondering:
    a) why it does this
and b) how to stop it doing this, because it still charges me for the song :/

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Loaded itunes on a new computer, and synced ipad.  Now only those few songs I had on the ipad are in my library.  But all of my ipods (3) have my full music library.  How do i get all my songs moved back into my library from one of my ipods?

I installed itunes on a new laptop, with Windows 8, and synced my ipad.  Now my music library has only those few songs I had synced to the ipad, or roughly a quarter of my original library.  My ipods (all three) still have the full library, but everytime I try to sync them, I am asked if I want to delete all of the contents and replace with the (much smaller) itunes library.  Of course I don't, but how do I "reverse sync" and replace all the music contents of my library with the contents from one of my ipods?

  • My downloaded music wont go into my library!

i bought it all, but when i try to download it, it wont go to my library! it just... disappears! im not using my original computer i started my ipod with, could that be a problem?

I am having hte exact sami issue... I really just noticed it now. I rebuilt my computer recently and a hand full of downloads will not play. I purchased some of them and others are converted from my personal CD collection. It looks like all my "early" downloads and all the downloads since the rebuild work fine???
The files are visable, they won't add to the library, even when specifically attempted too by file. The format shows Itunes and a double click on the file opens Itunes but nothing plays and no song info is displayed.

  • Ipod won't load into "My Library," HELP!

I was using two Ipods. One was loading music into My Library and the other was loading into a file called "Mark's IPOD." I gave the one of the Ipods away - the one that loaded into the library and deleted the songs out of the library. Now I want my remaining Ipod to download into the library when I hook it up to the computer, but it continues to open a separate file: Mark's Ipod.
I've uninstalled the ipod software and itunes software and reinstalled it, and deleted the files in "My Music," however the problem is still unresolved. Do I need to find a backup file and get rid of that?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hey,
did you already checked your past purchases? You can try to locate the missing music using the past purchase menu in iTunes Store.
The missing songs should be visible with the cloud symbol. Just click on the cloud and download the songs.
If the music isn't displayed here, maybe it is hidden. You can unhide your purchases in your account information. Please select "Store" > "account" and enter your password. Under the subject "iTunes in the Cloud" you should find a menu "hidden purchases" or something. Unhide the music and you should see it on the past purchases like described.

  • Ipod songs wont play

I have had my 80gb Ipod for about 6 months now and have had no problems with it untill now. i have not dropped it or damaged it in anyway. i recently got a new hard plastic case for it and it and now the songs wont play. at first 1 song would play then after it was done it would skip to a random song in that album and not play, then it would play some songs and not others. i have not DL any new programs, music, games or anything on it for weeks. i have like 10,000 songs on it and it has taken me a long time to do so, so i dont wanna reset it, is there any other way to fix this?

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit>Preferences>iPod>Music tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Restored iPod, songs wont show?

It started off a few months ago when one of our family computers was stolen. My brother primarily used that computer for his iTunes and I used another one (this one) for my iTunes. Once it was stolen, we tried to transfer his songs to this computer, and no luck. It only transferred my songs to his iPod. This didn't bother him because we had a similair taste in music, but now he wants his old songs back. I made seperate accounts on the computer for me and him, and I basically erased all of my songs off of his iPod. The problem now is pulling up the songs that he previously purchased. I signed on to his account, and they didnt show up. How do I retrieve them.
    Long story short:
1: My songs replace brothers songs on his ipod.
2: Made seperate accounts for each of us, restored (deleted) his iPod.
3: Signed into his iTunes account, music wont show up.
    Any help or links appreciated.

So your brother's songs are still on his iPod? Or not? I am confused.

  • Purchased songs from iTunes into wrong library, now they are gone.

I purchased a dozen songs from iTunes today and when I went to sync my iPod, I realized that I had the wrong library open. On the computer, I have two different log-ins for Windows. My old log-in is associated with my current iTunes library, but I forgot and used the other log-in. When I opened i-Tunes, it defaulted to an empty library (which I didn't notice) and I went to the store to make my purchases.
So, I canceled the sync so that I don't lose the songs already on the iPod, then try and figure out how I can get my new songs into the other library. When I exited out of iTunes, then went back into it, all the songs I had just bought disappeared. The only thing in that library is the computer's "sample music." When I go to my other log in and open my usual library, all my old songs are there but none of the songs I just purchased.
Any idea where those songs went and how I can recover them? When I log into my iTunes account, it lists them as recently purchased, but I can't find them anywhere on either windows account.
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks for the response.
I just tried to do this, but it doesn't give me an option to down load the songs again. The only option I have is to buy the songs again. I definitely used the same Apple ID, and iTunes recognizes that the songs have already been purchased, but it asks if I want to purchase it again.
Is there something else I need to do in order to re-download?

  • Some songs wont go into iphone

certain songs in the library will not go on my iphone.  they have gray arrows infront of them that look like the ones that appear when syncing but they do not rotate.  tried to put the songs in aac format but that did not help. why is this happening!?

    Hello MFD188,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You may want to manually manage the sync and try to drag and drop the songs that arent syncing.
Also unchecking sync music and apply the settings. Then check sync music, apply  and try to sync again
If it continues to ask you to authorize and they were purchased on this Apple ID, try the third article.

  • HT2905 This is all well and good if you only have a Few DUPLICATES in your Library.  But what if you have Hundreds, because every time they come out with a New Version of iTunes, you have to Re-Import all of your Songs and Playlists into your Library?

What is the easiest way to Automatically Remove Duplicates from my iTunes Library (instead of doing it one by one, which is unfeasible when there are Hundreds of duplicates from installing the newest version of iTunes, or putting it and all of your songs on a New Computer, and it loosing track of all of your File Folders and Playlists, so you have to re-import everything, hence why the Thousands of Duplicates...
I know there are programs you can BUY that will remove Duplicate Tracks from your iTunes Library, but iTunes is Free, so why should I PAY to fix something that's screwed up about it?

See my tips on duplicates. If iTunes creates duplicates when you add content then it is a failure of the workflow you are using.
Upgrading iTunes should have no adverse effect on your library, however you should maintain a backup regardless.
See also this migrate iTunes library post on moving the library to a new computer properly so that there is no need to reimport any content and no lost ratings, playlists, play counts etc.
