MY IPOD SUDDENLY STOPPED BEING RECOGNIZED BY MY COMPUTER AND WOULDNT CHARGE

I have a weird problem, when I plug my IPOD into my computer, it wouldnt be recognized at all (just lik if I had not plugged anything in). The Ipod would work play songs and work fine, but all of a sudden it would not trigger its detection on my Windows XP. It happened all of a sudden.
It wont even charge, or appear in the list of devices... does anyone here have any idea of what could be the problem?
Thanks a lot
David.

I had this problem before. It ended up that I called
Apple and had to purchase an AppleCare Protection
Plan for $50, only for them to tell me to reset my
iPod. Here is how to do it:
Put your iPod on a flat surface.
Toggle the "hold" switch on and then off, to turn
your iPod on.
Press and hold the MENU and SELECT buttons
simultaneously, until the Apple logo appears on the
screen.
Then try to connect your iPod to your comptuer
again.
I hope this helps!
Wond3rlust, what kind iPod are you refering to? Im having the exact same problem with mine; it justs tarted doing this like alst week, but mine's an iPod shuffle, so it doesn't have "menu" and "select" buttons.
But I'm having the same issue with my shuffle. I don't knwo why its doing this. If i knew it was going to cost problems when it isn't even a year odl yet I wouldn't of gotten the shuffle; I would've gotten the mini or something, but I thought, the shuffle being small and not very high tech and everything, that it would cause no problems at all...obviously i was wrong. I NEED HELP TOO!! IM NOTHING WITHOUT MY MUSIC!

Did you try using another usb port? my hardrive has two maybe yours does. And if you have a game console, some of those have usb ports so plug your ipod in there and see if that reconizes it.

  • My iPOD is not being recognized by my computer.....

I have a 30GB white iPOD. It charges and everything. Nothing seems to be wrong with it. My computer can't recognized it. I can't load/unload songs beacuse of this. I have 2 2GB nanos (the new ones) that work fine. What do I do?

You know, my new ipod (The 30 GB) was also not being recognized by my laptop and wasn't even charging.
I think I finally figured out that the usb cord in my laptop didn't have enough power and now I am using my brothers desktop and it seems to work finally.
HOWEVER, now that it didn't charge successfully the first time for a few hours like recommended and I was playing around with it to make it work, I am afraid that my battery is all messed up.
When I thought I was charging it, it really was using up the battery. And there were times my computer would freeze in the middle of the process so I would have to restart my computer
Would anyone know if my ipod will be ok?

  • Why is my old ipod nano not being recognized by my computer as being connected?

my older ipod nano stopped being recognised as connected to my computer. it has also stopped being recognised on my xbox 360 arcade version. please advise on what to do

I have also tried a different cable and giving it a brief charge before attempting to connect to the computer. There has been no problems connecting my iPad using the same cable or USB port and the issue remains the iPod.

  • My Canon Pixma 620 suddenly stopped being recognized by my iMac

For the past year I have had no problems printing with my wireless printer.  But as of just two days ago I am no longer able to print.
Each time I try to print to my Canon Pixma MP620 printer I get a  popup that says The printer is not connected, under which there is a  grey moving line, beneath which it says Printing - the printer is  offline.
When  this first happened I decided to delete and reinstall the printer from my computer, and I reinstalled the driver. The reinstallation worked perfectly and I don't think there is anything wrong with the printer itself. However, when I  tried to print again I had the same problem.
I  have an iMac OSX 10.8.5. As I mentioned, this only started happening  suddenly about two days ago; before that there was never a problem.
Does  anyone have any idea what I can do to have my computer and printer  communicate again? Do you think there is an update that happened  behind-the-scenes that messed this up? Any other suggestions?
    Thank you.

  • My iPod isn't being recognized by the computer.

I've had my classic since this past christmas (it's the new 120g), and last week, everything got wiped off of my iPod. I'm not sure what happened exactly. I restored it on my computer, and re-synced it. Ever since then, my iPod has been showing the big red X at least once a day. Sometimes I can restart it a couple of times, and it will be fine. Today it happened, and no matter how many times I reset it, it still shows the X. I have it plugged into my computer, but the computer doesn't recognize it. It doesn't show up on My Computer or iTunes or anything. I have no idea how to restore it or what do now. I've tried using the "contact the experts" thing online, but when I plug in the serial number for a classic (8M8398FV2C5), it tells me that the number is invalid. That's the number on the back of my iPod and when I plug that number in the search bar, it comes up with a classic.
Please help me, my iPod is my baby.

I also have 6 USB ports and only one is a USB 2.0, the problem is I dont know which one! I was just wondering how many other people are having the same problem as me and if anybody has managed to fix it.

  • Upgraded lastest version of itunes, now ipod touch will not sync. My ipod is recognized by my computer and will charge, but itunes does not recognize it.

I am not tech savvy, to say the least. But the latest versions of itunes and an upgrade for my ipod touch popped up for an upgrade, so I upgraded both. Now, my ipod touch (purchased in 12/2010) is not being recognized by itunes. My computer picks it up and it will charge, but nothing else is happening. I have tried resetting the ipod...but that didn't help anything. What else should I do? I keep seeing info about uninstalling itunes....how does that work and will all of my files (music and apps) be ok?

General troubleshooting for unrecognized ipods in Windows is mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495

As mentioned in this article, reinstalling iTunes will not delete your music and apps, but backing up is always a good idea.
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. See how to back up the contents of your iTunes library in How to back up your media in iTunes.

i recently got a 4 GB nano and my computer cannot read it. i have itunes installed and it runs perfectly well. but when i connect the ipod, it brings up a message saying that windows cannot recognize the hardware because of a malfunction.
i know that the ipod works as i have tested it on another computer and was able to put a few songs on there. i would use the other computer but it has other problems that limit ipod operation (CDs can't be read)
not only will my computer not recognize it, but more often now when i connect the ipod the computer completely restarts as soon as the ipod comes on.
i don't know what's wrong but i know that the ipod works fine and i have used the USB ports numerous times before

  • My ipod can't be recognized on my computer and i have the latest updates.

I have tried everything, i just got a new computer and i don't have the software that came with my mini ipod but I installed the latest versions that are on the site but my computer only charges my ipod it doesn't recognize it so i can't put any songs on it
    mini ipod   Windows XP

I've got exactly the same problem.
    I tried the following:
    1. Call up Apple Service Centre, they advise me to find another computer which can "re-format" the Ipod.
    2. I went back to Apple Store - where I bought the I-Pod.
They plug that in the computer in the shop. It recognised there and the man told me he has just formatted for me, but back home you need to format that again. (He didn't tell me how to but simply ask me to follow the prompt)
    3. Back home, place the Ipod set up disc in CF Rom Drive. Up to the stage where it says, "Please plug and see if your Ipod needed to be formatted". Tried to plug the Ipod with USB Port.
    4. NOTHING SHOWS IN WINDOW - recognising there's new hardware. Ipod Menu shows up and Ipod shows it's charging. After 10 seconds, it said CHARGED COMPLETED.
COMPUTER COULD NOT RECOGNISE the IPOD AT ALL.
I am really frustrated now and don't know what to do.
This IPOD Mini is my 2nd replacement.

  • New Apple Airport Time Capsule Suddenly Stopped Being Recognized by IMAC

It worked flawlessly for a little over a month or so. Then suddenly it is not recognized. It's ID has changed when I look in Time Machine, so I hesitate to reselect this "data" ID that was not what was setup in the store (and which worked flawless for 6 weeks and which now does not appear as available). In Finder, no backup drive appears at all. Just some unknown remote network volume that is not selectable and the hard drive. The TM backup drive is gone.

  • Ipod no longer being recognized by my computer after downloading itune10.2

My iPod 4 - 64 was syncing and fully functional with iTunes version 10.1. The iTunes application suggested I upgrade to version 10.2. While upgrading my computer to iTunes version 10.2, the iTunes install application crashed. I re-downloaded the install application again. Then I did the iTunes version 10.2 install again. The install application asked if I want to fix (repair), or delete and reinstall. The install application was installed numerous times. Finally the install was successful, but the iPod was not recognized on any of my computers or Itunes. Has any one had this problem? I Have all the correct drivers for the USB for all of my computers they are all up to date. I authorized the computer. There are no virus on any of the computers. I have researched the problem and still have not found a solution. I am hoping someone one here will have a solution.
    Thank you for

i did the same with my ipod classic 80 gb - it was working totally fine and when i upgraded the software yesterday it stopped synching. it now causes my itunes to freeze when it's connected to the computer. i tried different computers and cables - usb jacks, uninstalled - reinstalled itunes, hours of reading forums etc..
NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON ANY COMPUTER I PLUG INTO. and the ipod works FINE when it's not connected to the computer.
so - obviously - the software update has somehow corrupted my ipod.
