My iPod touch 1st Generation won't turn, charge or appear on my computer

I have an ipod touch 1st generation that I got about 4 years ago. I don't use it that often because I now have an iPhone but when I went to use it, I found it was dead. It won't charge, turn on or appear on my computer or itunes. I've tried recovery and DFU mode but neither work, since it won't turn on at all. I've tried charging it for almost a whole day but it won't even show me a red battery charging icon. I've tried holding the home and power buttons for several minutes while its plugged in but still nothing. My cord is fine and works with other ipod and i have the newest version of itunes.I have a windows 7 computer. I don't live near enough to an apple store to take it in for them to look at and it's no longer under warrenty and it costs $20 for a one time support session online!! Is there anything i can to fix it without spending too much money or should i just accept its dead and not recovering?

Try the remaining iTunes of the following. I think you covered all but the last.:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you have never replaced the battery now might be a good time since it won't hold a charge.

  • My Ipod touch 2nd generation won't turn on.

My Ipod touch 2nd generation won't turn on, except when I plug it in. When it's plugged in, it works fine, but when I unplug it, the screen turns black. The secont i plug it in again, it shows the apple logo as if i shut it down. When unplugged, it is unresponsive, i've tried everything with the home button and power button, doesn't move, it's just black. I've reset the Ipod, I know it is not a software issue. Sometimes it works, but as soon as i push the sleep button it doesn't turn back on till plugged back in. The battery's bad, but it can still last up to 30 minutes. I don't think it's worth buying a new battery, may as well buy an Ipod 5. (pretty cool)

  • IPod Touch 1st generation won't start up after hard reset

My iPod Touch 1st generation stopped working after I clicked "Erase all contents & settings". It won't start unless I hold the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button together. Then I get the Apple Logo but after a short time a wheel appears just below the logo which never disappears. I have pressed those 2 buttons while the iPod is plugged in to a power source & left it overnight but the wheel still doesn't disappear & nothing further happens. Any suggestions?

  • IPod Touch 1st generation won't connect to wifi

I recently purchased a used iPod touch 1st generation and it will recognize the networks but gives error "unable to join network.". I have reset the phone by pressing home and power and have reset the network also.  Turning the phone off and on doesn't work either.  I will show the network but not any information.  Thanks for the help!

Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Ipod touch 1st generation won't play on ihome doc

I have a 1st generation ipod touch, 32GB.  I received an iHome for Christmas last year that states it is compatible with the 1st generation ipod touch however when I put it in the cradle, it connects and disconnects over and over.  I looked and iTunes stated that there were no updates available for my ipod.  I thought the iHome was defective so I exchanged it for another one and it does the same thing.  The iHome does play with the 2nd generation iPod Nano so I don't think it is an issue with the iHome.  Anyone else have this problem and know how to remedy it?

    - What iOS is on the iPod?  The latest is 3.1.3 and yu get that here not via the iTunes update button.
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
    - Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults.

  • IPod Touch 5th Generation won't turn on and the home button is broken, followed the steps from another thread but it's still not working

I have an iPod Touch 5th Generation with iOS 8.1, my home button is broken and I've been using AssistiveTouch for months now. Today I just locked my iPod and it wouldn't unlock again, it doesn't respond at all, it won't turn on. It was almost fully charged, so it's not the battery. I followed the steps from this thread, but I'm still getting the "USBMuxListenerCreate: No Error" message in CMD Prompt. I bought my iPod abroad and even though I do have the warranty, I've been told at the iStore that it's not valid here, so going to the store isn't really an option. Any ideas how to solve this?

Sorry, but without a working home button it is not possible to reset or restore your device. You should visit an Authorized Appel Service Provider or Apple Store to get it serviced. The warranty for an iPod is not limited to the country where it has been bought, check here: one-year limited warranty
Jailbraking the device will void the warranty.
You can check the warranty status by inserting the serial number on this page: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

  • My iPod touch 5th generation won't turn on after the new iOS update

I've just updated my iPod touch 5th generation to the iOS 8.1.1. (or whatever the newest update is) but once it updated, it now won't turn back on. I've tried plugging it into multiple chargers and computers just in case it wasn't charged, and tired turning it on, but all I get is the apple logo and nothing's happening. What can I do? I haven't backed it up this month and I don't want to loose all my stuff. Thanks.

Try the following. It is very likely that the iPod will have to be erased:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

  • IPod Touch 2nd generation won't turn on and won't show up under Devices on my iTunes.

I was trying to restore my iPod touch because it was locking itself and flashing. When I tried to restore it, the iPod turned itself off completely and won't turn back on. I've tried pressing the lock button and the home button at the same time, and I can't do anything from my computer because my iPod isn't showing up under Devices or Computer. If I put it in the USB port it opens iTunes, but isn't showing that it's plugged in. I have used different USB cords, switched USB ports, and tried charging the iPod, but it still won't turn on. Please help!

You should get it serviced, see your service options here:
    6. My iPod is not eligible for warranty service. What are my service options?
Apple offers two options for iPods that are not eligible for warranty service (see below). You will need to provide credit card details for these services. If you do not have a credit card, please take your iPod to your local Apple Retail Store.
iPod Out-of-Warranty Battery Replacement Program: If your iPod requires service only because the battery's ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, you can have the battery replaced for a service fee by using the Online Service Assistant or at your local Apple Retail Store. Alternatively, you can contact Apple Technical Support.
For more details, please refer to the iPod Out-of-Warranty Battery Replacement Program Frequently Asked Questions.
Out-of-Warranty Service: If your iPod requires service for any other hardware failure that is determined by Apple to be repairable, Apple will service your iPod for the Out-of-Warranty Repair Service fee.
If you want to set up your iPod for the Out-of-warranty service, we recommend that you take your iPod to a local Apple Retail Store. Alternatively, you can contact Apple Technical Support.
If Apple determines that an iPod is not repairable, for example, if it has failed due catastrophic damage or the iPod has been disassembled into multiple pieces, then Out-of-Warranty Service is not available and the iPod will be returned. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

  • My iPod touch 4th generation won't turn on and when I plug it in to charge, it gets really hot. Is there a fix for this?

More information: The iPod ran out of battery late thursday night and I plugged it in to charge. The charging symbol appeared but within 20 minutes, the ipod had gotten very hot and had gained no charge. It hasn't been dropped and it hasn't gotten wet. It's a year and a half old. I use an otterbox as a case, but this problem began three days ago, despite my having been using the brand of case for over a year. It's super important that I find a way to fix this. Help please?

  • My iPod touch (3rd generation) won't turn on and neither iTunes nor windows will recognize the device!

Today my iPod touch (3rd gen) fell onto the floor and the screen turned black. It was almost put of battery anyways so I wasn't exactly worried.... But when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't. It wouldn't hold a charge. I tried hooking it up to the computer and windows pops up a message like "cannot recognize device" and it doesn't show up at all on iTunes. I've tried holding down the both the home and power buttons for 9 seconds. I've tried to enter DFU mode. Nothing seems to work. I could really use some help because I DONT want to buy a new one and I'm definitely not under a warranty. HELP!!!!
