My iPod Touch 2G 4.2.1 is acting up on me. What can I do?
I have an iPod Touch 2G with an iOS of 4.2.1. I've had it since 2011, when I found it slightly beaten up but still usable in the bottom of an old sofa chair. I think that one of my relatives accidentally let it slip from their pocket, but that's another story. Since then, I've used it as my main portable Internet device. I've also jailbroken it. Unfortunately, the past few days have seen it work really badly, so much so that I had to reset the whole thing. Last night, I attempted to reset it. The instructions said that the reset would take about two hours to complete. But now, the thing keeps loading, shutting down, and re-loading and re-shutting down over and over. No main screen, just the Apple logo and my jailbreak logo, and then it shuts down and does it over and over and over and over. It's been almost 24 hours since I began to reset my iPod Touch. I'm so worried. I tried to disrupt the process by holding the home and power buttons at the same time, but no response. My computer can't even get it to respond.
I cannot afford to purchase a newer model (or even an iPad) or have it repaired. I'm on food stamps and still looking for work. Plus, the iPod Touch's warranty ran out years before I came across it, so Apple can't send me a new one. I have another iPod, but it's an iPod Classic. I've had it for over four years and it's become an indispensable part of my life, and so has the iPod Touch. I'm extremely upset right now. If I took this to the nearest Apple Store's Genius Bar and asked for help, I would probably be laughed out of the store. I just don't know what to do.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The appointment is free.

My ipod touch will not charge, turn on, or appear in itunes, what can i do?
When i plug it in to my compuer it shows an empty battery with the charge symbol then after a while it shows the apple logo like it is turning on then nothing happens and it goes back to the battery.I haven't left it overnight to charge. Is there a difference between letting it charge overnight and an hour or two with no results? The ipod does not even recognize that the cord is attatched.
I left it on my dresser in my bedroom. -

Try restting the iPOd. It cures many ills and nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Were there apps in the App store before?

Try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.

Is It Possible To Get My Pics Back?
- What is the source of the photos? If they were taken by or saved to the iPod then they may be in the backup of the iPod. Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and look at the date of the backup. If by date the photos are in the backup, restore from backup. Make sure that you turn off autosyncing (Check the box in iTunes>Preferences>Devices that says "Prevent iPOds...syncing". otherwise when yu connec tthe iPod to the computer the old backup will be overwrittn by the new backup.
- Otherwise you ae our of luck. If they were synced you have to go to where they were synced from. -
Any help would be much appreciated!
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for a 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4G iPods. They do not fix yours.

I have an Ipod touch updated to last available ios 4.2.1.
How can I get the last compatible versions of the apps?
In the appstore there are only the lat app versions, most of them are incompatible with my device.
I know that previous versions of these apps were compatible with my ipod.
Can all download them someway?
thanksThe problem is: I never had the compatible versions. But I want them, I'd buy them if I could.
So I'm stuck with my Ipod, which can't be upgraded anymore to higher IOS versions, and with the appstore, that does not offer older versions; versions that have existed and still exist, perhaps in the recycle bin of some users, or somewhere in the appstore servers.
I know, its a policy, just to sell more devices. Will not work with me. I'm not buying more Ipods -
I updated to IOS 5 tonight on my ipod touch 4th gen and now it won't restore. I can't get it to restore from a backup either. It either says "iTunes could not restore the iPod "____" because the backup session failed or i get error -50. It appears all of my songs and apps are in iTunes, but I guess I don't know where to go from here to get things back to how I had them before. Is there a way to access an early backup to try that? or am I going down the wrong path? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
don't ask me why this worked, but it did for me last night. In iTunes, where your device shows up on the left side, I double clicked on it. It then allows you to change the name like you can for changing file/folder names. I changed 1 letter on the name of the ipod and hit enter. I then right clicked on the new ipod name and chose restore from backup. My choices for backup was the original name of the ipod only and not the name i had just changed it to. I told it to go ahead and backup from the old name figuring I would get the same results, but not the case. It restored it with all app, music and pictures with one exception...all of the settings, email setup and information within the apps was lost. Atleast that an easier fix than starting all over. Hope this will work for you guys too with the same issue.

My iPod touch screen just turned a white-ish green color and I can't turn it on or off. I can't connect it to iTunes, and the back is too scratched up to see the serial number so I have no way of getting it. Can someone tell me how to fix it? Please tell me quickly! I was right in the middle of something!
Did you try a reset?

a while ago i backed up my ipod touch 4g and yesterday it was acting up so i restored it and it deleted ALL of my pictures so can anyone help me to get them back?
currently running iOS 4.3.5If you restored from backup all the photos in your camera roll that were in the backp should be restored to our iPod. However, photos that are synced to the iPod are not in the backup. You will have to resyc them to the iPod. If the synced photos are no longer on the computer then the photos are lost.
