My iPod Touch 4 Generation is stuck in restore mode

I've tried restoring it numerous times but it won't come out of restore mode. It keeps saying it's up to date but won't let me sync it. What should I do?

Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod Touch 5th gen stuck in restore mode

My Ipod Touch 5th gen stuck in restore loop i keep clicking restore and i just keeps downloading the ipod software update, and i wont restore it just keeps saying that a ipod was found in restore mode..... Can someone please help

The same thing happened to me, while restoring my iPod Touch Generation 5.  I don't know if you are still caught in the same loop but this worked for me.  I am using a MacBook Air running Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.  iTunes is at version 11.0.
After running through the published Restore procedure without any success I found the Software Update file had downloaded as:
    "/Users/my_home_directory/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/iPod5,1_6.0.1_10A523_Restore.ipsw"
The ~/Library directory is invisible on my machine, more than likely a design standard.  I used a terminal to first locate the file and then to copy the file to a readable location, my Desktop.
My iPod was still stuck in Recovery Mode so I plugged it in.  iTunes was already running and identified the Recovery Mode iPod, prompting me to Restore it.  I clicked OK.
I held the option key while clicking Restore.  This opened a navitation window that enabled me to select the Software Update .ipsw file I had copied to my Desktop.  The Restore process then ran without any failure and the iPod is now running again.
This is not a formal solution as far as I can tell, nor have I verified the procedure across multiple iPods, multiple scenarios, etc.  I just wanted to share it as an "at-your-own-risk" alternative you might want to try.
    Good luck, cupcakequeen83.

  • My iPod Touch 4g is stuck in Apple Mode after attempting to install the Siri GUI. What can I do to restore?

I have an 8GB, 4g iPod Touch. It has the lastest iOS on it (iOS 5). Yesterday I used Cydia to jailbreak it. I had no idea what I was doing but I followed step-by-step instuctions and it worked! Needless to say, I've messed up several times (while rebooting) and I am now a Pro!! Lol. Anyway, today, I was installing the Siri GUI software onto the iPod. It was a long and drawn out process and I'm assuming that I did it wrong. It was stuck in the black screen with the little (loading) loop. It sat there for about 30 minutes. Sometimes the loop would spin, sometimes it would just be there. Finally, I pushed the Home and Power buttons at the same time and I got the Apple Logo. And this is where I am stuck now.
I have tried a number of things, such as:
    * Holding down the power button and hoping that the "slide to power off" screen would come up. No response.
    * Holding down the Power AND Home buttons at the same time thinking the "connect to iTunes screen" would come up. The screen just goes black and then the Apple Logo comes back up.
    * I've tried connecting to iTunes but it doesn't recognize my device. My laptop doesn't even "ding" when I plug it in. I've tried changing the USB port that I have the cord plugged into. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I've restarted my computer. I've went through the Apple Support troubleshooter and dealt with the "third party conflicts".
I'm not sure what else to do here. I realize that I probably should not be downloading, jailbreaking and attempting to 'mod' my iPod- I don't even know what DFU mode, GUI or most of the other hi-tech words mean. I am just pretty good at following directions, lol.
    Can someone please help??
I'm using a Windows 7 OS on my laptop, not MAC.

I suggest try getting it back to your stock iOS and forget about jailbreaking.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen stuck in recovery mode loop and unable to restore

    Hello,
I attempted to download and update my iPod to IOS 8 wirelessly on the release date Sept. 17.  After a few hours of downloading, I plugged my iPod into its charger to allow for the installation to complete.  I went out for a few hours that evening and returned to find my iPod touch with the recovery mode image (cord hooking up to iTunes).  At first i tried to kick it out of recovery mode by using some 3rd party applications.  Every time that happened, it would reset my iPod only to return to the previous image (cord hooking up to iTunes).  After this, I gave up trying to just kick it out of recovery mode and just restore it using iTunes.  For the last 3 days, I have continuously  attempted to restore my iPod but i am never able to successfully download the software.  I have received multiple errors regarding "failure to connect to update serves" or "session has timed out".  Most of the time,I ca't even get to the Terms and Agreements popup.  The window simply says "attempting to connect to update server."  In the extremely rare case that I get passed the terms and agreements pop up and begin the download,  the approximate wait time always exceeds 80 hours, and then an error is detected shortly after stating the  "failure to connect to update serves" and "session has timed out" errors.
I would simply like to be able to restore my device and make it usable so it is not a metal and glass "brick".  Any help in this matter is much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Ipod touch(1st gen) stuck in recovery mode and cannot restore??

I just bought a used ipod touch 1st gen.  It was fully functional before I wiped it.  I wanted to remove all of the other person's music and personal info before I started using it. I also wanted to update ios.  I wiped it and when it restarted it was in recovery mode. I have tried to restore it and I keep getting an error message that it could not restore unknown error has occurred  (1).  I have tried troubleshooting and going through all of the steps that Apple suggests and nothing has worked.  Any suggestions?  I just want it restored and updated to the latest ios that will work with it (3.1.1 I believe) I don't know what to do at this point.

  • My iPod Touch 3G is stuck in recovery mode.

I've tried different ports, I've disabled firewall and completely uninstalled antivirus and anti-spyware... I've used shift restore, I've tried DFU mode, no other computer to try it on, though.... I'm completely stuck.  I have Windows 7 running most recent itunes.  I go through this every time there's an update and eventually it would just finally take, but this is a new computer and I've honestly spent every moment that I'm home trying to get this update through.

  • IPod touch 3rd gen stuck in recovery mode and iTunes cannot fix it

i have an ipod touch 3rd generation with firmware 4.3.4. i was recently playing an app whe all of the sudden my ipod just shuts off. i held the power button but it would not turn on. then i tried just holding and pressing and holding the power and home button on my ipod touch trying to get it to turn back on. eventually the apple logo appeared and i felt relieved. however the usb and itunes screen popped up so i plugged my ipod touch into my computer and tried to restore it. when i plugge my ipod touch in a message popped up telling me that my ipod touch was in recovery mode and had to be restored. so i clicked on restore and waited for my ipod to restore. then another message popped up. it said that my ipod was not approved from apple to be restored. i had no idea what was going on so i did some research. i found that other people have seen an error pop up but with an error number. my error displayed no error number. i thought to myself that that was strange so i tried to restore my ipod agian. then i realized when i clicked on my ipod in itunes that my ipod summery was wierd. the name of my ipod was ipod and the capacity and serial number etc. said n/a. what is wrong with my ipod and how do i fix it? i miss my ipod.

  • My iPod Touch 4 is stuck in recovery mode & iTunes doesn't recognize it

I ran an IOS Software Update on my Ipod Touch 4, during which the Ipod totally locked up. Then the iTunes icon appeared on the screen, with a power cord symbol. I plugged it into the computer, and opened up iTunes. iTunes said the iPod was in recovery mode and that it could only open it if it was restored. I ran restore, which I was very hesitant to do; but I had no other option.  It took a very long time, but appeared to be working properly, no error messages appeared during the restore. It took hours to restore.. At the end of the restore process, I expected the iPod to reboot or another screen to come up on the iTunes page on the PC. Instead, nothing changed. The iTunes page stayed the same, the iPod stayed the same, with the same "iTunes" screen. After an hour,  I unplugged it.  I went online for a solution, followed the instructions to put it into DFU mode after iTunes quit recognizing it altogether when I plug it in. The iPod screen is still stuck on the "recovery mode" screen.  I have the most current version of iTunes on the PC, running it on a Windows PC with Vista.  I love my iPod and ran the software update for maintenance, and instead it locked it up and made it unusable.  It is no longer covered under warranty. I tried the health check with Apple, but they can't communicate with the iPod because it's in recovery mode.  Please help!  I live in a town with no Apple store.
