My iPod touch 4th generation suddenly started restarted over and over for no apparent reason...
So, last night while I was asleep, my iPod Touch started to restart over and over. It loads with the Apple symbol, but with a little settings cog at the bottom of it, and when it get's to the password screen, it stays there for about one second, and the process starts over again. It wont respond to being turned off or on, and the password numbers are unresponsive.
I tried pressing and holding the off button and the home button, and it turns off briefly before starting up again. It turns on without the little settings cog, but as usual, it stays at the password screen for a second, then the loop continues.
I've tried plugging it into my computer, but all that does is make it do it's little 'I'M CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER' beep every time it turns on! I don't fancy taking it to Apple to repair, as I use it every day and I don't really fancy spending the money and having to wait. If any one has had any success with this issue, I would be extremely grateful.
Any suggestions would be completely welcome - even if they're not things that have proved to work. I'm pretty desperate.
Use RecBoot to kick it into recovery mode and restore it.

I got my ipod touch (4th generation) on March 20, 2012, and it fell out of my pocket when I jumped. Unfortunantly, the screen cracked very badly, and it has become a hazard, not only for the many cuts I have gotton on my fingers from the ipod screen's broken glass, but for what I type (because the screen is cracked so badly, I cannot see what I am doing). The ipod has become pointless to own in its condition. My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins from full power, think it needs a new internal battery but have no idea how to go about this and am no longer covered by my guarantee. Can anyone advise me on what's best? Thanks in advance
Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use an Apple wall-mount charger. Do NOT use a computer's USB port. Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear). An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem. I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge. -

If you successfully restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem. Could be the screen or something else.

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not inlcuded synced media like apps and music. If that media is not in the iTunes library then it is gone after the update/restore.

IPod Touch 4th generation cannot start up...
I have a almost 4-month-old 4th generation iPod Touch which i have not used for about 3 weeks.
Unfortunately, the iPod Touch would not START UP. The screen is blank even after i pressed the Home button and Sleep/Wake button for about 5 minutes.
I've tried to charge it through my computer for about 2 hours-no change. The computer (it was reformated recently) doesn't register the device when I plugged it in either...
So, what should i do next?After being connected to a charger for half an hour, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod. For recovery mode see:

More information: The iPod ran out of battery late thursday night and I plugged it in to charge. The charging symbol appeared but within 20 minutes, the ipod had gotten very hot and had gained no charge. It hasn't been dropped and it hasn't gotten wet. It's a year and a half old. I use an otterbox as a case, but this problem began three days ago, despite my having been using the brand of case for over a year. It's super important that I find a way to fix this. Help please?

i can not get my ipod to get out of the connect to itunes page , and when i plug it in it says itunes mobile device system is not setup
From what I know from troubleshooting all sorts of screwed-up PC devices, you should try the following steps (I have assumed you didn't try any of them, so plz don't take offence for some "basics"):
1) Updating the iTunes on your PC, or if it's already the latest, see if you can find the individual install package of "Apple Mobile Device Support" by using Window's Search (the package should be "AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi") and reinstall it (Uninstall the existed one first). If you can't find the individual package, I think you may find a downloadable one online, or if you want to simply the process, just reinstall the whole iTunes.
2) If problem remains, check if there's any "application/service monitoring function" on your anti-virus/spyware program, and find if "Apple Mobile Device Support" is on its "blocked list", remove this entry when you find it.
3) Check if there's any "Registry" clean-up software/function in a software, or whether you've altered any apple-related or unknown registry entries. If it's a yes, see if you can find the most recent Registry backup before the iPod connection problem occured. In the case you do not have any backup (Make sure! Almost every Registry clean-up software would back-up Registry before any cleaning process. You can find them in this software's directory), simply use the "system restore" program of Windows to restore your computer to the latest point when iPod's connection with PC was still functioning.
Since we can't find any problems with "Apple Moblie Device Support" from above steps, let's refocus to the hardware part:
4) Restore the "setting part" to default on you iPod, if you don't want to wipe clean your setting now, try below steps first.
1) Plug in your iPod to other USB port, if it doesn't work, try plug in other devices to check if there's any problem with your USB ports or USB's drivers on PC. (If there is, try 'roll back' the USB driver's version by entering to its 'property' on right-clicked menu, if still doesn't work, maybe the USB ports are broken-down)
6) Go over the steps and check if you've tried everything. The latest choice I'd advise is to check if you can find another "USB cable" for iPod and plug-in so you'd know if the original is broken.

What do you mean "get it back"? If Apple has determined that you have voided the warranty (jailbreaking the device, water damage/exposure, accidental damage or for whatever reasons), then there is no getting it back. It is voided, so you no longer are covered under warranty.
