My iPod Touch 5th Generation is not recognized at all on my windows 8 laptop nor on iTunes using Windows 8

When I first got my iPod touch my windows 8 laptop would not recognize it. I had an unfortunate issue and had to replace my iPod. Even with this new iPod my laptop and iTunes do not recognize it. Is windows 8 compatible with the 5th Generation iPod? Are there device Drivers needed for my windows 8 computer to recognize the iPod touch? Any answers would be lovely.

- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

  • The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly

The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly. It has sound without the headphones in but when I plug them in it has no sound, it's low, or poppy. I had only used my apple supplied headphones once before and it worked fine. I know it's not the headphones because I tried them on my girlfriends phone and they worked fine.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

It has a list of instructions as to how to fix it and I followed them until it said to load the driver for the device from a disk.
I have no such disk nor do I know of one.
My computer said the driver is present but there is a problem installing it.
Does anyone know of what disk they are talking about?

  • My ipod touch 5th generation will not turn on and the home button doesn't work. what do i do?

Hello my name is Leslie and i would like to ask you guys a question on how to fix my ipod or what is wrong with it. My ipod touch 5th generation will not turn on and the home button doesn't work. what can i do to fix it ?

Has the home button worked in the past, or is this been something that hasn't worked for some time? The only way to reset the device is with the sleep/wake (power) and home buttons together. Without it, you would have to wait until the battery dies and then plug it in to try and reset it. The Home button is used for several user troubleshooting steps. Without it, you cannot perform a reset, put the device into recovery mode, or place it in DFU mode. You need to get the home button repaired.

  • Please Help Me. iPod Touch 5th generation will not download music from itunes

My son has an IPod touch 5th generation that he got for Christmas (3 months old :(!  All of a sudden if he is on iTunes and buys a song it won't download. It will say its already been purchased but its not in downloads.  I have soft reset and now finally did the erase all data and settings.  When it started up and i signed into icloud everything started downloading but the music.  If I go into the iTunes app and hit purchased music I can see all the music but when I go to hit specific artists it sits and loads (circle is circling) and won't show me the individual song titles.  I'm sick to my stomach that the iPod is not fixable because I can't afford to buy my son a new one and I haven't finished paying this one off.  Can anyone help me please?   I can add music from iTunes on my computer directly to the iPod when plugged in. So I am assuming this means something is wrong with iPod.    Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

First, don't obsess over it.  If, in fact, there is something wrong with the iPod, it's still in warranty.  Now, I don't know for certain what will fix this for you but here are some suggestions, beginning with one that's quick and easy.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • IPod touch 5th generation does not recharge

My new iPod touch 5th generation, using iOS 6.0.1, is just over 1 month old and today it will not recharge anymore.
When I plug teh iPod into an outlet to recharge it no longer makes the "connection" sound and the battery icon does not change to the lightening bolt.
When the iPod is OFF and then plugged in, iPod turns on, but makes no sound and the battery icon does not change to the lightening bolt.
Also, NOW, when I plug it into my MacBook, a window appeara that says the USB has been disabled because a device was drawing too much power.
When I plug my iPod 4th generation (also using iOS 6.0.1) into my MacBook, there is no problem with the USB or charging with the same adapter.
The few hours before now . . . when plugged in to recharge . . .
sometimes iPod made the sound as I unplugged it, but it had not charged
sometimes iPod made the sound the moment it was plugged in and the lightening bolt appeared, but only for a second, then lightening bolt disappeared.
sometimes iPod made the sound and showed the lightening bolt and started to recharge, but then made the sound, lightening bolt disappeared, and iPod stopped recharging (without any contact to iPod during the recharge)
sometimes iPod made the sound, showed the lightening bolt, and started to recharge, but then during the charge it would make the sound a few times, but when I checked iPod was still recharging, or had finished the charge to 100% (also without any contact to iPod during the recharge)
    Any advice???

    Thanks IIIaass,
I got your message just after returning home from an Apple Reseller / authorized Apple service provider (Taiwan has NO Apple stores, and only resellers and authorized Apple service providers which have a wide range of levels of customer service, most well below USA Apple standards).
It did turn out that my "Lightening cable" was defective . . . I also had found many others have this problem through searching online . . . it seems strange that I could not find this information through the Apple website, trouble shooting, or community discussions.
Anyhow, of course, since I was not at an official Apple Store or dealing with an Apple service employee, they were not happy to help me, and they did not want to give me a new "Lightening cord" for my 40-day old iPod with AppleCare.   Eventually they decided to replace my cord, but it was not a pleasant experience.
I don't know why there is no Apple store in Taiwan . . . there are Apple resellers everywhere and the producta are very popular here.
Again, thanks for the information and the interesting article about the "Lightening cables".

My ipod touch 5th generation went into recovery mode when I tried to update ios. When I try to recover it just keeps looping back to recovery mode. I tried to hold the power button for 3 secs. then simultaneously hold the home button for 10 secs. then hold only power button for 20 secs. I tried this several times to no avail. This is my daughter's ipod. I am computer illiterate and I'm not sure what else to try.

  • My ipod classic 5th generation is not playing any kind of audio. i tried resetting it and i used multiple speakers/ear buds. nothing worked. do you have any other suggestions?

My ipod classic (5th generation) is not playing any audio. when i play a song the little picture of the album cover comes up and the seconds clock and the blue line come up and change/move, but there is no sound. i have tried multiple speakers/ear buds and i have tried to reset it but notheing worked.
    What should i do?

Assuming that you actually have the volume turned up (you don't say that you have, after all), make sure that the Volume Limit is not turned all the way down.
Look in the Settings/Volume Limit menu. The small arrow controls the volume as well.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • Ipod Touch 5th Generation will not turn on, restore, or show up in itunes unless in DFU mode.

So a friend gave me his Ipod Touch 5th gen because he couldn't fix it himself and he bought a new one, and while I'm stoked to have a near brand-new Ipod touch, it's also frustrating me to the point I'm ready to give up on it aswell and pass it down the line. I'm not sure what he did to it, he says it just stopped working but you never know.
Anyways, the problem is that it simply does not turn on regardless of what I do to it. When I plug it into the computer, it gets warm; usually a sign it's charging fine. However, it doesn't show up on Itunes. I read some forum posts and searched around other places aswell, and tried putting it into DFU/Recovery(not sure which is which anymore, it's the one where you hold down the power button for 3 seconds, then home+power for 10, then home button for 20). It showed up on Itunes, and said it needed to restore. I downloaded the 1.2gb update it needed, but then it hung at the "Waiting for Ipod" progress bar. As it does this, I get maybe 3-5 Windows 'bing' sounds of a connecting/disconnecting device, ending on a disconnect sound. Itunes eventually times out the restore with an error code 4005, which I read means the Ipod has been disconnected in the middle.
After this, it doesn't show up on Itunes and I have to repeat the process to get it to show up again. I tried it a third time just now and it's still doing the same thing.
Any ideas? Really at the end of the line on ideas I think.
    Please and thanks,
    -Cody
P.S. I don't know if it matters but the warmth is coming from the top/camera end fo the Ipod. Not sure where the battery is versus the CPU, but maybe that'll help the diagnosis.
P.S.S. Also, when it shows up in Itunes in recovery mode, it doesn't show a serial number, so I don't think an Apple store would even work on it without a serial #.

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
