  • Replacement iPod Touch 8GB (2nd Gen) beggining to fall apart after two months!

Well my problem is plain and simple
My first iPod touch (8GB 2nd Gen) was working perfectly fine until one day it slipped from my hands and the screen shattered. I took the iPod in to Best Buy and they overlooked the serial number and looked up my plan (product replacement plan) and they took it in and sent it out. They promised me a refurbished or a new iPod touch. They said it should take only about 5 days but it took two weeks, but in all fairness it was around a busy holiday seasons so i can understand the holdup. My Apple warranty was already up when i took the first iPod in for a replacement so i just used my product replacement plan. 2 weeks later i recieved my refurbished iPod in the mail, how could i tell it was refurbished, well for one the back of the iPod was void of any scratches but there was no Apple or "iPod" branding?! They also did not include the headphones used with current and past models, they shipped headphones that were changed years ago to a new design, i tested the headphones, and they were broken. I just said oh well and when i went to plug it in with the "new" cord they included i noticed there were stains all over it and i had to disinfect them (..yuck!) it made me certainly rethink even using the headphones in the first place. One thing that seemed odd to me was that it included OS 3.0 since 2nd gen iPods only ship with OS 2.2.1 and after checking the settings i confirmed it was in fact a sencond generation iPod Touch. After about a week of use i plugged in my headphones and i could only hear through one side, i unplugged them and replugged them and the problem was resolved and i thought it was a fluke, so i just disregarded it but its been a month now and since last week no matter what headphones i use i always get sound from the left channel. I was honestly furious that after only 1 month the ipod it starting to fall apart in front of me. I inspected the iPod closely and noticed that if held a certain way the glass on the lower right coner of the iPod begins to move around. The home button has also failed to respond quite a few times. Then when one day the external speaker started to begin to become flaky and sometimes not work at all, i just said "thats it!" im currently resetting the iPod to factory settings and putting a test sound on it for them to listen to and see the problem. In fact when i received it there was already a test sound on it so i presume there was a problem with the jack previously? I am repackiging everything and am off to geek squad tommorow, if there is any other advice to offer please let me know. Ive treated the iPod like a child after the first one shattered and the device has never been dropped, the screen and the back cover are spotless (minus the small scratches on the back chrome cover just from normal use) the iPod has never been near water and i checked the iPod to see if infact water could have gotten in the iPod and the sticker was still sparkling white, i am sorry Best Buy ive been a customer for years and while do not mean to rant and complain it has only been to months and its already falling apart?! i am sorry that is just not acceptable.

I just got my ipod touch 2nd gen 8gb replacement ipod in the mail two days ago. And i fell that my screen has cracked way to easily. I had my other ipod touch before this one for a year and a half and the screen had never been cracked. But my first two days with this "replacement" ipod has cracked twice. i am willing to take the blame for the first crack as i dropped it in the street and my case didnt do its job, but lasnight i put my hand in my sweatpants pocked only to find small peices of glass. i took out my ipod and there was the problem. a large shatter on the bottom near the homebutton. Seriously 2 cracks in 2 days with my REPLACEMENT after 360+ days and no cracks with my forsure APPLE ipod touch? I doubt my ipod touch screen is even made by apple.

  • IPod Touch 32gb 2nd gen can't sync

I just got my new PC running W7 on a 64bit system. So heres my problem:
I tried to sync it with my iPod touch 32gb 2nd gen, but then I got that "Error 0xE8000065". So I put it in DFU mode and just synced. Itunes got my touch, loaded the 3.1.2 firmware and tried to install it. At first it worked, but then I got that "Error 0xE8000065" again.
I'm not using an nVidia ECHI USB chipset and/or a p55-based motherboard, so I couldn't find an answer. I hop you can help my soon, thanks in advance . And please don't mind misspelling, I'm from Germany :P.

    i have a i believe a iPod touch 8gb 2nd gen..how do i updrade it to get more apps

iOS 4.2.1 is the last version of iOS that a 2nd-gen iPod touch can run. If the apps you want require a newer version of iOS, then you'll have to purchase a newer-model iPod.

  • HT1430 My 4th Gen iPod touch will not turn, doesnt charge, and i can't reset in computer because it says it is protected by a passcode, but i cant enter pass code because the screen stays black and won't even light up... What do I do

My 4th gen iPod Touch has had a blank screen for about 3-4 weeks now, it will not turn on, sync, or charge. iTunes recognizes its plugged up, but i cant reset it because it says its passcode protected, but i cant enter passcode due to screen not lighting up or working. How do i fix this?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • Returning 1st gen ipod touch for 2nd gen?

Does anyone know if I could return my 1st gen ipod touch for the 2nd gen or even give it to them and get money off the 2nd gen? I want to return my first gen because i have noticed that some of the apps that I want to download require a mic. If you no if i can trade mine in please respond. Thank you

... and the second generation Touch doesn't have a mic anyway. Chris will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe, if you want to use a mic-dependant App on a 2nd gen Touch, then you need to buy a headphone/mic combination to plug in instead of standard headphones. I don't know +at all+ about the 3rd gen.
Non-mic Apps can run on a 1st gen Touch if you purchase the software upgrade, but whether that also includes mic-Apps, well, once again, I don't know. (Not much I do know really, is there? )
Perhaps you need to consider how much you need mic dependant Apps before rushing into the major expense of a Touch which may not actually meet your needs. There's always the iPhone of course.

Ah, there you go, in this post - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2322224&tstart=30 - sparky67 says the 3rd gen 32G and 64G Touch comes with a microphone/headphone combination.

  • IPod touch 5 th gen not charging

Can anyone tell us why brand new iPod touch 5th gen won't charge ?

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

How do I install (transfer?) these on the new touch?
I also want to reset my first gen touch- so that nothing ins on it except the default apps, so I can sell it.
How do I transfer my paid apps to the new ipod touch?
    thanks

Connect the original iPod touch to iTunes, select it, choose Transfer Purchases from the File menu, and then sync them to the new one. Click here and follow the instructions to erase the original iPod touch.

  • Ipod Touch 32Gb 2nd Gen Ranomly Crashes?!? HELP!!!

Sorry for a double post, but it was in the wrong section.
Well I recently bought at 32Gb 2nd Gen Ipod Touch about three weeks ago, and it's amazing. It's pretty much everything I expected it to be. Well... there's only one problem I have with it. I could be listening to music, or watching a movie, or just browsing some pages on safari and then it would just randomly turn off. I mean, I can't be because of some external damage, can it? I haven't dropped it. I updated it to the 2.2 firmware, and I even restored it about three times now, but nothing has changed with it. It just keeps randomly restarting. When I restored it I didn't even add music, I had like three applications, Bubble Wrap Pro, Bubble Wrap, and Field Runners, then I went to browse a page on safari and it just randomly restarted... I thought that restore was pointless if it was just going to do that crap all over again... I use to think it was the album art, because I got that off the album art off google. Do they have to be a certain type of picture like .png or .jpeg? Well I deleted them all off and it still messes up? Just randomly restarts whenever I'm doing something. What's the problem with my Ipod!?? Do I have a corrupt file like a song, application or movie? Also whenever I connect it to my computer it says like "MD Crash Report," what is that? Does that have any affect to what's happening to my Ipod? I have a three-year warranty at Best Buy. I took it back and they were little help. They told me that I probably had a corrupt file. I think I do, but how can I find it? I have over 2,000 songs, so I have no time to look for one song that is corrupt, you know! And no I don't hold the sleep and home button... I know that's how to restart it. So can anyone help? Any ideas on how to fix it and what causes it to restart?
I've done a little research but not a lot of people have the same problem. Well thank you for reading!

If you've reset it 3 times and it still hasn't worked then it seems to me (although I'm probably wrong) like a hardware issue. After all, I doubt a corrupt song file could do that and if you only have 3 applications on it (all of which you have downloaded through the iStore right?) then I highly doubt it to be software related.
I'd take it back to the shop and ask for it to be repaired or better yet a new unit. Don't listen to their rubbish, you've paid for a 3 year guarantee so make sure you get what you want!
I think a corrupt song can mess it up a little though, right. But I just don't know how to find the corrupt song or application. Or maybe it isn't that? I really don't know. Can someone tell me for sure what the problem is? And yes, I get all my applications from the App Store. It's not jailborken either, and there isn't even a jailbreak for the 2nd Gen Ipod Touch...
So how am I suppose to prove to the "Geek Squad" that my Ipod is broken if it randomly chooses to turn off? I can't sit there for fifteen minutes waiting for it to randomly restart so that they can see it, and tell me that it's a hardware issue. Do I just ask them for a new unit? Can I just go to any Apple store, and they can help me? Or is it just not likely that they would help me beacuse I bought it from Best Buy. Anyone know?

  • IPod Touch Calendar - 2nd Gen

When using the calendar on iPod Touch with firmware 2.1.1, is there a way to set events to repeat on a certain day, instead of date? For example, an event created today (Wednesday, Oct 8th) repeat next month on the same day (2nd Wednesday), instead of repeating on Nov 8th?

That I know I've read that but unless someone comes up with a work around, before then, I'll move to google or yahoo calendars.
I'm Mac through and through, a total fan but like alot of people these day I'm having to cut back, yes it's nice I'm not paying the mobileme sub anymore but I can't justify buying a new ipod or stretching to an iphone.
Maybe I having to grow away from Apple.

  • Is It OK to Get iPod Touch 32GB 2nd Gen?

Been reading some sites that say Apple Lossy & Lossless files are skipping. I have no idea what these are or do. I just get my music from itunes. Am I going to run into any problems? It seems it is only happening on 32 GB 2nd gen.

You've obviously been following the thread on the 'skipping' music on the new Touch. I have the 1st Gen. Touch and it is fantastic. Bought my son the new one for Xmas. Am on the second one in less that 2 weeks. Both have had 'skipping' problems. The latest replacement is going back for a full refund shortly if Apple don't sort this problem out. I suggest that you hold off until Apple fix this problem. I don't agree with Sandham "There will always be bugs" You buy the product and expect it to work. The bugs should be ironed out at the R&D stage, not by the customer! (anyway she is using the 1st Gen Touch, which does not have this problem).

  • IPod Touch 16g 2nd gen, many problems

Ok, I got my iPod touch 2nd generation for my birthday, i've had it since the 12th of November. It hasn't worked smoothly since I pulled it out of the box. My computer is very new, and runs Windows 7 64 bit. I have the 64 bit version of Itunes in it's latest incarnation. It was able to sync everything once in a while, but when I went to sync it up later times the computer would A: Think it's a new iPod and want to erase all data to set it up B: Want to perform a restore (which it would subsequently fail at doing) C: give me a strange error with a long number code like -69999 or something D: just be unable to recognize the device or sync with it at all.
I first went to the Apple support website and did EVERYTHING on there. Uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, Apple mobile devices, anything that had anything to do with apple. I reinstalled all of that and it didn't work. I did a restore using the settings on the iPod touch, then uninstalled everything again on my computer and redid it all. Still did the same things. I've tried every USB port on my computer (like 10 of them). After everything on the support site didn't work, I finally called Apple Support and spoke to someone for about half an hour. He had me run through various things that i did before, and promised me a new iPod because mine didn't work. Then my phone died and I had to call AGAIN and spent ANOTHER half an hour on the phone with someone who told me to do all the same stuff and then promised me a new Ipod. So i get the case number, the repair number and everything, send the thing off happily expecting a new machine that would finally work. Then apple says there's nothing wrong with my ipod and sends it back, (with 2 dead pixels i've noticed). Now iTunes wont even recognize it. It just says Itunes could not connect to this iPod because an unknown error occurred (OxE800000A). I'm at my wits end, I've yet to even enjoy my birthday present since i got it and Apple Support seems to have failed me at every turn. Can someone please help?
    Thanks

I think the tip here is "new computer". If your computer runs the Intel chipset, there is a firmware bug (Intel problem) that will give you preciously the problems you are experiencing. The particular chipset is the Intel P55. See this article for more information:
