My ipod touch automatically presses the home button

my ipod touch automatically presses the home button causing apps to close, appswitching tray to pull up, and turning to spotlight search. i dont think my home button is broken; i can press and release it no problem. could this be a software problem?
thanks!

I would try the standard fixes inorder:
- Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First from backup and if problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Ipod touch automatically sets off HOME button

hi, I accidentally spilled water and got a little bit on my ipod. Afterwards, I noticed that after I charge it, the ipod would automatically hit the home button.
When I'm playing a game or have an app opened, it would close because it sets off the home button.
when I press the top button, it would sometimes take a picture because it's holding the home button.
When I leave it in lockscreen and screen off, the screen would automatically turn on.
    1. Is there anyway to fix this? or to disable the home button when I'm in game.
    2. Also, can I send it in for repair? The earbuds jack doesn't show any red from water spillage.
Thx, any insights would be appreciated.

also, when i put it near my static-y shorts, it sets off the home button.

  • Double touch (not press) the home button!?!?

With any app open on the screen double touch (not press) the home button. It slides the app down to show a blue blank screen. Does anyone know what this is for

    Hello,
This function is called "Reachability" (also known as 1-handed mode).
It allows a user to control the phone with one hand.
If you wish to turn it off: go to settings, go to accessibility, turn it off.

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost

  • Ipod 4g keeps pressing the home button

I don't know how else to explain it. but it keeps waking up from sleep and going to the play/pause etc. controls. exiting apps and generally doing what happens when you press the home button a lot. what happened? Is it covered under warantee? I got it for xmas. there was no liquid damage btw

Good thing it is still under warranty. They should replace it with a new one.

  • IPod Touch keeps hitting the home button

Before I begin, I have a 32GB 3rd generation iPod Touch. I bought it off of Amazon directly and it arrived January 27 of this year.
And until 2 days ago, I loved it and it worked great. However, now it keeps hitting the home button on its own. It does have a case, but even when the case is removed it continues to be a "phantom." My iPod is not jailbroken or anything. No matter what I do on it, it will eventually hit the home button, which closes me out of what I was doing. I Google'd this before and it said to restart it and or restore it. I have done both and it continues to have this problem. If anyone has a solution to this, PLEASE help me or I will have to call Apple and most likely ship it to them.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I talked to an Apple Expert and just brought it to UPS.
Thank you David. I had a 1 year warranty.

  • What do I do with my iPod Touch 4g when the home button does not work and when I plug it in to charge it always says that charging is not avaible with this accesory?

iPod Touch 4g home button won't work plus will not charge properly

Take it to a reputable third-party repair shop. Apple will not touch it after you have opened it up and tinkered with the works.

  • What happens to the apps when I press the home button on iPod touch?

Yeah, I know that sounds obvious, but I need to know the idea behind it. In iOS 4, you can multitask, but only if you have an iPod touch 3rd generation (32 or 64 GB). I don't have an iPod touch 3rd generation; I have the 8 GB 2nd generation, which I upgraded to iOS 4, so I have no multitasking for 3rd party apps.
So my question is: On my 2nd generation iPod touch that runs iOS 4, if I close a 3rd party app that uses Push Notifications (such as Facebook or Textfree Unlimited) by pressing the home button, will it still run in the background?

I'm not dead certain of this, but I think the only push mail supported is Apple's MobileMe. When you launch another app the current app is closed. The Home button should close any running app. The only exception I've noted is if you are playing music on the Touch which seems to continue playing even when running another app.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod keeps taking pictures of the screen when i keep pressing the home button, my ipod keeps taking pictures of the screen when i keep pressing the home button

I broke my ipod a few months ago, but I got it fixed for my birthday. The wake/sleep button was permanently broken though and my ipod still has glithces in which it randomly takes pictures of what is on the screen. These glitches have been small until today when I was using it. When I pressed the home button, it took a picture of the screen and it has been continuously doing that for about and hour now. What can I do to fix it? Please help.

I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1 with this same issue.
When the phone is locked and has been left unattended for a while, sometimes when I first press the home button (to illuminate the screen ready to unlock it) it causes the phone to take screen capture.
My power/lock button is not stuck, as I can use it to lock and unlock the phone as normal. There is however one oddity in that if I power of the phone it cannot be power back on by pressing the power button! To power up the phone it has to be plugged into a charger, which (thankfully) automatically causes the phone to power on.
I'm sure the two issues are related, but I've even after replacing the flex cable that operates the power button, headphone jack, volume buttons and mute switch I've been unable to resolve either the screen capture issue or the powering on issue.
    .....it's quite strange
