My ipod touch freezes during the backup portion of sync...help

Everytime I try to sync my ipod touch it freezes during the backup portion.  Not sure what to do

Go to preferences, devices, and prevent it from syncing automatically.
Disable any and all security/antivirus programs on your computer, restart it, and try to sync it again.
They are most likely interfering with iTunes.
If this does not work, create another user for your computer (as an Administrator), and try to sync your ipod on that user.

I have a Windows XP SP2 pc with 1 gb ram and 6 USB 2.0 slots
I have had reinstalled my windows XP last week ago.
    What can be the problem??

    Hi,
have you tried to use another of your USB slots? Are those at the computer or provided via a powered hub? If the latter, try to use one on your computer, probably one on the backside, to make sure no internal hub is used.

  • My iPod keeps freezing during the middle of songs etc.?

My iPod keeps freezing in the middle of songs and even when i plug it into the computer to charge. I've tried to restore it but iTunes rejects it, saying that it has an error. what can I do?

I have an Ipod touch.  Recently it has started stopping in the middle of the songs.  Sometimes it stops completely and sometimes it goes to the next song.
All the songs is it stopping on are recent purchases from Itunes.  A couple of the songs stopped midway while playing them on Itunes.  I did unsync the new songs and then added them again.
I tried the reset mentioned above, but it didn't help.
I have over 3000 songs, I'd like to avoid unsyncing and resyncing if at all possible.
the restore to factory defaults removes all the updates, doesn't it?
    I'd appreciate any help.

  • IPhone locks up during the backup stage of syncing

Something from my MacBook Pro is not allowing my iPhone to backup properly during a "Sync"!
I'm on my 3rd iPhone and the same problem keeps cropping up. I sync my contacts, calendars, bookmarks, email accounts and photos and it all goes fine. However, If I disconnect the iPhone after the initial sync and reconnect it, the iPhone will FREEZE/Lockup during the Backup phase of any subsequent sync. I have two iPhones one for personal and one for work. I hadn't sync'd the work one for a while and just tried it (it was still on 1.1.1, which I left it at) and the same thing happened. Now the work iPhone won't backup either without Freezing. If I just plug in my iPhone and have auto syncing disabled. I can make a change to one of my settings for example uncheck or recheck a calendar and the sync goes fine when I click the Apply button. However, if I click the Sync button (which does a backup first), the iPhone will freeze every time.
I have tried a restore (more than once and setup as a new phone) and all is fine until I put my data back on. What could be in my contacts, photos, calendars, email accounts or bookmarks that could be causing this? Other than freezing during backup, everything else works. I also sync my media (music, videos, ringtones, podcasts) with an iMac G5 and it won't backup the iPhone either. The problem happens after a restore/setup as new and first sync even before I put media back on the iPhone from the iMac, so it's not the media. It's something from my MacBook Pro that's going onto the iPhone and not being able to be read back in during the Backup.
    My setup is a MacBook Pro 15" 2.33GHz, Mac OS X 10.5.1, iTunes 7.6
    iPhone 1.1.3 AND iPhone 1.1.1
IPhone connected directly to the USB 2 port on the MBP AND directly to the USB port on the iMac G5 (different cables). No hubs.
    985 contacts
    4 email accounts (all IMAP)
    687 photos

Try restoring one of the iphones on you imac.
Once the iphone is restored and shows back up in itunes, do not restore from back up.
This would put any corrupt data back on the iphone.
Set the iphone up as a new iphone, but do not allow to auto sync everything.
First set iphone to only sync music and sync it a few times to see if issue persists.
If issue does not persist, move to videos and do the same thing.
Keep moving through the content that you like to sync on your imac, one group at a time to see if the back-up issue reoccurs.
If the iphone backs up and syncs fine on the imac, now move to the macbook.
On the macbook, try syncing contacts first.
Try syncing a few times to see if backup issue reoccurs.
If everything goes fine with contacts, move to bookmarks then to email.
    Leave calendars to the last.
If bookmarks and email sync fine then start syncing calendars, but do not sync all calendars.
Start with just one calendar and keep adding another one until the issue reoccurs.
Once the issue reoccurs, you know that the last thing you synced with is causing the issue.
The issue might not be with just one item, so if it happens, un sync the last item and skip over to see if the issue occurs again.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod Touch freezing during restore

I have a 16GB iPod Touch 2nd generation and I am trying to install OS 4.0 and it's been an absolute nightmare. I downloaded the new software (which took quite a while since it kept giving me an error which made me restart the download like 4 times).
So now I'm in the process of actually INSTALLING that software. When I plug my iPod Touch into iTunes it says it sees the iPod is in recovery mode and asks me to restore my ipod (the only option it is allowing me to access is the "Restore" button, so all the "Update" errors are out of the question here).
When I "restore" my iPod however, the process get's about 1/4 of the way through before it freezes and the progress indicator on my iPod AND the progress indicator in iTunes stays at the same place and doesn't move. Even after letting it sit ALL night last night (about 8 hours) it STILL hadn't moved when I woke up this morning.
Any suggestions on how I could fix this?

    I may have a solution...
I phoned Apple Support this evening around 7pm and they were really helpful. My ipod is at least back on - albeit with everything wiped - but it's currently resyncing.
They walked me through these steps:
    1. Quit iTunes (Force Quit if you have to)
    2. Disconnect the ipod from your computer
    3. Create a new user account (I named mine Dummy)
    4. Log out and log in to the new User account
    5. Press and hold the power button on the iPod to turn the thing off - if it doesn't go off, then press the home button briefly as well so that it does.
    6. Open iTunes
    7. reconnect the iPod to your computer and once the usb cable is inserted fully, press the home button on the ipod to switch it on
    8. iTunes should detect the iPod and offer to restore it. Accept the restore option.
    9. iTunes will download the software (took about 10 minutes for me - 315Gb) and then you need to follow the instructions and accept the software license agreement.
    10. In iTunes, you should see the "restoring iPod Software", "verifying iPod software", etc and once done your iPod should run good as new.
Safely disconnect the iPod (make sure you eject it first), log out of the dummy account and back into your regular one. Open iTunes, reconnect your iPod and iTunes should start to restore the iPod from the backup made earlier.
Be patient with that last one if you've got a lot of data backed up!
I really hope this helps others - my backup restoration still hasn't finished yet, but it's looking promising. I performed all this on a MacBook Pro, but from the way the support lady kept thinking I was running Windoze, I guess the same process will work in that OS too.
Oh - and phoning Apple support didn't cost me a penny despite being well outside the 90 days... in fact, because I'd never called them before, they granted me a 45 day warranty and offered me the option of taking out an extended 12 months too (for £39). I haven't taken them up on that yet, but seriously thinking about it - seems cheaper than buying a new iPod...
    Peace

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • How to reset a forgotten password on an ipod touch without using the computer it was synced to?

My friend has this ipod touch 4gen and she no longer has the laptop itunes was on. So she sent me on a mission to reset the ipod she has now forgotten the password to. When i plug it into my computer it says "itunes cannot connect while device is locked. please unlock" or something like that. uhm... only problem is the reason why im plugging it in is to RESET THE **** THING BECAUSE SHE FORGOT THE PASSWORD. im obviously frustrated. So seriously, there has to be some way to get this thing to reset without putting in the password that no one knows into it. Help? im not a computer tech in the first place.

    You have to restore it.

  • How do I unlock a disabled iPod Touch without having the last computer it synced with, without restoring, but knowing the password?

Hello, I have a disabled iPod touch that was taken from me by a family member, but then retreived by me. Said family member had tried the passcode lock so many times they disabled my ipod. We recently threw out one of our laptops which was so old it crashed for good. This was the last compter it synced with. I know the password to my iPod, but am unable to unlock it because it is disabled, and my laptop is not the last that my iPod synced with. I do not wish for my iPod to be restored, because i have important notes in the iPod that are too important to delete. What shall I do?

If the iPod will be undisabled after the stated period of time you can wait that long. However, you may have to wait a long, long, long time. Otherwise wyou will have to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore.  The screen lock is a good security feature.

  • Ipod Touch Stuck on the Apple reboot screen, please help!

Ok, So I was using my ipod touch. Actually I was downloading something as well as deleting some pictures of my ipod.
Eventually it froze up so I had to put it on reboot mode. So after about half an hour I started to notice that it had lasted way longer than usual, however I let it continue for another hour until the battery ran out. Even after the battery ran out and I plugged it into my computer it stays on the apple screen and therefore my iTunes refuses to recognize my iPod.
    What can I Do?
    P.S.
At times it acts like it is ab out to finally fix itself yet it just goes to black and then back to the apple screen.
I even left it charging all night and it was still in the same screeen. The only time it changes is to show me that it is out of battery

I have that exact same problem! However in my case I was trying to update my apps at my friends' house and suddenly my ipod touch rebooted and now I can't touch it because it reboots every time it goes to the 'unlock' page. Please if anyone can help..please please help.

  • IPod Touch freezes during restore

Last night I was on the Maps app (the one that came w/ the iPod) and I was typing in an address then my iPod(2g) flashed a white screen on me and got stuck in an infinite reboot loop (boots up w/ the apple, then flashes a white screen, then reboots). Then I tried restarting it manually and it didn't work. I did the thing where you force into the screen w/ the usb cable into the itunes icon (DFU mode?). I tried restoring it and waited for 3.1.3 to download (I was running 3.1.2 i think) and it was working until it showed the apple w/ an empty loading bar. I unplugged it and replugged it and it didn't do anything so I guess it froze. I put it back into DFU mode(?) and keep trying to restore it, but every time I keep getting a frozen ipod w/ the apple and a frozen "spinning" circle and my itunes giving me the 1603 error. I tried a lot of solutions from the internet like restoring to a previous version, that doesn't work. I tried Apple's troubleshoot page too. My warranty is also over, so... Any thoughts?

When you installed Leopard, did you do a Clean "Archive" install or an upgrade? If you did an upgrade, you may want to consider backing up all of your files and then doing a clean install of Leopard. That usually fixes issues with programs crashing/freezing.
Before you try a clean install of Leopard though, have you tried just reinstalling iTunes?
