My iPod Touch [gen 3] battery suddenly is lasting less than an hour.

I've had my iPod since the summer of 2010.  It's worked fine up until the last week or so.  My original cord's white covering started to fray and you can see the silver wire protection, so I bought a new one.  That one worked fine, but then it started giving me a screen on my iPod that said "Charging is not compatible with this accessory."  And about three months ago, that cord just stopped working all together.  So, I switched back to my original after putting electrical tape on it and it charges with no problem now.  Well, now it's three months later and my iPod is suddenly only holding a charge for less than an hour.  I put it on the charger when I go to bed, and take it off when I wake up.  The only other time it goes on my charger is when it dies suddenly, or if I'm listening to it in my car because it charges it automatically when I plug it in through the USB cord to my CD player in my car.  But, I'm really ticked off that it's already breaking because it's only 2 years old, and I can't afford another one.
Does anyone know what could possibly be making my iPod die so fast?  I have notifications turned off of most of my apps, the only exception is Draw Something, Facebook, and Words With Friends.  I have my brightness at the medium setting.  And I've deleted a lot of apps this morning in case that was the problem.  I don't listen to music that often on it, when I do it's when I plug it into my car.  I mostly play games and stuff, but I took it off the charger an hour and fifteen minutes ago, and within 45 minutes I got the notification that I had 20% battery left.

1. Check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
2. If not, follow these instructions.
3. You can also try resetting the SMC.
4. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
5. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • The battery of my MBA 13 "mid 2011 is lasting less than two hours after installing the Mountain Lion. Would be the OS or apps consumed much?

My MBA is consuming the battery in less than two hours after I installed Lion Mountain. The update has already been done for some time. The problem of consumption would be the same OS, according to several complaints, or were inadequately apps consuming battery?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • When I bought an iPod touch 4G, the service coverage limits was less than 12 months

Recently, I bought an iPod touch 4G 8GB model from a local apple store. I went home and checked the serial number and I found out that the guarantee time left was about 6 months (it said it was to expired on 2 January 2013, but I purchased it yesterday). I don't even opened the seal yet. I called the seller, and he told me to register my product after opening the seal. But I'm afraid to doso by myself because I thought he would just blame me that I blew the guarantee time myself by whatever way or means.
Now, I want to ask anybody. Does this matter is normal for all new purchases of iPod touch ?

I've checked the website you mentioned and that's where I put in the SN. However, this is what showed up.
I bought it not from an authorized seller but this store had quite good reputation for selling apple product in Indonesia. I bought the product on 2 August 2012 (2 days ago). I'm not sure if the store would sold me a used one but the case was still sealed. But I noticed that the PN was MD057ZP which is different from my other iDevice that had ID instead of ZP. When I tried to register the product, this what happens
(it said that my product had been registered with another ID)

  • IPod Touch Gen 5 battery question

I recently traded in my xBox 360 at GameStop, and had a bunch of store credit. Checked online and they were selling used Touchs for a good price, so I used the credit for that since I've wanted one for some time. Got it on Tuesday, and the thing looks brand new... no scratches front or back.
I have heard the battery is an issue on these since iOS 7. I have a Gen 4 iPad with iOS 7, and by experimenting turning off features I don't need, I am happy with the battery life on that device. I made similar configuration changes to the Touch, but in the few days I've had it, the Touch seems to have much shorter battery life. For example:
    - charged it to full, left it on standby overnight, and woke up to 90% battery this morning
    - watched movies stored on it from the 90% charge this morning, and got about 2.5 to 3 hrs of playback
    - yesterday I watched tv shows streaming from my Mini over wifi, and got just over an hour of playback from a full charge.
I have 7 days to send it back if I'm not satisfied, so by next Monday I need to make a decision. I could order a refurb from Apple for the same price. I have bought used iPods from GameStop before, and generally happy with them, but never one this expensive.  Also, I have owned several different Touch models over the years... Gen 1, 3, and just recently sold a Gen 4.  I have never had what I would consider poor battery performance on any prior model.
Anyone have experience with Gen 5 Touch's and iOS 7 so I can have something to compare my results?  Other than apps that estimate remaining charge length, are there any apps that test battery health (similar to several apps that test laptop battery health by showing number of cycles and that sort of information)?
    TIA

Hello, don't know if it's the norm but this is what I seem to be getting with my iPod 5 running IOS 7.0.4. Standby about 36 to 40 hours. Just listening to music from my library at least 22 hours. Anything using Wi-Fi (you tube, playing around on the web, watching movies / videos, etc) 6 to 9 hours. Gaming really pulls the battery down fast 3 to 4 hours. Hope this helps, Good luck.

  • My ipod nano 8th gen's battery can't last more than a day. What's wrong with it?

Had my 8th gen nano for almost a year. It used to have decent charge for days because I only use it sparingly as a music player. I do use it as a watch with a TikTok but I unlock the screen only once in a while to see the time. Now the battery drains ridiculously fast in 1 day. Even with the screen off for most of the time, the next time I check the time/wake up the screen, battery gets drain by huge chunks. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Yes, notifications are part of the problem.  For more information look at at the previous posts on this problem.  Yu can find some of those on the right hand side of this page under the heading: More Like This.  I keep mine in airplane mode when asleep.

  • I've got a problem to load my iPod Software Update IOS 5 in iTunes. It's a iPod Touch gen. 3 and the last few updates iTunes wasn't able to load either. Can someone please help me? :)

    P.S. I've got a Windows PC.

    Hi
    Welcome to the real world!
Apple software ***** and have done that for a long time. Its unbeliveable that we all time after time will pay so much for all these problems.
I have also an iTouch 3g and and a Philips DMP 580 speaker with dockstation. And my 3g worked perfekt with iOS 4.3.5 in the dockingstation until today where I upgraded to iOS 5.0.
After that I can´t I powerload or use the speakers in the musicsystem anymore.
How can anyone release such a OS if they know anything about programming OS software ?
Its completely madness that we have to spend so much time on something that should have been OK when released :-(
And now I can´t return to my latest iOS 4.3.5 anymore and I can´t find anywhere someone that can tell me how to do downgrade iOS 5.0 to iOS 4.3.5 - if possible !!!
All that just to tell you "that you are not alone"
    Frienly regards

  • Battery lasts less than 3 hours

So I have had my blackberry for a bit over a year now. And it was all working fine until a couple of days ago.
Now the battery only seems to last for about 2.5hours, from being 100% to shutting off because of low battery. I havent got applications running in the background, and have read and followed all of the maximise battery life posts.
I used to be able to leave it for a day or more with it being fine.
What can I do to solve this, as it is really inconveniencing my life at the moment, because it just isnt staying on long enough for me to do anything.
If this is any help, I am on Orange.
and its  a blackberry curve 8250 and the battery says 'capacity 1150mAh' and C-S2.
    HELP!
    Thanks

Replace the battery, I don't think BlackBerry will supply them but they're all over Amazon and eBay for as little as £1.50.
Let it completely shut down from full for the first 10 or so charges to help strengthen its life. Should last at least all day with this.
Try and avoid leaving it on charge when its 100% too.

Ipod touch has bad battery and suddenly turns off but only works when its on a dock with speaker...
any advice on what to do, because i am thining of getting the battery replace

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You iPod is broken. It appears it is more than the screen and maybe more than the battery.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for a 64 GB on and $99 for the others. They do not fix yours.
