My iPod touch is messing up. May be a virus

My iPod touch 4th generation is a year old and just recently started messing up. it selects things on its own and sometimes or in certain areas won't respond to my touch

iOS devices do not get Viruses...
The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
Try a Reset...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
Restart / Reset

I just purchased an iPod Touch 5 for my brother for Xmas.  Can I transfer music from my computer to the iPod Touch without messing it up for him when he plugs it into his computer for the 1st time?  Dave

No since you can only sync with one computer.
    To switch syncing computers:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities

  • Last ipod touch update messed up my album covers

The last Ipod touch update has messed up my album covers of songs I transfered from CD. a long time ago after purchasing my ipod I learnt how I could change the artwork from a boring musical note to the respected album covers the songs came from and this method no longer works.
Although I should share that method which was to basically click on the first song on the album (for example "Come Together" on Abbey Road) and then hold ctrl and hit the last song on the album (in Abbey Road case it is "Her Majesty") thus highlighting the all the songs on the album and then changing the artwork there. As stated this method no longer works, I've tryed about 3 times and although it fixed a few songs (about 6 out of the 150ish that were altered back to default after the update).
Is there anyway to change it because I have a mild OCD that makes me want to see the artwork upon it changing songs as I use my ipod on a daily basis.
Other infomation that may assist in answers:
-The album artwork does indeed show on the album list screen, just not on most songs upon playing them
-All the songs that the album artwork altered during the update were purchased by other means to Itunes and then transfered to itunes. (CDs in this particular case)
-There all albums apart of the Beatles Box Set that I was luckily gifted at christmas.
-The Ipod touch, I believe its the latest one, it has the two cameras on it, not sure I don't follow up with the "improved" versions of Apple products
-My itunes is running on a PC (masterrace) not Mac.
Thank you if you answered responsibily, and if you responded like a tool then I dislike you.

  • My iPod Touch is messed up!!! Something is REALLY wrong!

Last night, I had no problem at all, whatsoever. This morning, I was on the bus, and it was working fine, UNTIL I arrived at the school. It was slowing down and it froze!
That is not my problem. What I am going through is a huge predicament. It comes in various problems.
    1) It starts with the Apple Logo Icon and stays like that forever. After literally twenty minutes, I hold the power and home buttons for a few seconds, then let go. SOMETIMES it brings me to the screen with the gray slider thingy. BUT it then freezes, and if I keep trying to unfreeze it too many times, it STAYS frozen until I reset my iPod. THEN IT ALL REPEATS AGAIN!!!
Also! If I leave the logo screen alone, a loading thing appears in the middle of the screen and after a few minutes, my iPod resets and it still repeats AGAIN!!!
    2) ANY TIME I PRESS THE POWER BUTTON, MY iPOD FREEZES!!!
    3) MY iPOD FREEZES WHEN I TRY TO PLAY MUSIC!!!
    4) When my iPod is plugged-in to the computer, it DOES appear on iTunes. But when it resets itself after a period of time, it interrupts a syncing process...! AND MAKES THE COMPUTER ACT LIKE THE iPOD ISN'T PLUGGED-IN! Then, after a while, it reappears in iTunes and everything repeats again!!!!!
    5) I restored my iPod, and it still happening!
    6) Even after I updated my iPod, I am still having this problem!!
    7) Whenever I manage to unlock my iPod, it automatically freezes!!!!!
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tried everything!!!!!!!! I want my iPod Touch back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh! I also have a small question... does the salt for melting snow and ice ruin electronic devices? I dropped my headphones in salt Saturday night, and on Sunday afternoon, I put my headphones back in.
Oh, and the headphones were cleaned after being dropped!

Since you've already done the "5 R's," your next option should be to visit your local Apple Store (should you have one) to have an expert check it out. If you're still under warranty, there shouldn't be a problem; if not, repairs might be your best option.
    Apple's advice: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1394
Salt and electronics - not a good mix. If you cleaned your headphones, and thoroughly, you've minimized any chance of potential damage.

  • I need help!!! My iPod touch is messed up I charge it but then when I go to turn it on it shows the apple then a loading circle then the screen turns white and says it isn't charged is there anyway I myself could fix it?

    Plz help

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch is messed up, please help!

I had to restore my ipod touch about 5 times now, because it went into recovory mode, and the screen didnt turn on one time, with a fully charged battery. I am not impressed with the softare for my ipod touch, when i updated it, itunes did not recognize my ipod, but my XP pro did. so i unloaded my ipod software to the 1.1.2 vesion and it worked fine. My new problem is that my ipod will be running for a day on a full battery, but then the next day, it says the battery needs to be charged. This happend twice. i think for $300 dollars, this thing should be better, way better. not impressed, mabye the last time i will buy an apple product. Anyone with the same problems or and answer?

Next try the remaining items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

  • My 3rd gen. 32gb iPod touch was messed up by an iPad2!?!

My iPod touch 3rd generation 32gb was sitting next to my bed. My mom set her iPad2, which is synced to her iTunes, started glowing and so did my iPod. Then when I was trying to update my dictionary app., it said that my mom was logged in and needed her password. I logged in, logged out, restarted the thing, then when all failed restored it. I used the iCloud back up thing, which did not help, o I restored it as a new device, now I have apps that I delted a year ago and no music, I had 12.3gb of music, I NEED IT =_(! HELP APPLE PEOPLE, or somebody... Buy the way I did think to do both WiFi and USB sync, both failed.. =/ help me please, I don't like being mad at Apple Products.

I woke up this morning and did what you said...It WORKED! I rebooted the thing and then plugged the USB into iTunes and dragged the music, then it just started loading it all back on. You're a life saver!

  • If  my ipod touch 4 gwas stolen  may apple or i do something for recovering my ipod ??????????

i wasn't able to see who stole i am desesperate plese help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • Ipod touch acting possessed! Almost like a virus. Auto selects letters, apps, etc. Doesnt let me slide bar until 4th attempt of more.

My Ipod has been acting funny. First, I have a hard time using the slide bar to get into the first page. After 5 tries it lets me slide and enter. Then the ipod auto selections apps such as 'notes' app and will type random letters without me touching screen. Then if I try typing it will let me type most letters except 'n' and 'o' I have tried resetting and system restore to old backup as well as to new ipod. Nothing working.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen. iOS 5.1.1 - Sleep Mode and Other Questions

    Hello,
I have an iPod Touch 4th generation with iOS 5.1.1
    1) RE: Sleep Mode - I found this on another thread and it's regarding iOS 4.3.1.
Is the same still true for iOS 5.1.1?
If so, what is recommended for sleep mode - Airplane mode or Wi-Fi off - or is either one ok?
Wi-Fi is always ON with the 4th generation model running 4.3.1 when it is sleeping unless you either turn off the Wi-Fi or turn Airplane mode ON.
    2)  I only use my iPod Touch on my home Wi-Fi and do not use any cloud based syncing or iTunes Wi-Fi Sync.  I do all my syncing manually from my MacBook Pro via USB to the iPod Touch.  The way I do things is purchase what I need from my MacBook Pro via iTunes and then manually sync it to the iPod Touch.  But there may be times, in the future, where I would want to purchase directly from the iPod Touch.
I recently updated my AppleID with my new email address via my MacBook Pro.  But, I noticed that on my iPod Touch under "Settings" "Store" that it still shows my old AppleID.  I have all Automatic Downloads set to OFF.  How do I update the iPod Touch to reflect my new AppleID?
    3) When I'm using Safari and I navigate to several websites, how do I easily get back to my home page (which is set to Yahoo!)?
Probably a dumb question but I can't seem to figure it out.  I've set Yahoo! to my homepage but I would think there should be or is (and can't find it) a button/icon like on my MacBook Pro Safari to take me directly back to the homepage.
Thanks in advance for the help!

    - Unless you use bluetooth, airplane mode and wifi off are the same as regards to battery drain. I like use airplane mode sinc that is directly under Settings.
    - Go to Settngs>Store and sign out of existing account and sign in with the updated one
    - I have no idea for the Safari question

  • IPod Touch applications no longer compatible? What is going on?

What happened, all apps used to install into my ipod Touch which I installed on my iPhone 3g. Now slowly, an app at a time is starting to become incompatible and not allowing installation....although it can use the wifi.
    These are the apps.
    AirMe
    Everytrail
    Flutter
    Gources
    GreenFinder
    Loopt
    PanoLab
    TextLater
    Whitepages
    Wikime
    Yelp
I know that some of these apps are location base but with wifi, some of these apps should work.
Is anyone getting the same issues?

Several of those apps, when I check them on the iTunes App Store, state "Compatible with iPhone," not "Compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch."
Seems there may be updated versions of the apps that are not Touch-compatible, or it may be that in iTunes 8/v2.1 there is now a compatibility check.

  • Ipod touch erased all user data. Music, Apps, and Pics

Might have a good one for you guys...I work at a local electronics store and a customer came in with an Ipod touch that they claimed to have a "virus".  I am aware that Apple products are not prone to viruses (I've never witnessed one before) however I went along with it to hear what the issue was.  When using the Ipod Touch, after turning the screen off for a little while, the ipod restarted but there was absolutly no content on the device. Music was wiped, pictures were wiped, and apps icons will still present, but when selected they did nothing.  I recommended doing the recovery option by connecting the Ipod to the origional computer it was first synced with, but they tried that and the computer does not register the device.  The customer said they contacted the retailor because they purchased an exteneded warranty through them, but it doesn't cover software issues apparently.  They contacted Apple support and Apple said their 1yr warranty does not cover software issues, but for $200 they can push an antivirus to the device (I was present during the phone call, which was on speaker phone).  The customer is fairly upset about the situation, and rightfully so.  I just took it on as a side project just to help them out as they have done a lot of local business with us and I'd like to help them out if I can.
This is where you guys come in.  Not knowing exactly what was done to the Ipod doesn't give me a starting point for any tips or tricks that may exist, but I'd like to just run it over with you guys to be sure I'm not going on a while goose chase. Any help or recommendations would be welcome!
    Thanks again guys!

That does not make sense. The warranty covers defects in hardware and software.

  • Connecting and syncing new iPod Touch to iTunes v10.1

I have several downloaded albums from the iTunes Store, along with some ripped cd's, and some downloaded albums that have been imported into iTunes, along with about 100 apps. I did have many of the albums on my previous iPod Nano 8gb, but in preparation for my iPod Touch 32gb 3g, I downloaded many free iPod apps, and bought a few.
Now, I forget all the things I checked in iTunes, but know it's set now to only sync on command, not automatically. When I connect the new iPod Touch 32gb 3g, I may also need to update the iOS to 4.2 also. First, can I do the iOS update with iTunes set to manual sync? Next, what options need to be set in iTunes to a)let this happen, and b)allow me to either manually or automatically sync my new iPod?
I realize now that when I do sync the new Touch, with that many apps (over 100) it might take a minute or two.

Just what version of iTunes do you have? For a 5G iPod/iOS 7 you need iTunes 11.1 or later.. If you have a Mac yo need OSX 10.6.8 or later.
Does the iTunes still see the 4G iPod?
    If necessary:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    Or
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • Connect Ipod Touch to Mini Mac

Is it possable to use the mini mac as a gate way for my iPod touch using the bluetooth, as sadly I have no wirless internet and still want to connect through my ipod to update the emails I get? Also, may be a stupid question but can the itouch have the iphone OS on it as the apple website suggests that it can?

    Shadow of Nex wrote:

no. that is not a feature the iPod Touch supports.
Also, may be a stupid question but can the itouch have the iphone OS on it as the apple website suggests that it can?
yes. in fact it does. naturally, some features of the iPhone are not available on the Touch due to partially different hardware (e.g. the mobile telephony feature).

  • Ii have a ipod touch but cant get any apps onto it from the computer through itunes anyone know how?

i have a ipod touch with 8gb.. ive plug it into itunes and have the apps i want in a tab but they wont even click and drag onto my ipod touch.. i havent even got apps store on my ipod can any1 help?

It appears that you have a first generation (1G) iPod and you need to update the iOS to get the apps store and to allow you to use most of the app in the app store.
    To identify your iPod:
    Identifying iPod models
To purchasce iOS 3.1.3, the latest iOS for the 1G iPod:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
You may have to use a different browser to get the sublink to work correctly.
Or you could have restrictions set on your iPod that is preventing installing apps and from the App Store app from showing on the iPod.  To check go to Settings>General>Restrictions.
