My ipod touch is not seeking updates.

I plug my iPod Touch in my PC, it syncs with iTunes (the new version) but when I will get the new update (IOS 4.3.1) warns that he has no update, and my version (4.2.1 ) Is the current version.
Can anyone help me?
I wanted to upgrade it.

2nd generation models do not go beyond the 4.2.1 iOS software.
You would need a 3rd or 4th generation model to get the new 4.3.1 iOS software.
Look on the back of your iPod Touch for one of these numbers which will let you know what generation model you have.

iPod Touch 3rd generation - A1318
iPod Touch 4th generation - A1367

Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem
However, Apple does not report any problems

It won't give me the option to sign out of the old account, it's that light grey color that you can't click on. And since it has the old email address that it's telling me to go into to verify the account, I can't actually change it... I'm stuck

As said in the question, my ipod touch will not connect to the newest version of itunes. When I plug it in, my compter recognizes that a device has been connected, yet it will not show up in itunes. I didn't have this problem until I just updated to the new itunes. Someone help please!

Does it happen with the apps that came with the iPod?
Does it happen with all apps you have downloaded/installed?
Have you ried deleting the apps and redownload/install the apps? You will not be charged again if you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
Next would be to restore from backup
Last would be to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

Ok this is getting really annoying. I have tried to update my Ipod touch and I keep getting the same message: The iPod "xxx " Could not be updated. This device isn't eligible for the requested build. The software update is also taking forever on iPod, it says it will take 49 hours. Should it take that long? I have tried resetting, turning on and off, making date and time right etc. the first day we got the iPod touch the app store worked but not since.

This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. in that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

My ipod touch will not let me update to the most current software or even restore my ipod to factory settings. It will let me download, but when it is done and ready to install I get a message "There was a problem downloading the ipod software. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." Does anyone know what this means? I never seemed to have a problem until I downloaded that January update a few months ago.
I even tried reinstalling itunes but that did not help. Any help or suggestions are appreciated

Error 11 is a strange one...if you search the discussions for error 11 you will get a number of hits but none with a real resolution other than getting the iPod to restore, which you have done. And one person indicates this does not appear in the support data base...already found that out.
If you have restored, have a backup and can restore from that, you might try the update again, or wait for the next update whenever that comes out.
Not a very satisfactory answer but if it is working again...
