My iPod touch isn't recognized by iTunes, but it is recognized by Windows.

I'm using Windows 8 and it worked okay for a while. I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes without success.  It works fine on my other computer (desktop Windows 7). Thanks for any suggestions

Thanks for quick response. After I did the post I kept looking and stumbled upon the site you refer to. I tried a variety of things such as stoping and starting AMDS, re-installing iTunes etc. etc. Finally what I did was remove every vestige of  Apple software, restarting the computer and re-installing iTunes. I was very pleased with the result as not only does it now see my iPod but my library is totally intact including playlists, so no re-building required.
The link that species these procedures is below.

  • Ipod Touch is'nt recognized in Windows or Itunes

Hello, my Problem is that my Ipod Touch isn't Recognized in Windows or Itunes on my PC, on a Friends PC it works fine, so u guess the Ipod is ok..
    1. I tried everything Restarted Apple Mobile Device Service and reinstalled
    2. Reinstalled Itunes
    3. Reinstalled Windows
    4. Other USB Ports
    5. Recovery Mode (In Recovery Mode the Ipod is recognized but can't Restore because bevore it Restores completly it gets automaticly disconnected and does'nt connect again)
I Restored my Ipod at the PC from my Friend, but it still doesn't work here.
The USB Ports also can't be the Problem, since all other USB Devices work fine. And the Ipod Touch worked fine as well till a few Days ago.
    Every Help is appreciated.

    Hi,
What's the make and model of the PC? Is it a desktop or laptop PC?
Make sure the iPod touch is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the PC. The tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 will help rule out USB connection issues.
What security software is running on the PC?
If you haven't already, try to reconfigure, update, or uninstall the security software, as suggested here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125.
Also, this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852 provides general tips that will resolve most issues that prevent the iPhone from being recognized by iTunes.

  • TS1538 My iPod Touch isn't recognized in itunes.

My ipod touch isn't recognised in iTunes on the computer I always use to sync music onto it. (I can't see "Omar's iPod" in the left column.)
When I plug it in and I open up iTunes, the device isn't shown.
However, the device is shown in My Computer.
When I plug it into other computers, iTunes recognises my device. (I can see "Omar's iPod" in the left column.)
I've tried every method, except for Recovery Mode because I don't want to lose any of the files on my iPod.
I've done every method in the Apple trouble shooting manuals.
I need iTunes to recognise my device, help please.

Your Touch is working correctly. Currently, without unsupported third party hacks, the Touch has NO disc mode. It will only show up in iTunes.
how do i put programes and games in my ipod touch
Right now, you don't. The SDK is scheduled to be released in Feburary. Then developers will be able to write programs that will be loadable.

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Ipod touch isn't recognized on my machine but is on my other pc   :o(

I have been unable to get my Windows XP service pack 3 machine to recognize my ipod touch since 12/24. Prior to that I've successfully linked and synced since May. I've tried all the solutions mentioned on the Apple site several times including unistalling and reinstalling itunes, trying all my different USB 2.0 ports, powering ipod and pc down and back up again, resetting my ipod and so on. I've unplugged all other usb devices and tried it. I also have a firewire port and it doesn't work there either. (It had previously) I've stopped and started my Apple Mobile Device services and watched as the Apple Mobile Device USB driver activates as soon as I plug my ipod into a USB port. What happens then is that Windows reports that "An iPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again." A dozen times later it's still saying the same thing. (For a time Windows thought it was a camera, but somewhere I found how to turn that off.)
What's wierd is that my old ipod and itunes get along fine when I plug that one into the same USB port on my PC. iTunes identifies the old iPod and it syncs perfectly.
Also wierd is if I connect my new ipod touch to my wife's PC, itunes and the ipod touch sync successfully as well.
I've gone so far to reinstall Windows to a version in October, back when my ipod touch was working perfectly but still no luck.
I don't know the fix but as far as I can tell my Windows XP machine is unable to identify the ipod touch but it has no problem identifying my older ipod.
Does anyone have anything they could suggest? I'm going through ipod withdrawl!

  • My ipod touch 4th gen works on itunes but not show on windows do i need a driver?

When first time i connect my ipod touch says that the driver for this hardware did not pass windows logo test so i did not installed, and now i need the driver so windows can use it as a storage device anybody knows where or how to get that driver back. helpppp.

iPod Touches do not have a disk mode.  However, you can se the iPod in Windows explorer in order to move photos from the iPod to your computer.  You probably need to reinstall iTunes and install the unsigned driver.

  • IPod touch isn't recognized by iTunes

My iPod Touch 4th gen is exactly a year old. Today I tried to plug it into iTunes but it was not recognized. Not only was the iPod not connecting to iTunes, but it was not charging either. It is not the computer, I have tried both of my macs. It is not the cord, I have tried two different cables which don't work. I have tried both cables on my old iPod nano and they work fine. In addition the cables work when charging the iPod touch through a wall charger. I'm thinking the problem here is the iPod...? Please help me out!!!

    - Try resetting the iPOd,
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Next try placing the iPod in recovery mode nd then restore vi iTunes.  Noe that if iTunes does not see the iPod the iPod will not work. For recovery mode:

  • My Ipod Touch isn't recognized by Itunes or Windows. (using Vista) I have tried Apple's reinstall, it didn't work.

I have tried Apple's reinstall, it didn't work. There aren't any other devices in any USB port. Using the same USB connectorcable and port, my computer and iTunes will recognize my friends exact same model of iPod touch (4 gen). Any help? It is a new iPod, never before connected to any computer.

Yu can try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then try restoring via iTunes. The problem is that if you can't restore your iPod may be bricked
Next would be to try DFU mode. this may also brick your iPod if it can't be restored.
