My IPOD touch loads as camera and is not recognised to sync to my itunes library

I have tried reloading and updating my itunes, using differant ports and deactivating and reacctivating the Apple mobile device in my services section. nothing has worked. HOw can I fix this? Thanks

I would start with
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Have your tried a different cable?
Does the iPod charge?
Does the iPod work?
Try on another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.

    The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
    It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer for just such an occasion.  use your backup copy to put everything back.

    I presume you mean to say that the iPad is not being recognised in iTunes! If so,
    Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
    Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
    Thirdly, make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
    Fourthly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.

    As I have seen on the community many people are having the same problem as I am. My ipod touch 2nd generation shows up in my computer as a camera (not that it has a camera anyway) but also it will not show up in my itunes library. I have read many of the previous answers and discussions and I have tried uninstalling itunes several times ( all of it itunes, bonjour, quicktime etc ) and reinstalling several times... I have shut down all my firewalls....I have changed start up settings...I even tried trying a secondary comuter thinking it was my computer...but NOTHING has helped this. I have also tried several other programs (such as Wi-Fi Discover ) just so I can try to download some songs for my son but again NOTHING. Can anyone please, please help me. This was a christmas gift for my son and he is so upset that he can not load any songs. Thank you in advance for anyone that can guide me in the right direction.

    - You can try placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if iTunes will see it.  However, that will render the iPod unusable unless you are able th restore via iTunes. For recovery mode see:

But when I try to update my apps or download new software/music my old apple ID comes up and I can't change it. On the itunes store and my settings it shows my new Apple account. How do I stop from my old account from coming up and my new account appearing when I try to download something new?

    - To change ID go to Settings>Store and sign out and sign in with the one you want. If you iPod has iOS 5 you may have to also go to Settings>iCloud and sign into the second account.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

    Make one final USB sync with the old iPod. The sync includes a backup. Then connect the new iPod to the same computer/iTunes library and restore from the backup of the old iPOd. All the synced media like apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media is not included in the backup that iTunes makes. For how to restore see:

    I loaded a new game and when I opened the game, my Ipod Touch froze as soon as the game started to boot. The touchscreen is unresponsive and the Ipod will not restart or re-set.     Hi, I just updated to IOS 5 on my Ipod touch 4G, and ever since then the music library (in the Ipod) is cleared out, and none of the apps work. It's like it didn't finish updating and transferring back the data to the Ipod. When I go to plug in the Ipod to my macbook, and bring up Itunes, the Itunes program freezes every single time, not allowing me to fix the problem. My Ipod will show up in the side bar of Itunes, with the circular arrows going for a little bit, then the arrows stop in the middle of the process... I go to click on anything in Itunes and immediately get the spinny flywheel on my screen, meaning itunes freezes, and I have to force quit the program everytime. I've tried rebooting my computer a few times, as well as restarting my Ipod, but nothing is working. The internet works on my Ipod, but anything music/app related is 'empty.'  I couldn't find anyone else on the net w the same problem, so I might have something unique~

    I would try restoring the iPod from backup.  If necessary, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:

    - Reset the iPod:
    Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
    button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - If still problem, connct the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes.
    - If itunes does not see the iPod, try placing the iPod in recovry mode and then retoring the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

    Yesterday, my ipod 3rd generation would not respond on the right hand side of the screen. I was told to 'put the ipod into recovery mode and then restore it', i have done this but it has just stayed on the connect to itunes picture on the screen. I have repeatedly tried to connect to itunes, the first few times it came up with 'error 1604' and after that now does not recognise the ipod at all.
    I have also changed the AMDS (or whatever its called) to automatic, but no change.
    If you need any other background information, just ask.

    Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
    If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
    Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
    Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
    Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
    iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
    If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
