My iPod touch needs to be activated and the screen is locked.

My iPod touch screen wasn't working so I turned it off. After I turn it on again it says "activation requiered". I went to the iTunes in my computer and try to activate it but then it says It was locked and I need it to enter the pass code, even thought I know my password I couldn't enter it because the iPod need an activation and the touch doesn't response.
I hope you really can help me i don't want to loss my iPod :(

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons and await restart. No content will be affected.

You are running into the activation lock.

You have to either enter the Apple/iCloud ID and password in order to activate the iPod for use. Or you can try to dissassociate the iPod for that account by:

If you can't do that you have a nice, thin but expensive brick

iOS 4.2.1 suggests that you may have 2nd generation Touch, which cannot be updated past iOS 4.2.1
Check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 for help in identifying your model. A quicker method may be to check the back casing. If your iPod has Model No.A 1288 etched into it, then it's a 2nd gen Touch.
Assuming that you are using the latest version of iTunes (today, that is 10.6.3), to check if your iPod can be updated, connect it to your iTunes and look on the Device/Summary pane. Select Check for Updates. If there is one, you will see a message telling you that and how to install it. However, if you see a message saying that your iPod is up-to-date, then it cannot be updated.

So you have tried connecting to open network that do not require a password and it was still unable to connect? If that is the case.
Does Wifi appear grayed out on your iPod via Settings -> Wi-fi?

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod? Press/hold the home and sleep/wake buttons down until the Apple logo appears.

My son's Ipod touch (5th generation) had lines across the screen. I turned it off using the home + on/off button reset, but the apple never came back on. Now it seems to be dead. Not dropped, not completely drained, no water damage. Just dead. Any ideas?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
