Hello there, LaruaGalliers.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great troubleshooting steps for your issue:
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
Particularly:
Battery does not charge
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
iPhone or iPod touch displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive
If you see the image below, charge the iPhone or iPod touch with USB power adapter for at least 15 minutes.
You should see this image when iPhone or iPod touch begins to charge:
If the screen still displays the low-battery icon, try turning the iPhone or iPod touch off and then on again.
If the issue persists, follow these troubleshooting steps.

My iphone shut off and I can't get it back on!
My iphone shut off and won't turn back on, even if connected to the charger. I see other responses have said to hold down the power and home buttons together. Where is the home (or sleep) button? I know where the power button is. Thanks
Flip the Vibrate/Mute switch on and off, does the iPhone Vibrate? If yes, then your iPhone is on and the screen is out. If no vibrate then try the following......
Leave your iPhone connected to the Wall Charger so the Battery can charge, which may be the problem. Then after at least 30 minutes, try to turn on your iPhone. You can push the Top (Power, On/Off, Sleep) button like normal. Or you could just unplug and then replug the charger or USB cable. Connecting iPhone is a way to turn it on. If this does not work you can hold at same time Both the Home button (the button at bottom of front screen) and the Power button (the top, on/off, sleep), hold both for about 15 seconds until the iPhone turns on. Holding both these buttons at same time is called a Reset.
If this does not revive your iPhone you will have to Restore the Firmware in iTunes. Open iTunes, press the Home Button and then connect your iPhone to the computer with the USB cable, keep holding the Home Button until the iTunes screen appears on your iPhone. When iTunes prompts you Restore the Firmware. -
when i am listening to my ipod touch and the screen is off then when i hit the home button the ipod just shuts off. also when it is in my pocket on but in sleep mode it will shut off for no reason. it just started doing this three days ago. it still plays music, movies and works but having it just shut off is really anoying what can i do to fix it?
Try reformatting it. Sounds like a software issue to me.

Hi,
I've had my iPod touch for a really long time and it recently starts to shut off or freezes all the time. There is always batteries in it and I am getting annoyed by restarting it all the time. Is there any way to fix this and will apple do anything about it because it is a old generation iPod touch. Thanks!Have you tried restoring to Factory Default (setup as new).

2nd Gen iPod Touch intermittent shut off and/or screen shots, blinking +
Hi - concerned, not very technical mom here, trying to help out my son. His iPod touch shuts off, goes to the front screen, takes screen shots, sometimes the touch works and sometimes it doesn't, it blinks, I am not sure what to do. Any and all very specific (remember not real techy mom here) suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.
-Helpful MomI've had this same problem. It ended up being a problem in the hardware. Your going to need to take it to a Apple Genius Bar. They will help you understand the problem better.

My iPod Touch randomly shut down and won't turn back on.
This has happened before so i know what to do, BUT, my main menu button has been broken for a month so I just shut down my iPod to get out of apps. But, now since it won't turn on and I can't reset it, how do I fix it?
Try:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Where it says place the iPod in recovery mode, use this program:

If not successful, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

my ipod got reallly hot and turned off but now it wont come back on.what do i do?
You can try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults./new iPod
However, from your description you like have a hardware issue and an appointment a the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
