My Ipod Touch's (5G) earpod controls have just stopped working, and device becomes warm/hot.

Hi. Yesterday my Ipod Touch's (5G) has suddenly stopped working with Apple's earpod controls. Furthermore when playing music with the screen off the device becomes warm or even hot, and the battery drains from a full charge to empty in about  4 or 5 hours. (This is with the screen turned off.) The near overheating happens during music playback whether using Apple's earpods or third party earbuds lacking inline controls. If I stop the music playback the device quickly cools off again.
I've checked the forums, but couldn't find anything that helps. Rebooted numerous times - it did not help. Cleaning earbud socket repeatedly and blowing out with airgun did not help. Tried two different sets of earbuds (both sets worked in another device), so it's not the earpods. Is something stuck, causing a short, negating the controls and leading to quick battery drain during music playback?

I can't think of anything being stuck in the hedphone jack causing the problem
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I have an iPod and an iPhone. I've gone threw two off brand chargers and they stopped working on me and have a black mark on them. Should I be considered about the mark, and should I get a charger made by Apple ?

What do yo mean by black mark?
Can you post a photo of the cable?
Frequently non-Apple cable are of poor quality and frequently fail.
Yes, get an Apple cable. I have been using the Lightning cable that came with my iPad 4 and 7G iPod Nano for over 2 and 1/2 years without problems

My iPod touch 4th generation charger just stopped working and I've only had it for about 2 or 3 months. Please help!!!

Then it should still be under warranty, so make an appointment at your local apple store and have them take a look at it.
If that's not a possibility and you want to troubleshoot, what do you mean by 'just stopped working'? What were you doing? Maybe some more info could help with troubleshooting.

  • HT1551 My remote for my Apple TV just stopped working and I have tried putting in a new battery, re-pairing the remote, resetting the device by unplugging it, and I checked the infared coming from the remote is working. The light just blinks at me 3 times

My remote for my Apple TV just stopped working and I have tried putting in a new battery, re-pairing the remote, resetting the device by unplugging it, and I checked the infared coming from the remote is working. The light just blinks at me 3 times what else can I try to fix it?

Have you tried unpairing the remote? You do this by pointing your remote at the Apple TV and holding the MENU and Left buttons down together for 6 seconds.

My 2nd Gen Apple TV seems to have just stopped working with Youtube. Is there a particular reason this has happened ?  All of the other services work correctly.

Apple already have a position on such matters. If you have a problem with one particular service and not others, contact the provider.

However, 3 similar reports, do not a problem make. Perhaps there is a problem, perhaps there isn't, but it really doesn't seem to affect many people if there is, believe me when there is a problem it's quite obvious from the additional traffic it causes in these communities. It's also not exactly clear that you are all seeing exactly the same thing.

  • None of the apps on my 5th Generation iPod Touch will open. I have tried a restore and backup but to no avail. What should I do next?

Try restoring to factory settings (not from backup) and redownloading your content.

  • IPod Touch 5th generation front-facing camera has stopped working

After updating to ios 7, my front-facing camera has stopped working on my ipod touch 5th generation. I have tried doing a full restore to factory settings, resetting data settings, turning it on and off, and all the basic things. Here are a few pictures:
This is with the rear-facing camera, it works just fine.
Now this is the front-facing camera:
When i try to use the front-facing camera, the screen goes like this and the camera app freezes, i can't switch back to read camera or anything. Other applications like snapchat don't have a button to switch the camera.
It's like the camera app is detecting that the version of ipod has a camera, but it can't seem to find it. Btw, i live in Australia and am an apple developer.
I like srsly need to get my front camera working. Thanks
I am also using iOS 7.1 beta.

Likely a hardware problem as other has experienced the same problem

I unplugged my iPod Classic without ejecting it first. It played for many hours(about 8) after that but then suddenly stopped working and it has a blackend screen that seems to say paused. Wondering if there is a way to get it to work again.

    Hey hughborg25,
I found an article that can help you troubleshoot when an iPod becomes unresponsive or the screen goes black:
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
I would go through all the steps listed there, and the issue should be resolved by the end.

  • My battery on my ipod touch keeps draining.  i have updated in itunes and turned off wifi....can anyone help??

My battery life on my ipod touch used to last for days if i wasnt using it.  I have updated from itunes recently and my battery is draining in hours.  i have switched off wifi and this has not helped.  i also turned off notifications as well.  can anyone help

Did you already reset your device by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Also try to delete the mail account in case you're using push/fetch to get your mail. There have been cases in which mail didn't stop connecting to the server, causing the battery drain.

  • What do I do with my iPod Touch 4g when the home button does not work and when I plug it in to charge it always says that charging is not avaible with this accesory?

iPod Touch 4g home button won't work plus will not charge properly

Take it to a reputable third-party repair shop. Apple will not touch it after you have opened it up and tinkered with the works.

  • TS5192 After updating with 4.09 my photos which I store on an external hard drive will load into Aperture for 15 or so photos and then I just get the same photo repeating despite clicking on a different one in the group.  I have to stop working and come b

After installing the 4.09 fix to process RAW from Sony RX100 (after updating to 3.5.1), photos do not continue to load into Aperture from the external hard drive where they are referenced.  The same photo is stuck in the adjustments frame to be worked on and the photos will not advance, no matter what I try, so i can work on the next one.  I can only work on a few at a time and then i have to go away and come back another day.  4.09 does fix the barrel distortion but it has completely gummed up the uploading of the referenced photos.  It's taking me days and weeks to process a couple of hundred photos.

The Macbook Air is a low end Macintosh for graphics apps and you are asking it to perform a heavy pro workflow using a pro application. The integrated GPU of MBAs is a serious limiter to heavy graphics. Personally I would expect flaky performance with certain operations. In general I recommend that Aperture users choose boxes with independent GPUs and capable of taking 16 GB RAM if necessary.
It will be important to carefully optimize workflow. How much RAM is in the MBA? The most Apple specs is 8 GB but you can check OWC to see if you can go to 16 GB. My Aperture/Photoshop workflow paged out at 8 GB RAM before I upgraded to 16 GB RAM.
You should evaluate whether or not you have adequate RAM:
Look at the Page Outs number under System Memory on the Activity Monitor app before starting a typical Aperture/Photoshop work session and write the number down. Recheck the Page Outs count after working for a few hours and write the number down again. If the page outs change (manual calculation of ending page outs number minus starting page outs number) is not zero your workflow is RAM-starved.
Ignore the pie charts and other info in Activity Monitor because they can be misleading regarding RAM usage. For RAM analysis, manually count page outs before and after a work session.

  • Mail - many functions have just stopped working

Sometime during today, Mail stopped working. I can't quit it, without Force Quitting, I can't get mail, I can't send mail, I can't open mail which is in my folders - I just get the spinning wheel. When I click on a new message, I can't get any addresses to appear in the "To" line . I can't delete any messages.
Having read these forums I tried one suggestion. I copied the Mail folder and Preferences file from the last Time Machine backup from yesterday. I then had to rebuild every folder. This has done nothing to help. I have never had a problem with Mail before. While I can access my new emails through the Yahoo website, I have all my mail stored within folders in Mail and can't access any of them. Any ideas on how to get Mail working again?
I have also repaired permissions and verified the hard disk.

Thanks Ernie. I just tried this and it didn't change a thing. Every time I start Mail now, there is no message window visible and I have to use the menu to "bring all to front" and click on other items in that menu column before anything will appear. When I click on "Get Mail" (Mail should automatically get mail when it opens but doesn't now), every account gets the spinning wheel, even though only two accounts are set to get mail when I click on the button. No mail is received in any accounts and I have to Force Quit to stop it.
I have no idea what has caused this as it was working perfectly yesterday morning and then I went to check my mail later in the morning (not sure that the computer had even had time to go to sleep since I last used Mail) and I found that Mail was just hanging and wouldn't do anything. It is very strange.
Mail does allow me to open a new email but I can't address it (perhaps I can manually type in a person's address - haven't tried) using addresses from the Address Book. I can also see all my stored emails listed in each folder but I can't open any of them.

  • Mouse over events have just stopped working

My mouse over effects have stopped working.
1/ Dock does not longer show tips and does not magify
2/ Drop downs don't highlight with the blue bar
I've trashed the preferences file and also reset/shutdown the mac but it's still not working.
    Can anybody help
    Thanks.

I'm logging this fix myself in-case anybody else searches this problem.
    Basically:
    1/ Shutdown the Mac
2/ Hold down the "Apple" Key, The "alt" key, The "R" key and the "P" key all together that's 4 keys!
    3/ Turn on your mac
4/ The mac will make the boot sound, make sure it does it at least two time then let go of the keys.
5/ Once the mac has booted up this should fix the problem.
Disclaimer: This worked for me and the information was given to me by Mac support. If your un-sure about anything phone mac support if you don't want to risk anything.
