My iPod touch sleep/wake button is jammed.

Does anyone know any way to get my sleep/wake button fixed for cheap? I don't even inderstand why it's jammed. I have been gental with it, such. I'm really expecting any good support as Apple is horrible with that. (From past expierences) But I just decided to post so I could find out what has work best for anyone who expierenced the same problems. Also, my friend's iPod isn't charging. Yesterday it worked completely fine, and then today at school it suddenly stopped working. We switched iPods for the day and I tried to fix his iPod but nothing will work. I have tried forced recovery and DFU mode. I think it may be a bad battery or maybe the charger port is broken, but how do I tell?

For the Power switch Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
For your freind's iPod
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Also:
- Try another cable
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.

    Hi Deuce,
Do you have a protective case or film on the iPod? If you do try removing it and testing again.
You can restore the iPod to rule out software issues. This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744 will walk you through restoring the iPod.
If the issue persists without the case and after restoring, the iPod may need hardware repair, you can get it repaired by making a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it, calling AppleCare, or requesting repair online.

  • 2nd gen ipod touch sleep/wake button will not work

Like the title says, the sleep/wake button (top button) doesn't work on my 2nd gen ipod touch. In short, I can't put it into sleep mode (I have to wait the one minute), turn it off to save the battery, take screenshots, or even reset it (without iTunes, anyways).
I don't have any guesses on why it's not working. It just stopped working one day. I don't see water damage (via the water damage detector in the earbud jack), and I don't think I dropped it in a way that would harm it (unless dropping it on carpet counts).
I should also mention that randomly, one day after school, I was messing with it, and the button worked. I think the battery had died, and I managed to turn it on then. It worked for a few hours (I charged the battery), and then it went back to not working.
The warranty's up (and I'm broke), so I can't repair it. I also want to point out that the problem started not long after the warranty expired. What, at this point, is my best option? Should I just save up for the newest model? Or would it be cheaper and more efficient to save up just enough for a repair? Any other options I should consider?
    Thanks in advance.

As I said, you can move on to Restore. Backup everything then Restore as New. Restoring from backup would just copy whatever software issue you may have. But it sure looks more and more like a hardware problem. Take a close look at the button to see if perhaps some dirt particles are stuck there.
You can also make an appointment with a Gnius at the nearest Apple store to have it diagnosed. Apple does not fix iPods, they just replace them with refurbished units, so it won't be cheap. Prices are here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You can Google for third part repair hops or do-it-yoursel kits.
    Good luck.

  • IPod Touch sleep/wake button broke

I recently got my iPod touch in late June (so it is the first gen). When the 2.0 firmware came out I upgraded it. And when the 2.1 firmware came out I upgraded it.
But in October (About 10/3/08) I was using one of my apps, and tried to turn off the iPod/ lock it (or whatever happens when you push the power button) but it didn't work. I tried several times but it does not work.
The only way I can turn it on/ unlock it is by pushing the home button. I have to wait a minute for it to "Auto-Lock"
Do you think it has to be repaired or is it a software issue? (It is NOT and has never been jailbroken)

Never mind, all I had to do what push the button in a couple of times.

  • IPod Touch Sleep/Wake Button doesn't work

I have an earlier model 8gb touch and the power button hasn't been working for a long time. It worked for a while after purchase but now has no functionality and won't turn off or sleep. I've installed all the provided firmware updates and mostly only listen to music on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The buttons should have as soft click when pushed. If you do not feel the click, try giggling and pushing the button to see if you can free it up. It's mechanical button, if you get something like pop in and around the button, it can freeze up.

  • How can i fix an ipod whose sleep/wake button is not working?

Ever since I bought my 2nd generation ipod, the sleep/wake button has never worked. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

I looked at the previous discussions and most of them are talking about taking it to the apple service center but that's too expensive for me. i was wondering if there was any other option apart from that.

  • 3GS sleep/wake button is jammed

The sleep/wake button on my 3GS is jammed on one side of the phone. Instead of being parallel with the top of the phone, it slants to the right. It is now hard to push and and sometimes it causes the phone to sleep or not wake at times. Does anyone know what I can do before I send it off and not have it for a week?

If you have a genius bar anywhere near you, that is a much more viable option. I wouldn't really recommend trying too hard as you might give them reason to claim it is your fault, more than they might already try to do.
But if you don't mind the risk, you could try picking it back out to normal, but I am willing to bet you've already tried that.
I hope you get a good resolve

  • I have to press my ipod's sleep/wake button really hard in order to work. is there any way i can fix this?

i want to know if there is a way i can fix it on my own without going to a store.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons..
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

  • Sleep/Wake button is jammed!!

I was playing golf the other day and a buddy of mine slapped me on the leg with the grip end of his golf club. He hit my iphone, perfectly in-line with the sleep/wake button, and now the button is stuck in the phone.
He didn't hit it hard which is why I am surprised it is stuck. Have any of you had a similar problem, or do you think this will be covered under apple's warranty(allowing me to switch my current iPhone for a new one free-of-charge)?
Any yes or no answer would be appreciated, thanks.

I went to the local Apple Store near me last night and saw a Genius. I told him I pushed the button in and it got stuck, but he didn't really believe me. Since there was no damage to the outside of my iPhone and there was minimal scratching around the button area he couldn't really argue with me. He swapped my iPhone with a new one and I walked out of the store happy as anything, after buying a new case of course (A nice Les Paul rubber one that fits good).
P.S. If I learned anything from this experience it is to always have a case on my iPhone because I am sure that if I had a case this wouldn't have been a problem. (I had one but didn't like it and then took it off and never put it back on).

  • IPod Touch 4G Home Button is Jammed

Guys, where's the best place to bring an iPod Touch 4G for repair? It's no longer under warranty. I know I should bring to the authorized service center, but kinda hesitant to bring it to the apple service centers. word is, they don't repair stuff. they just replace the unit if it's under warranty. Is this true?
It seems to be a hardware problem. the home button is stuck. it's not just unresponsive, but it can't be pressed anymore. kinda like jammed. no clcking sound, can't be pressed, nor pop out, just lays flat. I tried the quick fixes on the net and apple forums like blowing in the ports to free up the dust, etc. nothing worked.

  • IPod Touch Sleep/Power Button Not Working! Help!

I have the new iPod Touch 32 GB and I got it in September. Since yesterday it started lagging with the button: When I push the sleep button to put it to sleep it waits 5-10 seconds and asks me to move the slider to shut down. Its like the button is stuck inside or something. Does anybody else have this problem? What should I do?

I have a 3g iPhone 32gb and this is happening with me as well. Actually, the darned thing freezes all the time (see my reply in the "Unresponsive" discussion: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10981942#10981942).

  • Sleep/wake button completely jammed

I got my iPhone 4S 4 month ago with otter box for my phone case for extra protection. I did not drop my phone, but one time my sleep button randomly started to get sticky now it's completely jammed. Apple stores are pretty far from where I currently live, so I can't really go to apple store to get it fix. My coverage status is technical supports are not available, but repair service is still on. I want to get my sleep button fixed. What can I do?

    Take it in for service.

  • Is there a way to reset iPod touch 4th gen without the sleep/wake button?

Hey everyone! My iPod touch 4th gen power button is jammed into the iPod itself. This is obviously a big issue, but is not the main point of this post. My iPod has been laggy and slow, so I need to reset it. (NOT restore, but slide to power off; press and hold home+power for 10 seconds) is there a way for me to do this without my sleep/wake button.
    Thanks in advance.

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
