My iPod touch will not reset. I have tried to the sleep/wake and home buttons simultaneously, but after the apple appears it goes back to a screen that shows the spiralling wheel that moves around 5 times, stops for a second and then repeats this cycle over and over. I tried to restore through iTunes, but I get an error message that says that I need to enter the passcode on the iPod which is impossible since it won't stop the wheel. Any ideas?

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iPod touch used to play and charge in my non apple dock but now will do neither. Looking back it appears to have stopped working when the software was updated to 5.1. Why is this?

There are two sides to this. On the one hand, an Apple upgrade bricked your dock and that bites. On the other hand, Apple can't be expected to design around 3rd party devices that don't follow the specifications. We don't know why Apple made this particular change that bricked your dock so it is difficult to judge whether or not there was a good reason behind it. We also do not know why AIVN didn't follow the specification but it was probably cost related.
Note: If you sell the iPod, you'll still have a non-functioning dock. You can sell it to someone with an older iPhone or iPod that can't be updated to iOS 5.1.

Very easy. Make sure you have a fat battery charge, good Wifi, like at home- not a coffee shop! Go into Settings which is that box full of gears and the phone should be asking to update. You have Internet switched on, right? Tap the button and let it rip!
I've always updated by Wifi. Even installed iOS 6 that way on a 3GS. It's easy. Apple stuff does archival installs and reinstalls, meaning your files aren't disturbed. BUT! Set up that iCloud backup. Now. Don't tempt fate. I had my battered 3GS stolen last week and it was traumatic! iCloud restored98% of my data and the lost stuff is buried in iTunes; Nobody told me I could go to iCloud.com and check my backups. And I asked around Apple. But 4 and 5 iPhones are better and there's a manual backup button to get on the web and be sure it's all uploaded.
I prefer iCloud to iTunes, but two backups never hurt! And you need Tunes to offload and on load stuff.

IPod touch will not synch and is unresponsive

When I connected my iPod it updated the software and wiped out ll my music. When I attempted to update again it would not synch. Tried to restore to original settings; now just have an apple logo on iPod touch screen and in iTunes it says it is waiting to sych. After 2 days nothing.

It seems that ever since the 1.1.3 update, I have not been able to have my iPod show up in My Computer to be used as a flash drive. Normal flash drives work and my older video iPod works, but not the iPod Touch.
I have upgraded to the new iTunes and Quicktime. At first (after upgrading iTunes) I saw an icon saying found Apple iPod. But then nothing. I can see it in Device Manager, but not in My Computer or even under Disk Management. What the heck???? Can anyone help me?

As the others have said, there is no firmware version of the iPod touch that supports Disk Use.
However there are alternatives out there for a small fee.

I just recently bought my iPod Touch 5th Generation and I've been charging it through my MacBook. However, it's recently stopped charging and a pop-up often comes up saying it was "draining too much power" from my laptop so the ports were turned off. I've also tried to charge it through my desktop computer and the computer doesn't even recognize it. My iPod doesn't show up in my iTunes when it's plugged in and the battery is completly drained. IPod touch will no longer sync with my music library on iTunes since restoring to factory settings

I had to restore the ipod when it locked my son out as he'd forgotten the passcode.
I have around 1000 songs in my music library on itunes. Sync all songs is checked, but it saying there are 0 songs.
I'd like to sync all songs to the ipod. Can anyone help please?

Syncing is iTunes keeping your iTunes library (or a defined portion of the iTunes library) "in sync" (the same as) the library on your iPod. And iTunes syncing of content generally goes in one direction only, from iTunes library on computer to the iPod. That's why, if you want to sync it to a NEW iTunes library, iTunes is warning you that the existing library on the iPod will be replaced.
So, you cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, you can add them to your iTunes library. Once your iTunes library is consolidated with ALL of your songs, you can sync your iPod to it.

That's actually a restore, which done via iTunes. A reset is equivalent to rebooting your PC.
What is the full error message you are recieving and is it from your iPod or from iTunes?

My Ipod Touch will not turn on, recognize itunes and fully function. When it does, once in a blue moon, after 5 minutes it freezes. I am wondering if its becuase battery was left dead for 2 weeks or problems with the iOS. Resetting does not help.
