My ipod touch will not update or restore

So everytime i try to restore or update my Ipod Touch 4th gen 4.3.2 to 5.1.1 it says The Ipod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (3194). I looked up the error and did everything it said to but i still get the same error.

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

Ok this is getting really annoying. I have tried to update my Ipod touch and I keep getting the same message: The iPod "xxx " Could not be updated. This device isn't eligible for the requested build. IPod Touch Will not Update or Restore

Just the other day I bought a iPod Touch. I went to install the 2.0 update and it comes up saying "there was a problem downloading the iPod software to the iPod. "(the name of my iPod)". An Unknown error occurred. (-23). It also does this when i try to do a restore. This is the second iPod i have owned to have this error. I spent hours on the phone with apple techs and they have no idea. Also both iPods that have had this problem were sync'd to separate computers. I have uninstalled an d re-installed itunes multiple times. The First computer was XP and this one is on Vista. Anyone got any ideas!

I'm in the same boat and I've been searching through here (while taking breaks from downlaoding, restarting, etc of course!) but nothing has helped.
When I plug it in, itunes immediately says it detects it's in recovery mode. Then the ipod tells me to plug it in (it already is and I know the port works)It spends forever "extracting the software," "preparing ipod for restore" with the logo, where it freezes or I get error 13 or 6 or 2301. It won't let me restore. everytime I plug it into the comp, it turns on with a picture teling me to plug it in. Then when it's not plugged in, I just get the apple logo, if I'm lucky.
I ran the diagnostic and everything looks like it's working.
i haven't even downloaded apps or anything.

Ipod touch will not update!

My ipod touch will not let me update to the most current software or even restore my ipod to factory settings. It will let me download, but when it is done and ready to install I get a message "There was a problem downloading the ipod software. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." Does anyone know what this means? I never seemed to have a problem until I downloaded that January update a few months ago.
I even tried reinstalling itunes but that did not help. Any help or suggestions are appreciated

I have an iPod Touch 8gb model MC540LL and it will not update. My iTunes program is 10.6 but every time I attempt to download and update the iPod I get the same message "The network connection could not be established." I've tried almost everything I know, even resetting the iPod's factory settings, but that won't work either, it recieves the same infernal message. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening?
Oh! And the iPod acts like it no longer has iTunes on it.

Only the iPod 5th generation can update to iOS 7. If you have an earlier model then you cannot update to iOS 7.

My Ipod touch will not update/restore.

After Holding down the sleep and home buttons, i put my itouch into "recovery mode". I tried to update to firmware 1.1.1, and it didn't work. I downloaded another 1.1.1 file that was slightly different numbered (still an Ipod 1.1.1 though), no luck. I gave up and clicked restore>restore and update. I just wanted my Ipod touch to work. It did not, and now it's useless. help plz.

Ipod touch will not work or restore

I connected my ipod touch. It said it needed an update. So I hit ok. It downloaded but then gave me an error that it could not be installed. It told me to restore it. It restores to a point then again gives me an error message # 9 that it could not restore. It keeps saying to restore it but it will not restore The screen gives me the connect to itunes screen but it will not restore.
The ipod is new to me but not new, so I cannot get apple support at the store which is several hours away. Can anyone solve this problem?

Can you restore the iPod touch from another user account? The article will walk you through creating a test user account.
Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the PC, using the cable that came with it.

My Ipod touch will not update.

I have not had an opportunity to update my Ipod touch for some time and have now come to try. However it will not allow me. Everything goes well, it backs up and downloads everything until it suddenly comes up saying "The iPod ----- cannot be restored at this time because the iPod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable" This has been occuring for about 3 weeks now. Any ideas?

4GB iPod nano will NOT update or restore

I have iTunes 7.0.1 and a 4GB iPod nano (2nd Gen) on Windows XP SP2.
When I plug it into my computer, it appears as a removable disk (even though "Enable Disk use" is unchecked). When I load iTunes, it does not recognise it.
If I then quit iTunes, eject the disk through Windows Explorer and stop the iPod service (via My Computer > Manage > Services & Applications > Services or via Task Manager), then reload iTunes, the iPod service starts again and my iPod appears in iTunes. Great.
However, if I then go to update the iPod with the new 1.0.2 software, once it starts to update, something ejects the iPod and the progress bar in iTunes just sits there. The iPod has been ejected and will never update. I cannot restore it as it does exactly the same thing.
I've just paid good, hard cash for this iPod nano and I can't use it?! Why oh why did Apple put the iPod updater software INSIDE iTunes??? That's a recipe for disaster, as can be seen by the multitude of posts on this topic in these forums and elsewhere on the net.
Before you ask, yes I have tried all the USB ports, yes I have tried other computers, yes I have stopped all anti-virus software, yes blah blah blah. I keep getting error 1415.
I'm really narked off with Apple about this. If they cannot provide a working solution, then it's going back to the store and I'll get a Zune... (that's a joke by the way...)

I had the exact same problems before, iTunes doesn’t recognize iPod after connecting it, I had to use the restart iPod Service method to get it working.
I tried this on my second computer and it worked perfectly, iTunes recognizes iPod every time I plug it in.
I compared the process/services opened in both computers, and I turned on some services which were previously on disable(excluding iPod Service). Unfortunately I forgot which services it was, so I took some screenshots and compare these with your services.
After modifying the services, I tried plug and unplug the iPod several times without closing iTunes, iPod was instantly recognized by iTunes every time!
I attached the links to screenshots of my automatic services and manual services, ignore the service if its not on your list!
For those don’t know how to open Services, Start -> Run -> “services.msc”

First Gen iPod Touch will not update to 2.2

Hi guys, having a major issue here with this 2.2 update from Apple. I have a 16GB 1st Gen iPod Touch and am running Windows Vista Home Premium along with iTunes 8.
When I click to update my software from 1.5.1 to 2.2, it goes through the whole process, but when it should finish, it says "Update could not be completed, Error 14." I then try to restore the iPod, it won't do that either. The iPod gets stuck on the screen showing the iTunes w/usb cable picture.
Any help on this?

IPod Touch will not update to 2.1 and is now in recovery mode

So I downloaded the 2.1 update and tried to install, it failed and now my iPod Touch is in recovery mode. When I go to restore now it tries and fails and tells me that it could not be restored and says "An unknown error occurred(6)" I would really appreciate any help as my iPod is useless right now. This iPod has never been jailbroken either.

Dang! I got the same message too, and this is my second iPod Touch (which is a replacement because my first couldn't install 2.0 at all). I got "Unknown Error (6)" twice, then tried a third time and that finally worked.
What is it with these devices that they're so unreliable? As it is, I'm crossing my finger that the 2.0.1 update addresses the battery problem I'm having now with this second iPT. (Won't know yet until later.)

I have tried to download the most recent update to my IPod touch, and every time I receive an error message. The update will start to download and then less than halfway through the error message pops up and the download stops. Not having my iPod updated is preventing me from re-downloading songs that did not apparently download the first time. These songs play in my iTunes on my computer, and even though I have synced my iPod a few times, the songs will not transfer.

Maybe if you told us what the error message says, we could help.
