My ipod touch will recognize my home wireless network but when I try to select it the wheel just keeps spinning. It looks as though I have a good signal but my router is an older apple extreme. I've updated to the lasted firmware but it's still not working. I have two older imacs and a wii that connect to the router. Any thoughts? Thanks

- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Setting>:General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

  • HT202157 Apple TV says it is updating date and time after a power outage here.  But nothing happens.  The wheel just keeps spinning.  What do I do to be able to use my apple tv?

Apple TV says it is updating date and time after a power outage. But the wheel just spins and nothing happens..  The software is updated and my wifi router is on and working fine and recognized by the Apple TV.  How do I get Apple TV to work again?

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately "Restart" did not change the situation.  I then used the "Restore" option.  After about 45 minutes of the unit going through the process, Apple TV was up and running again.

  • Can't connect my Ipod Touch 2nd gen to home wireless network - please help

I have just received a 2G ipod touch today and it will not connect to my home network. I have a SKY Netgear router with numerous devices wirelessly connected with WPA security. I have input the shared network key when my Ipod asks for a password but it will not connect (even if I am stood next to my router). I just get "Unable to join the network .........". I have tried connecting via the 'other' network route but still the same result. Please help.

Here's a few things you can do to get to the bottom of the problem:
    - Have you ever connected to a public hotspot? The only reason I ask is this will rule out hardware problems. If you are not close to anything, download and install the free app WiFinder from the app store. Once you have the app installed, you see what networks are around you. If nothing is working, contact Apple and either visit the Genius Bar or return it Apple.
    - If you have disabled encryption in your router and you are still be prompted for a password, you need to tap on that network name and tap Forget Network. And to really make sure everything is cleaned out, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings.
    - After your iPod restarts, use WiFinder to find your network. WiFinder will tell you whether or not you have encryption on or off and the type of encryption used. If it is still off, just tap the Connect button. If you have turned it back on, go to Settings > WiFi > Other network and enter your network name. You will be prompted for your encryption scheme and your password. WPA and WPA2 should have a password entered. WEP should have the hex key entered.
    - If you still can't connect, I would check and reenter my password. Passwords are case sensitive.
    - Assuming you have connected, tap the blue arrow (>) next to your network name. You should see your IP address, subnet mask, router IP address, and DNS router addresses, you are good to go.
    - If you have an IP address of 169.x.x.x, your router is not supplying an IP address. Recommend router settings are:
    SSID - on
    DHCP - on
    MAC filtering - off
Encryption - on and set to WPA or WPA2
    DNS - automatic from ISP

  • My macbook pro frooze, "spinning wheel of death", I tried to force quit.  When that failed I held down the power button.  Now I can't get by the white apple start up screen, the wheel just keeps spinning and nothing will happen...HELP!

    Again,
My macbook pro just frooze while on-line.  I got the rainbow wheel spinnin and it wouldn't stop I tried to do a force quit and I was unable to do that.  So I held down the power button.  Now when I try to restart it I can't get by the while page with the apple symbol on it.  All I have is the grey circle spinning continuosly like it is working.  I tried a command S when I started it back up and checked the HD and rebooted, still can't get by the startup page.  Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. I started an automatic upgrade that then got "stuck" for hours. I did a hard shut down and now all I get when I try to reboot is the spinning wheel. I haven't done a backup in 3 months and can't afford to lose everything in a reinstall. Any suggestions?

  • Iphoto will not open . Wheel just keeps spinning and spinning. Cannot reboot

My IPHOTO app will not open on my computer. When I open the app the wheel just keeps spinning .  If I try to upload a picture from my library to facebook it tells me I need to upgrade to IPHOTO 5 or above.but then my computer tells me there are no upgrades needed for my computer.  What is the issue here ? My photos just never appear.  Only the little wheel spinning

what version of iphoto do have? Of the OS?
If iPhoto will not quit you can force quit - Apple menu ==> force quit
You can try to Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • HT1595 Trying to connect my new apple tv to the wireless network. When I try to use the remote, the Apple TV doesn't respond (doesn't go to the next screen). Could this be caused by a weak wireless signal?

Trying to connect my new Apple TV to the wireless network. When I try to use the remote the Apple Tv doesn't respond ( doesn't go to the next screen). Could this be caused by a weak wireless signal?

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

The warranty for an iPod is international (that is not the case for an iPhone). Thus, you can have ti serviced/exchanged in India.

  • I can't access to wi fi even though i have a good signal and the router is working properly (my laptop works perfectly)

i can't access to wi fi even though i have a good signal and the router is working properly (my laptop works perfectly)

Try rebooting the router and see if that helps. unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
You can also try restarting your iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

    Reinstall OS X:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
