My iPod touch won't be recognized by my macbook.

I plugged in my iPod touch to my macbook this morning and it doesn't even charge. To make sure it wasn't the cable or the USB port, I plugged another USB and it was working fine. It won't appear on either iTunes or Finder. I found a solution that was intall all your updates and then restart your computer but still didn't work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

  • Dear Community - Please Help.  iPod Touch 4th Generation Not Recognized Suddenly on Macbook Pro

    Hello all,
Just today my iPod Touch is not being recognized by my macbook pro - OSX Mountain Lion.  Literally was working yesterday.
I have tried all the suggestions and trouble shooting and have scoured these community pages for an answer trying everything...
         - Restart and Shutdown the Macbook
         - Reset iPod - even did a full reset (didn't have a ton of content on there - no biggie)
         - Checked the five cords i have with my iPad and the USB ports on the macbook and all work with the iPad no problem
         - etc...
The iPod DOES charge no problem with the wall adaptor, so the input on the iPod itself is fine... and the iPod functions and Apps are working perfectly, it just won't be recognized by the computer.
    What can I do here????
Very puzzled and stressed as I need to load it up with music for tomorrow!

There was a reply here that I have been trying and now the reply is not in this discussion...
Is there anything else that anyone could suggest...

My IPOD Touch isn't being recognized by my PC(DELL LatitudeD630) and it won't synch. I'm "technologically handicapped" but all I know is it used to synch whenever I would attach it to PC with USB cable. Aside from tossing my DELL can anyone offer suggestions that might solve this problem ? Thanks

I had this issue, I fixed it by going to:
Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers
Then find the iPod, and Right Click > Properties > Hardware > Properties > Driver > Update Driver > Update Automatically
The driver had not been automatically installed, and windows found and installed the driver files for me. Took ~90 seconds, and then the iPod began it's sync process almost immediately after. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue! I'd try this before re-installing iTunes.

My ipod Touch won't download videos I took with the Photo app onto my MacBook.  Is this a memory problem?  The videos play fine on the iPod but I can;t get them off of it.  Thanks.

    - Could it be that the ones that can't be viewed are really too big of a file size and thus can't really be emailed?

    first try:

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My daughters iPod touch won't sync, says apps aren't recognized, nothing syncs though

iPod touch won't sync at all. Only message is that some apps aren't recognized.  If I reset, will it sync? Or will she have a blank iPod because the "apps aren't recognized"?

Use the communities search box in the upper right of this page and searc for: "the apps can't be determined". Use the quote makes and make sure the wording matches what the error message says.
You will then find the previous discussions with the same error.  I do not remember the solution.

  • Ipod touch won't connect to computer, windows 7, and itunes, and won't charge on my computer

Whenever I plug in my ipod touch to my computer, NOTHING HAPPENS.There is no "bleep" sound, nothing shows up under my computer, nothing shows up in itunes, and my ipod touch won't even charge. How can I fix this?
I have tried many things to fix this issue, including reading and doing everything listed under "iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows".
    I have:
    - deleted itunes and reinstalled it
    - reset my ipod touch using the home and power key
    - tried fixing drivers
    - using a different cord
    - using a different computer (my ipod touch won't even show up on any other computer)
    etc.
And yet my ipod touch still will not connect to my computer or itunes, and will not charge on my computer. It charges fine in the wall, though.
I have more information that I believe may be integral to fix this issue:
    - My ipod touch is up to date with iOS 8.0.2
    - My itunes is up to date with version 11.4
    - I tried to connect my ipod using bluetooth, and it shows up like this
(other than this, it won't show up on my computer at all)
    - After I had updated my ipod touch and itunes and even synced my ipod (which had worked fine), I had then put a facebook app and facebook message app on my ipod touch, which after I had done that the next day I noticed that my ipod touch would not even show up on my computer at all (so I deleted the apps) and yet the problem is still persisting.
    - I installed iCloud on both my ipod touch and my itunes
    - Other than what I stated, I have not made any changes to my ipod touch.
In my device manager, NO APPLE PRODUCTS/DRIVERS SHOW UP ANYWHERE
The only place that apple mobile device show up at is here -
I've even tried to reset/stop/set to automatic the Apple Mobile Device here, and still it does not help.
Someone please help me. I've provided much information, so some assistance would really be appreciated. If I need to provide more information, please let me know.

You can try going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and setting and then try setting up via iTunes. If still problem then set up via wifi and go to an Apple Store
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • IPod touch 4th Gen is recognized as digital camera, not in iTunes

I'm using a Windows XP computer with the newest version of iTunes and my iPod touch 4 won't pop up in iTunes, it's a digital camera according to my pc. I have tried really EVERYTHING: update iTunes, downgrade iTunes, reinstall iTunes and all other apple software 7 times, USB drivers, firmware, DFU-mode, every single apple support I could find I tried! And now I'm tired of it, my rage upon this issue isn't describable anymore...
Please help me instead of referring to another topic

Found the sollution, but it is very hard to do though:
"Unfortunatly uninstalling/re-installing iTunes and all doesn't always seem to work. We had the same issue with the ipod touch being recognized as a digital camera under windows xp. We tried just about any recipe listed by apple or others with no success.
In the end what works is to just force the drivers on what windows thinks is a camera, i.e. to ‘update’ the device to use the correct driver. There are some hints on how to do this already listed on this forum, but I’ll try to give some more detailed information:
    1. First off you need to have iTunes installed and the ipod touch plugged in
and recognized as ‘something’ e.g. digital camera (it shouldn’t really
matter what it’s recognized as, but it needs to be found by windows).
    2. Search for usbaapl in the C:\WINDOWS system folder:
o open windows explorer (e.g. Right-click Start and then click ‘explore’)
o right-click the WINDOWS folder and select ‘Search’).
o type in usbaapl and hit Search – try to ignore the dog!
You should find the driver info in a sub folder of
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE e.g. C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B
Remember that location (either leave the search box open or copy the folder
name into note pad – you’ll need it later)
If you don’t find usbaapl.sys, usbaapl.inf etc. then your drivers have not
been installed with the iTunes install and you’ll have to reinstall iTunes.
    3. Locate the ipod-camera device:
o Open the device manager, e.g. using Start > Control Panel >
Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager
o Look for a device called ‘ipod’ - if your ipod shows up as
‘digital camera’ it will be under something like ‘imaging devices’.
    4. Update the driver:
o Right click the ‘ipod-camera’ in device manager and click on
‘Update Driver’ – the Hardware Update Wizard will open.
o Check the ‘Install from a list or specific location’ then click ‘Next’
o Check ‘Search for the best driver in these locations’. Un-check
‘Search removable media’ and check ‘Include this location in the search’.
In the text box below type (or better copy and paste) the folder
containing the ipod driver information found in step 1 (in the example
    above it was C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B),
    then click Next.
You should now see something like ‘Apple ipod device driver’ or so. Continue
installing that device. Once the driver has been installed the ipod will come
to life and iTunes (if you have it open) will show it.
Hope this helps. Please add comments to the instructions above if you find variations that work for you."
Apple should fix things like this!

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch won't charge

    Hi, folks:
Suddenly, my 4th generation iPod Touch won't charge. I don't mean it won't hold a charge; I mean it WON'T charge. There's no (peep!) when I attach it to a Mac, a Windows box, or to the wall. I've tried not only at my place but at my doctor's office, too, on his computer. Rats.
It fell three feet onto a concrete floor a week before this happened, so I'm unsure of cause/effect there. However, chances are most excellent that I touched it while filled with static electicity (my bed is exceedingly staticky). Maybe I touched the charging port? I have no idea, but I kinda sorta have a memory of having gotten a shock while touching my pod and wondering whether that was bad.
It'll be a couple more days before I can get to a Genius Bar (but thank cow I'm in New York City and have my pick of them!). In the meantime, can anyone calm me down about my situation? Do you imagine it's doomed (it IS still operable provided I keep it plugged in, though iTunes can't see it since it won't mount), or do you spose the installation of a new battery might bring my precious baby back to me? It IS freshly backed up (again, thank cow!), but I'm not in a position to buy a new one right now, and unfortunately, I don't know what to do with my eyeballs without a Touch in front of them.
Oh, how I hope someone can tell me that this has happened to him, and an Apple Genius merely did something magical and handed it back intact and amazing again so Ican cry happy tears. It's been four days and I'm just sick without it (and having to look at this gigantic Mac, with its large and beautiful text in many windows, means I can't RECLINE! WAAAAH!).
Thanks for any soothing words you have, and if you have sad ones, well, I'll vag up and read them, as I've prepared for the worst anyway (sob!). Just please deliver them gently.
    I appreciate it!

Wow, Kevin; that's a tantalizing theory! I don't like it (I *never* like to think about logic board damage for any piece of hardware), but it's tantalizing, as it would explain my pod seemingly charging out of thin air, and it'd also explain why my pod doesn't just DIE altogether from a dead battery.
I feel like an idiot: I have iTunes set to never sync automatically with my pod, so it never automatically recognizes the pod. I'll bet I could sync it if I clicked to "apply," as I've been downloading new apps since 2/21 (the last time I backed the pod up, mere minutes before it failed), but I don't want to risk not having a connection that's 100% and bollixing up what's on the pod now. (I'll be in the hospital for a day and will need something to read the whole time; I'll need an intact pod!)
Thanks for sticking with me, Kevin; I always like figgering things out, and your theory's interesting. I'll mention it to the Genius. It doesn't give me any hope, but not having any hope, I can always be pleasantly surprised, whereas if I go in all hopeful, someone can dash my dreams. This way, I'll prolly just have my expectations met.
I appreciate your talking it out with me a lot!
