My iPod touch won't start up/charge/sync
on what i think is the ipod touch 3rd gen (if that helps) when i plug it into my laptop the black screen with the apple sign comes up as if it were to start up as normal, however it just stays on that same screen for as long as it's plugged in, it then says it has no power, also it my itunes also doesnt 'see' my ipod, HELP?
To get iTunes to see the iPod try:
- A reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Place the iPod in recovery mode. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
- Try DFU mode

Sounds like a bad battery. How long did you let it charge?
Basic troubleshooting steps.

Ipod touch won't start, just shows screen saying to connect to itunes.
Ipod touch won't start or charge, or do anything other than when I plug it in, the screen shows a picture of the usb cord connecting to itunes. When I tried to connect to itunes using my computer, nothing happened. Any suggestions?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

my ipod touch won't hold a charge and gets really hot when im using it. what is going on?
Likely that the battery is dead. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to confirm. Apple will replace the battery for this price:

There are third-party places which may be less expensive. Here is one. Google for more.

you might have to restore your ipod. you need to turn off your ipod and then hold down the home button while plugging it in to your computer (dont turn it on just hold down the home button).

My 3rd generation ipod touch won't charge or turn on. I keep charging it, but it show the exremely low battery screen. It also flashes the apple logo like it's turning on, but it just stays on that screen or flashes and goes away. It won't connect to itunes. My iPod touch won't hold a charge since 1.1.3 update
After the 1.1.3 update, I purchased the iPhone apps for my iPod touch and also added 6 webpage addresses to my home screen. There is two pages on my homescreen. I also added two email accounts, one using yahoo, and one using msn, going through izymail. since the update, my iPod won't hold a charge at all. I haven't really used it yet, but once or twice during the day I check my mail, and other than that it is off. They battery constantly drains, If it is full, it will lose batter life in about a day, just sitting on my night stand turned off. No music or videos are left playing. Is something with the update or my iPod, can I fix it? Oh, I change it from an apple usb wall charger, and I got my iPod at christmas.
ThanksYou say your turning it off does that mean you are holding in the sleep button and sliding the unit off or does it mean you are just locking the unit with the screen off?
If you have the Wifi enabled and only have the IPT in standby mode then this is why it's depleting the battery so quickly. Charge the unit till it's full with the little plug showing and then eject it and turn off wifi and leave the unit in standby overnight and see if the battery depletes at all.
I've noticed that Wifi really ***** the life out of the battery very quickly so give it a try and report back to us. -
2G iPod Touch won't synch or charge with computer.
I have a 2nd gen. iPod Touch and when i plug it into my computer it won't recognize it, charge it, or synch it. The only thing that happens when you plug it in is the computer makes 3 fast, same pitched tones. It's kind of like when you would normally plug it in and it makes those two tones. Anyway, so I thought maybe it was the cord so I got another chord and it didn't make a difference. I reinstalled iTunes and it made no difference. I restarted, and then restored my iPod and tried it again and it didn't work. I made sure it was fully charged too, to no avail. Finally I plugged in my iPod Video and it was recognized by the computer immediately so I know that it's a problem with the iPod touch. But the iPod Touch still works with my iHome. I have no idea what it could be. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Actually you are in a better position than some are with this problem. I would back up my iTunes library and then remove it completely from my computer. Use the info in this article to remove iTunes:

Then download the latest copy of iTunes and install that. That generally will fix it. -
IPod Touch won't connect or charge AT ALL.
I can't connect my iPod touch to ANY computer AT ALL. This includes Windows Xp, Vista and an iMac with Leopard. They are all running iTunes 7.6.2. I have tried all protocols I've come by so far none have worked. The iPod simply won't connect.
The iPod turns on when it is plugged in but after the home screen comes up nothing happens. No charging, syncing or any type of connection. iTunes and the OS don't acknowledge any type of USB device, even in the Device Manager. Apparently it tries since it powers up when plugged in but thats the extent of the connection. I haven't found any other persons with a scenario like this, please help.I know you've tried it with other computers, but have you tried it with a different cable? Also have you tried resetting the Touch while it is connected? (Hold down the sleep and go buttons, ignore the power off screen and let go when you see the Apple logo).
If you get the same results after trying this you need to either make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store or send it in for service: http://www.apple.com/support/oss/ -
