Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network? (i do not know what " it shows the wifi icon" means)
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod Touch cannot connect to wireless network

I have a 1 TB, dual-band time capsule with a wireless network created to share our broadband internet connection for our main computer (the iMac), a windows PC, an iPhone 3G, and a 2nd gen iPod touch to connect to the internet. Wireless security for this network is WPA/WPA2 Personal. The windows box and the iPhone 3G connect without problem, but the iPod touch does not seem to connect correctly. The device sees the network, prompts for the password, and seems to be connected (wi-fi symbol visible in top left corner of device), but when trying to view a website using the Safari app, the screen dims and an endless "Connecting..." message is visible. Furthermore, when trying to update e-mail, I get a message that the connection to the server failed.
It is worth noting that the iPod did not always have this problem. It was able to connect to the wi-fi network until a few weeks ago. This may have been due to the upgrade to Snow Leopard, or perhaps due to an incident where the windows PC lost its connection to the network. When this occurred, I had to disable all security on the network, connect the PC to the network, then re-enable security (as I had to do when first installing the Time Capsule; for whatever reason, the windows box had a hard time joining the network with security enabled). Anyway, one of these two events is the likely cause of the iPod suddenly being unable to connect; I'm sorry to say that I'm uncertain as to which one, because my wife uses the device sporadically, so we cannot pinpoint exactly when this difficulty started.
As for attempted solutions, I tried resetting the iPod back to factory settings, only to have the same connection issues. I also changed the network security settings to None, and attempted to connect the iPod to the network (even though it should have no problem connecting to a secure network), but still no go. I am short on ideas for a fix, and would gladly welcome any advice the community has to offer. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me. My new Touch connects fine to my work wireless network (WEP64) - still does. But my home wireless network is SOL. I can join the router, wireless icon is in upper left corner (although gray, not green). I can even see the Touch from my router (Verizon FIOS). All other laptops in the house including wireless TiVo work flawlessly. I have not undone my security on my router yet - looks like it won't help. I have tried using static IP and I can still see iPod from router. But I cannot browse, go to AppStore, check email (which works great from work network), and have exact same error messages as above post. It has to be a security thing somewhere, I just didn't want to mess with router if I didn't have to. If I figure it out, I will post here........

  • IPOD touch wont connect to my secure wifi

I just got a new Ipod touch and have been trying to connect to my home wireless router. I have a Linksys wrt300n and run a WEP 128 bit security on it. All the other devices in my house run of this wirelessly. (Laptop, desktops, gaming system, etc...) When I first connected my other wireless devices I had to enter my WEP key to be able to access the router. Now the problem I am having is that the IPOD touch will pick up my network. it asks me to enter my password and I do this. Then it tells me that the password is wrong. I double check my password buy logging into my routers setup page. I was right. I assume this is because of my WEP security setting but for the life of me I can not find a place to enter the KEY code in. I have been on the phone twice with Apple to no avail. They are trying to tell me that I may have to change what security setting I use. Is this right? Is there another way. As it stands right now, the IPOD touch I bought is just a $200 peice of junk if I can not even connect to my own home network. OH, before any one asks, I did go to a buisness with free wifi and was able to connect right off the bat with that network. So it is something with my secured setup. Any help would be appriciated. I have been looking around for hours for an answer.

Have an ipod touch that would not connect to the wireless router using WEP128 encryption. I cannot change encryption on the router since not mine (I did not change any settings on the guy's router though he wouldn't know if I had).
Tried a number of passwords including audible cursing and fist shaking. I also tried variations on the HEX and account password (in quotes, start out with a $, etc) and none worked. What did work was converting the 26 number string from HEX to ascii using an online converter http://centricle.com/tools/ascii-hex/
and putting this value in the password box when I logged in.
Side bar - I manually selected the network by inputting the name of the network and selecting the encryption. I don't think this step made a difference.

  • IPod Touch only connects to home network; not Airport, Starbucks, Panera...

Before I start, I've read the FAQs and have looked through a number of topics already posted.
I seem to have the opposite problem everyone else is having. My iPod Touch connects just fine to my home wireless... It connects and I'm able to browse the internet, download apps, etc without fail.
However, when I was at the airport recently (both St. Louis and Dallas/Ft. Worth), my Touch would "connect" to the wireless there, but I couldn't go on the 'net or get new apps, etc. It was behaving as if I wasn't at a location with wireless access. When I returned home, I went to Starbucks, Panera, McDonald's... several places with free, open, easy-to-connect WiFi (and took my laptop to make sure that their wireless was working), and had the same problems as I did at the airport.
Considering the best part of having wireless on the Touch is that you should be able to access it anywhere with WiFi, it seems kind of "useless" to have it only work at home (I have two computers at home; so it's not like I need to use the Touch for internet there).
Any thoughts? Obviously, the whole "check your router settings" / "reset your router" answers are not going to help me, as I have no control over those, nor can I see them at these places. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having the same problem. My iPod Touch connects to my home network and another secure network for which I enter the network name and password. However I am unable to connect to any free WiFi, even when my laptop can access it with no problem. The signal is apparently strong; I can see all the bars on the upper left, but when trying to connect to Safari or the app store it says that there is no connection.

  • Ipod touch wont connect to wifi unless close to router

My ipod won't connect to my wifi unless I'm about 5-10 feet away from the router. Is this normal with the 1st gen ipod touches? I can't use a lot of apps because I need an internet connection to use them.

  • My iPod touch wont Connect or Slide

My iPod screen says Connect to iTunes, but it wont connect, and I've tried to "Hard Reset" it, but it just goes right back to the same screen. also when i try to turn it off it wont let me slide to turn it off? Please help!! i've had my iPod for quite awhile and this is the first problem i've ever had with it.

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
