My iPod touch wont sync or charge on my computer, but charges in a dock

All of a sudden my iPod touch (3rd gen) is not syncing to my computer or charging on the computer, but it will charge in a separate docking station. This started on Sat 1/8/11, Friday it worked & Saturday it didn't. I did not do any updating of tunes prior to problem and I am working with the most updated itunes software. I have tried multiple usb ports & multiple cords & none of them work. I also have a plug that goes into the wall using the usb & it does not work now either.
Of course my warranty was up 21 days ago. Help me please! I'm desperate.

    Hello Casey B,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try re-installing the latest version from this page on top of the current installed version and see if that helps.

If nothing else, remove the Application from your Mac entirely, and again download the latest version from the link above.

my ipod touch wont turn on ive tried restoring it but every time i do it just says its waiting for the ipod to respond. meanwhile my ipod is no longer a black screen but the apple logo with a loading bar underneath that after leaving for 8 hours hasnt moved.

    Try:
    - Another cable
    - Another USB port
    - Reboot the computer
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Would like to move iPod touch files to my new Windows 8 computer -- but can not see hidden files

Would like to move iPod touch files to my new Windows 8 computer -- read on how to do this, but this involves being able to see the hidden fiels -- but can not see hidden files...any suggestions. Would like to transfer these files from iPod Touch to new laptop without software -- is that possible -- if not can anyone recommend a good free software to use?

There is no way to do so without software. I recently had a similiar task and was suggested to use iExplorer. It worked like a charm.
Refer to this page for iExplorer
Here is the page I was helped with on this task for reference: Export Songs
    Hope this helps!

    Probably the battery is dead. You can bring it to the apple store and get a out of warranty battery replacement for a fee. Check this link;
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
I believe it's probably more worth it upgrading your device but that's my opinion.

is it my computer or is it my ipods? how can i fix it? help!!!!!!!!!!!

If you've updated to ITunes 10.5, I would say that is where your problem lies. I'm facing the same issue and never had a problem synching until I updated yesterday. I'm searching the forums to see if anyone's found an answer to this problem but, be assured, you're not alone!
