My iPod was stolen, is there anything I can do?

My iPod touch was stolen at school a few days ago and I do have the FindMyiPhone app on it, but no luck tracking it. I've sent messages to the iPod about contacting me if found, and I've also locked it from my friend's iPhone, but it keeps saying that since it's not connected to the internet, it can't locate it.. and that the messages won't be seen until connected to the internet. Is there any other way that I can track it with it's serial number? Or anything else that I can do with the app? PLEASE help!
Oh and is there any way that I can get insurance on my ipod... or any way that I can find out whether I have any or not?

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal informtion, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

Find my iPod Touch (iOS 4.2.1 and greater) - http://images.apple.com/ipodtouch/built-in-apps/find-my-ipodtouch.html - has to be enabled before device is lost.  It also requires the device be on and connected to registered WiFi network, and not having been restored by the finder (if it was really stolen then the thief has probably restored it).  If you have activated the "Find My" feature, go to https://www.icloud.com or use the Find My iPhone app - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-iphone/id376101648?mt=8
Setting up iCloud (requires iOS5) - http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ios.html - includes activating the 'Find My' feature.
Frankly in the case of a stolen iPod this almost never works. Report it to the police.  Change passwords on accounts. Go shopping for a new iPod.

  • Every time i try to sync my 4th gen ipod touch itunes won't recognise it and the ipod keeps beeping - is there anything I can do?

This is really frustrating.  Every time i try to sync my 4th gen ipod touch itunes won't recognise it and the ipod keeps beeping - is there anything I can do? I've tried using different cables. Itunes works fine with my family members ipod's & iphones...

The best way to manage your music when you have multiple iPods is to change the settings under "Options" so that you manually manage your music instead of it doing an automatic synch each time you connect.  To add only the songs you want, highlight them and then "click and drag" them to your iPod.  This way none of your daughter's music gets added and you're not in danger of deleting your playlist as well.  It will show you how many songs you've added and you can then click on your iPod to verify.  To delete her songs off your iPod now, click on the music tab under your iPod so show everything you have stored.  Find those songs you want to delete, click on them to highlight then go up to the Edit window and click delete. This will erase them off your iPod but be careful when you highlight.  I did that and then had to reload a cd on my boyfriend's, lol. hope this helps

  • My iPod was stolen ... anyway i can track it ?

My cousin has stolen my iPod , and i believe he sold it, the ******* *******. Is there ANY way i can track it ? It has extremely important things, that if I loose, can ruin everything. Plese, HELP ME !
    I apologize for my english.

IF you set up find my ipod on the ipod itself BEFORE it was stolen AND it is on AND it is connected to wi-fi AND it has not been restored, then you may be able to find an approximate street address using icloud.
Otherwise there is no way to track it at all.

  • Is my Ipod dead or is there anything i can do????

Somehow my 60gb video ipod had become broken - I think one of my kids had a hand in this.
Firstly, the screen has become broken - this is the easy bit as I can obtain one from eBay cheaply enough.
However, when i connect my ipod to my computer (windows based PC) it doesn't appear in my computer as a disk drive or as an ipod in itunes. It does appear in the windows device manager so there is SOME life left in it lol.
I am thinking the hard drive may be damaged I don't know - is there anyone who can offer some help?

Update - my ipod now appears in itunes - well its a start!
Only have option to restore ipod - however i click this and its says requested resource could not be found.
At top it states Name: IPOD
    Capacity: n/a
    Software Version: n/a
    Serial Number: n/a
    Format: unknown

  • HT4061 My ipod was stolen, is there a way of getting it back using the cerial number or other security information?

Someone has stolen my ipod. I do not have it with me, but is there another way to find the cerial number or another piece of information i could turn into the police? is there anyway of getting it back, Becuase i hav a good idea of who stole it, and i have some prove, but its just witness prove, no real prove.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to school and police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

  • My iPod was stolen, is there any way it can get tracked down?

Hey, how are you guys doing?
I bought a 4g iPod touch 32g a while ago, and I want to know if it can be tracked down. I didn't have iCloud put on it & I used an app on another iPod to track it down using the apple account and no results were shown as if the iPod had been reset. Please let me know if it can be tracked down.

  • My Ipod was stolen,is there a deadman switch ?

Is there a way to protect my account or some kind of deadman switch that messes it up . I don't want to find it ,or find who took it.I just don't want my info or purchased stuff available to the thief.

You can erase/wipe the iPod only if you had ALREADY set up the FindMyiPhone feature and wifi is on and some other conditions are met.  Apple can't help you.

  • My Ipod was stolen, got new one, how can I use my old playlist??

i just went to bestbuy to get a new macbook pro 13inch led backlit and i was taking the bus home and as i was getting off the bus i relized i left my macbook and when i turned around it was already gone. i was just wondering if apple could help me locate it. i havent setup mycloud on it yet but i do have the serial number. can the help me?
P.S I've already notifyed the police

Some credit cards offer "buyer protection" as  perk.  If you paid with a credit card, ask.
Also if the receipt was with the computer, keep an eye on the card activty in case soemone uses the receipt information (though most stores just print the last 4 digits of the card number).
And skip the corner bar.  You need your wits about you for this.

  • If My iPod Was Stolen...

If my iPod was stolen, is there any way for Apple to keep an eye on the serial number to see if someone tries to re-register it on iTunes? Or is that an option the thief could skip?
It seems mine has been stolen and I'm pretty bummed out and want it back. Thanks.

If you registered it, you can call Apple and they can give you the serial number.
Also it is on your computer in this file -> C:\UsersUser\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPodDevices.XML
It's also on the box and on the receipt.
