My iPod will NOT charge anymore while it's turned on

My iPod will NOT charge anymore while it's turned on, I have to plug it in then shut it off for it to charge. And when I connect it to the computer [Or any computer] It Says it cannot recognize the device..I've tried EVERYTHING to fix this...and I don't know if I should call apple or go back to where I bought it and ask for help?..

Saying everthing is not helpful. Did "everthing" include:
- Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restoring the iPod from backup
- Restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod
- Placing the iPod in recovery mode to get iTunes to see the iPod

I have this problem too. My first generation Nano was revived by a Genius at the local Apple store when he connected it to an AC adapter.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Nano requires a small charge just to get it to the place where it can recharge using USB.
The solution: don't let the battery discharge completely, and/or buy an AC charger for the Nano.
I guess I should also change the settings on the iPod so it goes to sleep after a couple of hours. (I often listen to audio books while going to sleep, so the iPod plays all night, and uses all the battery power.)
Over the life of the iPod, the cost of an AC adapter is far less than the cost of buying disposable batteries, but it irks me that an adapter is necessary when the rechargeable battery runs out.

If none of these fixes work, take it into the Apple store. barring any signs of obvious damage it's possible that your battery is sick, or that there could be something wrong within the device.
Do the troubleshooting to rule out a bad cable before you take time to go in.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My ipod will NOT charge at all, its dead and wont accept any of my chargers

hi anyone my ipod will not charge at all! ive tried charging it on my iHome, wall charger, and car charger. it doesnt accept any of them. Every once in a while when i pull it in, it will show the symbol with the blinking battery and the charging symbols. Can anyone help me? if not im tempted to buy another one off of amazon, would there be any other way to transfer the memorychip over so i can have my pictures, etc?

This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

IPod will not charge or show up in iTunes

My iPod will not charge when I connect it to my computer through the USB cable. It does not show up on iTunes. Nothing comes up on the iPod screen at all. The iPod is completely dead. I have tried pressing the menu and center button at the same time. I have tried toggling the hold button. I have tried every combination. It is an old iPod (3 or 4 years at least) 80gb video. I have tried charging on another computer. It seems to only stop working like this if the battery dies completely.
Is there another solution to this besides the menu/center button solution?

This is the exact same problem I have. The only thing that works for me is to charge it on an old ihome alarm clock. I bought the alarm clock at the same time as the ipod, and I haven't tried it on a newer ihome device. Once my ipod is totally dead, thats the only thing that will work. I even took it to the apple store and they told me all they could do was give me 10% off a new ipod and "recycle" mine. Before you do that, I would really recommend trying to charge it on an ihome or similar device. You might have to bite the bullet and restore the device if nothing else works. If that doesn't bring it back to life, make an appointment at an Apple Store and let take a look at it.
