My Ipod Will Not Update or is not recognized by computer
See the problem is i had to reformat my computer recently like yesterday which was saturday 23rd 2006 because my sound wasnt wrking. I got my sound to work and uploaded all songs back to my ipod. I connect it and it says new device found in the right side of the computer. I click it says new device found search for hardware? and i say yes and it says no hardware found from the search. Now i cannot upload songs to my ipod there is no removable thing that comes on my computer. The ipod will only recharge. This happened to me before as well. What i did was i reformatted my comptuer again but theres two ways to reformat it and i chose the second one and it worked. So im guessing the second way to reformat is right. I do not wanna reformat again cuz i downloaded so many programs and reinstalled a lot spent almost 6 hours on it. Is there any way to gett my ipod working?

IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a USB power surge
Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
Hope this helps! -

After upgrading to 8.1 in windows, my ipod is not recognized in computer or itunes
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 a while back, and just tried to synch my ipod with itunes and now my ipod is not being recognized in my comuper or itunes. Does anyone know why this is and/or how to fix it?
Thanks!!
AmberHello Amber,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes. I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer or Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
If Windows recognizes your iPod but iTunes does not, follow the steps in this article:
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
Best,

IPod Mini not recognized by computer
Tried all manners of resetting and restoring the iPod. Fails every time. Can I just re-format the disk using Disk Utility? And if so, what format?
Or is all of this in vain and I need a new one?
TIA.
JBFor Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case the above does not work, find a window base PC and do a Restore there. Once it has been done, redo the Restore on your Mac
Bear in mind you may need to put your iPod in disk mode before you plug with your computer. -
Ipod is not recognized by computer
I've tried everything to get my ipod connected to my computer. i don't think it's the ipod b/c it will connect and work to my dad's computer...any ideas on what else i could try?
i've removed the programs and tried re-installing a few times, still nothing.
hope someone can help...asapI had the same problem, and Toonz posted a fix which worked:
1. Quit iTunes and disconnect the iPod.
2. If you have the iPodService running -- Right click task bar, select "Task Manager", click on Processes tab. If you find "iPodService.exe" in the list, select it and stop it.
3. Register Atl.dll manually. In Windows, click Start, and then click Run.
The Run dialog box appears. In the Open box, type "regsvr32 atl.dll". Hit return. Do you get a message? What does the message say?
4. Then in Windows, click Start and then click Run. Type in "cmd", hit return. In the dialog that comes up, at the prompt type in everything exactly as follows:
C:\"Program Files"\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe /service
5. Run iTunes and connect the iPod back up to it.
Hope this helps...as I said it worked for me.
It has something to do with a missing dll, which was presumeably blown away by some other program (that's whet the apple protagonists are saying). I started with a fresh install of XP SP2 on a newly formatted partition. Itunes 4 worked fine, but Itunes 5 did not. Nothing else changed...so iTunes 5 is guilty as far as I'm concerned. I'm assuming Toonz doesn't work for Apple, which means if it were up to them Apple I'd still be short one iPod.
Good Luck. -
TS1496 ipod shuffle not recognized in computer itunes or device manager
not recognized in comp, i tunes or device manager.....HELP!!!!
I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO THAT I JUST BOUGHT MY 30GB IPOD VIDEO ABOUT 4 HOURS AGO, SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN REALLY STRUGGLING TO INSTALL IT. A SOON AS I GOT IT, I DID EXACTLY WHAT IT SAID, I WENT TO WWW.APPLE.COM/IPOD/START AND DOWNLOADED THE NEWEST ITUNES VERSION. THEN I PLUGGED IN MY IPOD TO MY COMPUTER, AND ALL THAT HAPPENS IS A LITTLE BUBBLE OPENS UP AND SAYS "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" WHEN I CLICK THAT, IT OPENS UP, AND I CLICK "INSTALL THE SOFTWARE AUTOMATICALLY" WHERE IT SAYS IT, THEN I CLICK NEXT AND WAIT. AFTER, IT SAYS "THE HARDWARE WAS NOT INSTALLED BECAUSE THE WIZARD CANNOT FIND THE NECESARRY SOFTWARE".AFTER I WENT TO WWW.APPLE.COM TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, I'VE LOOKED THROUGH AND READ EVERY ARTICLE THAT CAN PERTAIN TO MY SITUTAION, BUT NONE HAVE HELPED ME I AM DISPLEASED TO SAY, THE LAST ARTICLE I READ WAS THIS ONE:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
BUT EVEN THAT DOES NOT HELP ME BECAUSE WHEN I GET TO STEP 8 WHICH SAYS "Locate the iPod in this list. In some cases one of the entries will have "iPod" in its name. If no such entries are present, the iPod is most likely represented by "USB Mass Storage Device." I LOOK FOR WHERE IT SAYS "IPOD" OR "USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE" UNDER "UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS, AND CANNOT FIND EITHER THING..I HAVE RESTARTED MY COMPUTER A NUMBER OF TIMES, I HAVE EVEN UNISTALLED ITUNES THEN REINSTALLED IT I HAVE STRETCHED EVERY OPTION AND NOTHING HAS WORKED..CAN SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME??..I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM FOR 4 HOURS STRAIGHT STOPPING ONLY TO GO TO THE BATHROOM AND GRAB A BITE TO EAT.. -
Ipod touch not recognized on computer
My computer does not recognize my ipodtouch. I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, but the computer does not show the ipod. I tried to follow suggestions and find the apple usb driver, but it does not seem to have updated the driver. (The driver is located on the C drive, but the date is not from today's update... it is an older driver and does not open, it asked Open With... ) ERRRR, I'm disappointed that the Ipod Touch was working, and now it's not charging or recognized on the computer.

Ipod Shuffle not recognized by computer and iTunes and does not charge
I connected my iPod to my computer but for some reason, it is not recognized at all by the computer nor iTunes. It doesn't charge either. I have tried all the USB ports and since I have Windows Vista, I cannot use the Restore Utility thingy. I purchased my iPod about 2 years ago so a warranty replacement is out of the question. Since any choices have been kicked off, can anyone find a solution to my problem? TYVM pl0x
Time to replace it: $49 2nd Gen shuffle at online Apple Store...

IPod touch Not recognized by Computer but charges?
Hey all
Want to ask you to help me.
My iPod touch 4th generation is not recognized by the computer, when I plug it in, nothing happens. I got my working iPod touch 4th generation and plugged it in to the computer and the computer made that ding sound and itunes recognized it.
It is not the computer problem in this case. I just restored another 4th gen iPod Touch last night and it connected and everyrthing so this is a problem wirth te unit itself.
If this helps any, the screen was proffesionally replaced. (not by Apple)
Any help is appreciated, thanks.I checked the dock connector and the corners of it are worn to a tiny copper wire on the left side but it's not sticking out. My other 3 iPod touches 4th gens have the identical thing, 2 have it worse in fact, yet, they connect to the computer fine. It is a problem with the iPod itself...
I bought the iPod like this after the screen was replaced from eBay. It was like this before the screen was replaced anyways.
Any other ideas? -
IPod touch not recognized by computer
I just got my hard drive reformatted, as something was wrong with it, and now my iPod touch won't sync with my computer. I'm using the USB 2 cord that came with it--if I plug it into the wall charger base, it charges fine. But when I plug it into my computer, nothing at all happens. My iPod does not start charging, it does not start syncing, the computer does nothing. It's as if I didn't even plug it in at all. I really don't want to drive across town to the apple store again. Does anyone know what's wrong or how I might fix this? Thanks
Did you reinstall itunes, using a new download from the Apple homepage?
Is your ipod showing in the system profiler/ usb highspeed ports?
Did you already reset the ipod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes up?
Did you try to connect in recovery mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
