My ipod used to and reciently it never does the only way it works is hard disc mode and I don't want to keep doing it and damaging the ipod, why does it do this and what can I do to fix it without going to apple (cause it costs too much)

Have you tried changing the drive letter of your ipod? This may work.

  • My Ipod touch has quit connecting to the computer for no apparent reason.  Anybody got solutions?

My Ipod touch (1st gen) has stopped connection to the computer suddenly.  This happened once before and I switched computers and it worked fine on the other computer.  now it has done it again with the 2nd computer.  1st computer still will not bring it up in "my computer".
Has anyone else experienced this problem and have a solution for it?

  • TS1538 My iPod that's constantly connected to the computer decides to auto sync and thus delete all the pre existing songs, absolutely infuriated

My iPod stopped playing music through the earpiece but works fine as a hard drive connected to the computer.
It's been like that for over 6 months, so today upon unhibernating the computer iTunes decides it doesn't recognize the iPod and syncs the current library thus deleting all my old songs. Is there a way to restore it to before it synced? I want my songs back I'm not going to be able to get half of them again... I'm absolutely furiated over this

  • IPod Error Message when connected to the computer

When I have my iPod connected to my computer and listening to it's music through the computer, or even just updating songs onto my iPod, I always get an error message.
It doesn't really do anything, except it's just there and it's bugging me...On the bottom right of my computer where the time is- thats where the message pops up and it keeps on coming back every 10 minutes or so.
    The message says-
    iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory /iPod_Control/iTunes/Temp File 1 is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
How would I go about fixing this, and what the hellll does it mean?????
Thanks in advance for the help

I've sort of figured out what the error message means- as in what it does to my iPod...
I am unable to add music to my iPod anymore. Anytime I connect my iPod to my computer and try to "safely remove it" with the eject thing, it says it is unable to because it is being files from my iPod Mini are being used by other files(I completely shut down all other music files and still received this message)...
So since I am unable to "safely remove the hardware", I have to do it without clicking the little eject iPod thing. When I do that, my iPod doesn't save any of the music I just put on it, and it comes out exactly the way it was before...
Any idea how to fix this, and how I got it???
And for some reason...My iPod keeps on telling me theres not enough room on it for any more songs when their is over 2.3 GBs left...
    What issss going on here???

  • My ipod touch 4 will connect to the computer then disconnects. PLEASE HELP!!!

I have an iPod touch 4th generation. I got it in Dec 2011 I believe. I really haven't had any major problems with it until just recently. Normally when I would upload pictures from my iPod to my PC it would have this menu bar pop up and then I could choose to upload them to the computer. Now when I plug it in that option doesn't pop up anymore. In fact, it will make the connecting noise and then just a couple seconds later it will disconnect. I am really wanting to upload some pictures to the computer to make some space on my device.
So if anyone has any suggestions to how I can fix the connecting problem OR a different way to upload my pictures on the computer that would be great!
And it isn't the syncing cord. I have tried  4 different ones and one of them being brand new.
My computer has windows 7 by the way.

    Does iTunes see the iPod?
    If not:
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

If you can, try a different USB port.
If you can charge the iPod from a wall outlet, charge to 100%, then try connecting to your Mac.

  • Ipod 1st Gen Not Connecting to the computer and not being recognized

Hi my friend is having some issues with her ipod first generation it is not being recognized by the computer when she plugs it in and when she opens itunes it does not show up. the only thing she can do is charge her ipod from the computer, if anyone can help that would be great thanks!!

Could be any number of reasons.  One of them just may be your refusal to update iTunes.  Just because others are having issues does not mean you'll have them!
iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes

  • My iPod is no longer connecting to the computer...

I think my iPod is dead. If it is, I'm seriously going to cry.
It's the 4th gen model with the 40gig harddrive.
I have tried multiple times to connect my iPod to both my iMac and my PC. It won't connect... on my Mac, it doesn't even show up at all. On my PC it shows up in file manager, but when I try to click on it it tells me there is nothing connected.
I have tried both my USB and my Firewire cables and the actual dock...
I can hear the hardrive in my iPod continually spin when I connect it to either computer as it is trying to make a connection... it won't stop spinning until I disconnect it.
Am I SOL? Is my iPod dead? I really hope not... if anyone has any suggestions to help me fix this problem, please help. It seems as if it happened suddenly.

Wow... I found this in another thread from the user DocBlueDog, I did this and it worked.
Looks like Apple's latest update screwed up a lot of iPod owners... that's horrible.
Anyways, if anyone is having the same problem, try this:

Just got off the phone with amazing tech support guy at www.ipodresq.com -
He talked me through this without having to send in my ipod. AMAZING.
(This is a second hand description. Evaluate it and try it at your own risk).
So disconnet your ipod. Quit Itunes.
Go to your utilities folder and look for ipod updater.
Inside you'll see a folder IPOD SOFTWARE UPDATER and DISK UTILITY.
Open DISK UTILITY AND the most recent updater IPOD UPDATER 2006-01-10.
Reset your ipod by holding down the menu key and the center key together until an apple logo appears. Plug in your ipod.
Ideally you will see it in disk utilities. In the ipod updater go ahead and hit RESTORE. Yes this will wipe your ipod of all data but hopefully most of it is in itunes or on your computer.
When updater is done HIT CANCEL and then quit updater and quit disk utilities. It should be on your desktop.
Just to be safe disconnect your ipod and reconnect it. (superstition).
Launch itunes. It may attempt to update your entire itunes library. Mine said there was not enough room so I just hit cancel.
Then I couldn't drag anything to the ipod because the ipod options were set to automatically update and I had to change it to manually update. Now I am relouding my librarys to my ipod which is working with my computer again.
WHY I should have to deal with calling apple and being told my ipod needed to be sent in to be repaired is beyond me. Love this companies products but wish they would step up more on support.
    Good luck.
    All best,
    Rob

  • My ipod has not been connecting to the computer properly

when I plug my ipod w/click wheel into my imac, the ipod says do not disconnect. After waiting for 5 minutes nothing happens in itunes or on the finder. I cant eject the ipod properly so i have to do i manually. I also can not update or restore my ipod. It has become very frusterating because my whole library is on my old ibook and I cant figure out an easy way to transfer my music to my new imac. can someone aswer these 2 questions?

It has become very frusterating because my whole library is on my old ibook and I cant figure out an easy way to transfer my music to my new imac.
If the iBook has a FireWire port, hook up both machines with a FireWire cable. Start up the iBook with the T key held down, and then use these instructions to copy the iTunes library to your home folder on the iMac. If you will be moving the library to the current location of the iTunes music folder on the Mac, rename the existing folder while iTunes isn't running and stop following the instructions after step 4.

  • Why can't I use the Column Browser for my iPod when connected to the computer?

In iTunes 11, I can use the Column Browser while viewing my music library on the computer.  But it's inexplicably not available for viewing the music on my iPod when it's connected to the computer to sync.
The Column Browser is the simplest, easiest, most elegant way for me to review what's on my iPod, and create Playlists from my music and CD books.  It was available in 10.7 and is available on the computer, why not the iPod????!!!???
Why mess around changing something that isn't broken - after all these years why can't that option still be available?  It doesn't have to be the default, just be available. Will I have to downgrade to 10.7 yet again????
And you don't even have a relevant category for me to choose from below!!  It makes sense to me that you provide a general "Using iTunes" category.

Thanks for your reply, but I've already done that and the Column Browser options are completely grayed out.  I've taken a screen shot and hope I can paste it in here.  You'll see I have the sidebar open.  That's the way I prefer to deal with iTunes.
This happened after I updated to iTunes 11.0.4.  Perhaps that changed the setting options. I think I had the Column Browser option prior to that, but I just got a new iPod and I was busy loading stuff, so not completely sure if it worked before the update.  But I think I would have noticed, because it bugs me so much not to have the option.

  • When ever my ipod is connected to the computer and download an app it wont install, when ever my ipod is connected to the computer and download an app it wont install

when ever my ipod is connected to the computer and download an app it wont install in itunes 11

    What happens when you try?
    Can you sync music?
Have you synced apps from this computer/iTunes library before? You an only sync app from the one syncing computer you can have.
Are the apps compatible with your model iPod/iOS
Do you have restrictions set that would prevent installation of those apps?

  • My iPod is dead and won't charge or connect to the computer. How can I fix this?

My iPod is dead and won't charge or connect to the computer. How can I fix this? Before it died, it said I had a full battery whenever I charged it, but as soon as it came off of the charger, the battery level was always under ten per cent.

Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced.
