My iPod won't finish updating!

I decided to update to iOS 4.0 because I heard the next update was coming out soon so even if I didn't like it, it would be fixed anyway. I plugged it in and iTunes let me know there was an update. I hit Restore and Update and it began updating, It extracted software perfectly. It then sent the stuff to apple, did all the other stuff it has to do, and began restoring. All is well until about 95% complete when it froze. I left it there over night and woke up the next morning to find nothing changed. I finally force quit iTunes and shut off the iPod to try again, worked perfectly until it reached 95%, nothing happened. I then proceeded to spend the next 4hrs reading all sorts of stuff online. I have attempted DFU mode with no success, I've tried to restore it on seperate sign ons on my MacBook Pro, and even gone as far as to download 3rd party applications to try get it out of recovery mode. It is now stuck in recovery mode and is unusable. Any suggestions would be great.

By the way its a 3rd Gen 8GB

Maybe the following but your descrption of your problem is not clear.:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • After installing Yosemite, iPhoto won't finish updating.

I just installed Yosemite, then my iPhoto application wouldn't open until I updated the database. So I clicked update and it has been over an hour, but the upgrade can't get beyond 7/8 finished.

I've had the exact same problem. Installing Yosemite on my MacBook Air and the subsequent iPhoto upgrade went smoothing. But on my IMac desktop machine I am experiencing the same issue of the app failing to finish updating the database; I also get about 7/8 and then the spinning beachball. I've restarted the computer and shut it down and then restarted, neither worked. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • The ipod won't finish downloading updates.

I am having trouble getting my ipod's (2 of them) and my iphone getting updates.  Here is the problem.  I connect them, click to update.  The computer says 4+ hrs to finish download.   All is well but it seems to stop when the computer goes to sleep.  As long as I messing on the computer, it all goes according to plan.  This happens to the phone and to each of the ipods so it has to be me doing something wrong.  The same thing happned when trying to restore an ipod.  It started and says going to take long hours.  Leave it alone and it just fizzes out.  What am I doing wrong??  Thanks!!!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • IPod Won't Finish Sync

So, today I've had to restore my iPod to factory settings about our times now. Every time I try to re-sync all my music back, it'll slow down significantly and stop around after 1700 songs or so (out of roughly 3700). When I try to eject my iPod, iTunes crashes and the files already copied do not show up on my iPod. When I reconnect to my MacBook, it shows everything I copied as "Other" and not "Music." I've tried this several times already and it still won't work.
EDIT: Make that five restores tonight.

So now I've also tried connecting it to my Windows PC and restoring it, and iTunes does the exact same thing. It locks up on one song and never finishes the sync, and crashes when I try to eject.
My iPod didn't start doing this until yesterday.

  • Connecting iPod won't start updating from iTunes?

When I have connected my iPod to my PC recently, the "Do Not Disconnect" message comes up okay on my iPod, the PC can see it but iTunes ignores it entirely. In other words, iTunes just sits there and refuses to start updating.
I have rebooted, restarted, reset, etc, all to no avail. iTunes simply can't see my iPod. Any thoughts as to how to update my iPod?
    Thanks, Brian

What did you use to covert them? The iPod has rather specific conversion requirements where as iTunes is a bit more relaxed. So it is perfectly reasonable to have video files that will play in iTunes but are not right for the iPod (bit rate too high, etc.)

    Hi kathy4556,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your issue. If you are unable to update or restore your iPhone, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

If your iPhone still isn't responding at all, then this article may be more useful:

  • IPod won't finish start up

I have tried this with it plugged in and not plugged in....I had to force shut down my iPod about 12 hours ago, and now when attempting to turn it on, the screen comes on with the apple logo, and stays for about 5-10 seconds then goes black.  The computer will not recognize it when plugged into it, is there a way to restore without the computer?

You could try to get into single user mode and see if you can fix things. It will be hard to do. Why don't you try to get into a single user mode and let us know if that works.
You need to get into single use mode.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
    http://www.securemac.com/macosxsingleuser.php
Basically, you hold down the command-s key when powering on. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar.
( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. ) The setup commands you need should be listed on the screen. For Mac OS 10.4.11, the commands are:
    # Type the follow two instructions to accessing the startup disk in read/write:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    # To find out the users on the system type, use the list command:
    ls /Users

  • New Ipod won't finish syncing...?

I have just received a new Ipod, a 5th generation touch, and I have been trying to put my music on it all day. I have tried restarting both the ipod and itunes. I have restarted my computer. I have uninstalled and re-installed itunes. I have restored my ipod. I have tried dozens of things and no matter what it continues to get stuck at step 5: Changes Waiting to be Applied, and it will go no farther. I have been at this all day and I'm ready to tear my hair out. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Apps wont finish updating - iPhone6

    Hi,
Im having trouble with apps not fully updating. Ive currently got two apps that have only updated half, at the most. I can pause it by clicking on the icon but nothing else. Neither of these apps appear in the App Store update section, so I cant even cancel the update.
Also, like my old iPhone 4s, not all of the apps show up in the App Store update section after they have been updated.
Is this an issue with the iOS 8 software or the phone?
    Thank you
