My iPod won't sync on my Windows computer...

I've been trying to sync my iPod touch with my computer for some time, but it has not been working. At some point of the syncing process, iTunes freezes. Therefore, I cannot complete the process. How do I fix this problem? Thank you for your help

i updated my i tunes to version 10 yesterday and today it asked me to update my ipod software(32gig ipod touch 3rd generation) so I said yes, it downloaded everything and when it synced up it said it could not complete download error -9. I tried to different cords and usb ports got the same response then it locked my ipod and said i had to restore and update and it would not restore either I took to best buy where i purchased they got it to restore. Brought it home and will not sync and restore with my purchases locks up and just sits there saying it is copying a song but does not do anything. Also I have my desktop and laptop listed for home sharing but on my side bar i do not have shared or sharing listed so i can copy songs from one computer to the other.

  • My iPod won't sync to my new computer!

I recently purchased a new laptop, and I transferred all my music, etc from my old iTunes to the one on my new computer. But I think it's trying to sync both my old iTunes library and my new one because I get a message saying that there's not enough room, which doesn't make sense. Help?

Do you have any content stored in your main iTunes library? Can you play your music in iTunes?
When you setup iTunes on your new computer, did import the music from your old library into your new one?
If need be, here is an article providing information on how to transfer music from your old computer to your new one.

  • IPod Won't Sync After Moving Music to New Computer

With the help of someone here, I moved my iTunes Library from my old computer to my new one. It didn't work exactly like it was supposed to. All of my music is on my new computer and in my iTunes library, but my playlists, counts etc. are gone. Whatever - I'll deal. Now, though, my iPod won't sync with my new computer (which I did authorized). The "Do Not Disconnect" sign never goes away after I connect my iPod. Thoughts?

*I'm afraid to plug in my iPod in fear of it erasing my playlists...*
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different iTunes. You'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
*but should I plug it in to restore playlists??*
Your playlists won't be restored by simply connecting your iPod to iTunes.

  • New computer, ipod won't sync

My old iBook's hard drive had some water damage, so I got a new MacBook. But now my ipod won't sync with my new computer unless I erase what I already have on my ipod. How do I get all my non-purchases off my ipod before reformatting to my new computer?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Tried to sync iPod Touch, noted "new" iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried the fix, but iTunes hangs when I try to open Preferences.

Just tried to download new audiobooks to my iPod Touch 3, and noted new iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried to Reset Sync History per Support Article, but it didn't work. My purchased audiobooks are also gone from my iTunes Library.  Any fix, or is my best bet to uninstall new iTunes and reload earlier version??

  • IPod won't sync to iTunes - Please help! Tried everything

My iPod won't sync to iTunes. I pug it into the computer, the computer recognizes the device. It automatically opens iTunes once it's plugged in. I was able to system restore via iTunes when the iPod was connected and it wiped the iPod. But when I hit sync it doesn't sync. When I hit the sync button for about 5 seconds the wheel will rotate on the iPod screen and say "syncing" but nothing happens on the iTunes side, (you know normally when your iPod is syncing at the top of the iTunes window it will say "syncing" and you can see the process happening as it quickly runs through the new music it is uploading, this doesn't happen.) I tried restarting the iPod and the computer, system reset, I checked in the control panel to make sure the apple device was started, (which it was,) and even bought a new sync cord to be sure. Nothing. Any ideas?

I was running into the same/similar problem. Is this a new computer but old ipod?  In other words, does your ipod contain music from a previous pc?  If so, that might be the problem.  I bought a new pc and adequately transferred my music from old pc to new pc.  My itunes library on new pc was where I wanted it to be.  But when I tried to sync my ipod later, it wouldn't sync.  Would stop at first step like yours was doing.
If this is the case with you, open your ipod information on itunes.  It will automatically be on "Summary".  Click on "Music".  You will see a box labeled "Sync Music".  Click on that box.  Then you have the option of checking "Entire Music Library" or "Selected playlists.....".  I chose entire library.  When you sync, it will warn you that you will be erasing contents of ipod and replacing with contents of this itunes library.  Like I said, my library was good.  So I chose ok.  It synced fine after that.

  • My ipod won't sync. keeps coming up with error message saying ' itunes could not back up ipod because a session could not be started with the ipod' help?

My ipod won't sync to my itunes. Keeps coming up with the error message 'itunes can not back up the ipod because a session could not be started with the ipod? it has been coming up with this message for the lst 2 weeks now. Will let me charge it but won't let me sync anything. Really not sure what to do or where to start or anything!

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You  should be making backups of your content regularly, either through  iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a  external drive.

  • Reinstalled OS -- iPod won't sync!

I'm a newbie to Apple, and goggling didn't seem to help...
I have an iPod Touch, and I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 RC. Unfortunately, now my iPod won't sync!
Also, I just got an iPhone as well as changed my Apple account name / email. The iPhone syncs without problem, but I can't get the iPod to sync at all.
Do I need to change my Apple id back, or is there anything I can do so I won't lose the apps on my Touch?
Thank you so much for your help!!!

Also, my hard drives are partitioned, so it's the exact same library -- just a different OS, a new version of iTunes (I think), and a couple of extra ringtones I created. Exactly the same otherwise.
I also tried changing my Apple account id back to the old email -- this works to let me access the AppStore on my Touch, but screws up my iPhone. I read syncing will change the account info, but I can't sync! I have apps on the Touch that I paid for and don't want to lose.
    Help please!

  • ITunes opened another library, now iPod won't sync

I have a Dell laptop with iTunes installed on it, and an iPod touch 5th gen. with the most recent software update. But Windows just recently had an update and so I updated the software of my laptop and iTunes continued to work fine. But just a few days ago I turn my computer off and the the next day turn it back on in an attempt to sync my iPod but when I plug my iPod into the computer before I open iTunes, the iPod makes it open automatically and the terms and services agreement pops up. And I'm thinking why is this here again b/c I haven't updated iTunes or anything but i know it won't open unless I agree, so I agree. (But oddly, I think it said "save" instead.) So I click whatever it says (save or agree, I can't really remember) and iTunes opens but it's an older version of my library.
All my most recent songs are gone, and my iPod won't sync b/c it's not being recognized by iTunes. (When I started syncing this iPod with this computer I had to make it start over completely and erase all data to make it forget my old computer.) But now that it's the wrong iTunes library, it won't sync anymore. :/
I don't want to have to erase all my data again...But why did it do this? I've tried to go through and make it open the other libraries (holding shift and clicking on iTunes to tell it to open another library), but I can't find the most recent one. I'm assuming the library is still there on the computer but I can't find it, but I didn't delete anything and iTunes never warned me of any issues, so the library has to still be on the computer some where. I tried closing iTunes and reopening it but that didn't work, neither did turning the computer off and turning it back on.
    How can I fix it?
Sidenote: all my songs were consolidated to that particular library. (If that matters.) And my iPod still seems to be working fine.

I had the same problem on my iphone 5s, and this fixed it. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5335

  • My ipod won't sync any of the music i downloaded and says that iTunes can't backup the Ipod because a session couldn't be started with the Ipod how do i fix this

My ipod won't sync any thing in my iTunes library it always stop as soon as it starts backingup the Ipod a message appears that says iTunes cannot backup the Ipod "my Ipod" because a session couldn't be started withthe Ipod how do i fix this problem?
This is exactly what the message says: iTunes could not back up the iPod "austins ipod" because a session could not be started with the iPod.

Try connecting your ipod to another computer and sync only 1 file or song just for isolation purpose only to see if it'll sync.
If still not syncing, then porbably you may have a bad iOS installed in iPod which is hard to see if it has a problem because you said nothing's wrong with iPod. I just saying is, it MIGHT have a bad iOS.
If you are unable to do a restore, put your ipod in DFU mode, then connect to iTunes and iTunes will detect your ipod in restore mode. Press shift key (PC keyboard) then click the restore button on iTunes. I hope you have your copy of IPSW file for restoration purposes.

  • I have one of the original IPOD's and just tried adding a bunch of songs, (200) and now that they're on my computer my ipod won't sync as it now says i need about 8.45 more gb. any thoughts on this?

I have one  of the oriignal IPOD's circo 2006.  I've got about 150 tunes on it which has been fine but today tried to add another 200 or so and was advised I need about 848 MB to load them.  Is there any solution.  I have 2 playlists.  One with the original 150 tunes and one with the addiitional 200 tunes. Thoughts as now my IPOD won't sync at all and I don't want to delete any of the songs if I don't have to.

How much storage on the IPOD  -  I have one that has 60GB on it.   Also have an IPOD shuffle that held less songs.
As your IPOD does not have enough storage for all of your songs, you have to create a list to sync to it that does not exceed the storage size.
For instance my IPOD shuffle had its only list of songs that did not exceed storage.
The IPOD gets them all because I only loaded the songs from my CDs that I really liked into ITUNES - leaving out the ones I skipped over.

  • 5th Gen iPods won't sync

my 60 & 80 gig iPods won't sync to iTunes. When I connect them, they appear in iTunes, but I cannot add or delete music and several of the playlists don't show up on the iPod. My newer 120 gig iPods work fine. This started on 8-8-10. I am running the current version of iTunes.

I've been having the same problem ever since I upgraded to iTunes 9. Before the update I never had any issues syncing new songs or playlists. I have purchased several new albums and haven't been able to get them synced to my iPod. When I plug in my iPod I get the syncing message and the "Do Not Disconnect" message shows up on my iPod for about 30 seconds to a minute, but when it finishes nothing has been added and the storage amounts haven't changed.
