My ipod won't sync songs-not even one!

I have 1GB nano and it hasn't been working for a while. It was originally saying that "itunes cannot detect the ipod" but I realised that was because it was trying to sync all of my songs which were more than 1GB. Then I pressed a couple of things and deleted all the songs off my ipod by accident(They're still in the library though). Then I unchecked all of my songs except one so it only had to sync one song but it won't even do that! When I press sync it comes up with the little bar at the top but the bar doesn't fill up and it just stops trying to sync. Can anyone help?

It does only sync a few songs from all the albums. For example, Megadeth - Rust in Peace do have 13 songs in iTunes. On my iPod there is only 4. Have you experienced it?

  • Ipod won't sync - do not disconnect error

I tried to load some new songs onto my nano (just before I went on holiday) and they wouldn't appear so I naturally went through the 5Rs. Net result, not only will songs still not appear on the nano, I now have no songs at all on it!
Here's what currently happens. I connect the ipod to the laptop. itunes boots up and treats the ipod as "new" i.e.: asks to confirm the name etc. It then does the whole sync thing, taking ages, before confirming that sync has completed ok. Meanwhile the ipod is showing the "do not disconnect" screen. Here's where the trouble starts. The ipod remains on this screen - even though itunes says that the sync is complete. By clicking on the disconnect button from within itunes, itunes seems to lock for a long while until (eventually) the ipod is released and disappears from within itunes.
So, what I can determine is that the ipod and itunes can "talk" to each other but somewhere along the line they're getting their wires crossed. Seems to be some form of corruption, but despite reading these forums and the Apple "help" pages, I've not been able to resolve it.
    Any ideas?

The answer was given to me by Kylene. It was due to a conflict in drive naming by Windows. See the attached:

  • Ipod won't sync with Itunes even after restore

    Hiya,
When I plug my ipod into my computer, it recognises it's there, but it won't sync with the ipod & update the music on it.
I restored the ipod using itunes so now there's absolutely nothing on my ipod at all, but it still won't sync with itunes, so I have a completely blank ipod...
I've only had it for about 3 months so am not impressed...
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Miranda

My was doing the same thing. But I figured out how to fix it. My computer was not recognizing the IPOD so I had to reset the drive letter. Click on Start, then go to the Control Panel, Click on Adminstration tools, Click on Computer Management, on the left hand side of your screen pick Disk Management from the box, it will take a few seconds then it will pull up a list of all your computer drives, highlight your Ipod, then right click and change drive letter or path, I changed it to "I" for ipod. My computer then recognized my Ipod. I opened up itunes and my sync worked then.

  • IPod won't sync songs

Okay, a few months ago I copied some songs onto my iPod from a CD, and they synced just fine. I synced the iPod to another computer to upload files onto it, but it still worked just fine on my computer afterwards. But now the songs I copied from the CD are not on my iPod and will not sync to it. The same songs are still on my iPhone, but why won't they sinc to the iPod? Please help!

I have noticed that it seems to be a bit rate size problem. My iPhone only adds songs or vids less than 127bps. Now, it's possible that it could be slightly higher, but that seems to be the limit of the stuff I have. Nothing 158bps or 160bps or 192bps or 256bps syncs over, though it did last week! Is it possible this limit was inadvertently imposed in the last update? Problem only appeared after last iTunes update. Could have been with 3.0 update but I don't think so. However I have noticed when they do sync, after I play them or partially play them they disappear from the playlist on the iPhone, should I go to another app and them come back to it.
I don't want to reduce the bit rate, I want iTunes to fix itself, gol-darnit!
Anyone know of a solution or heard of this?

  • Ipod won't do ANYTHING, not even charge, when i connect it to computer.

So I have the 5g and have never had a problem before until now. I connect it to my computer: nothing happens. doesn't wake up, doesn't charge, doesn't sync. tried it on another computer: same thing. Tried all of my usb ports: nothing. The usb ports are good, also. Tried another cable: nothing. Now here is the interesting part...I connected it to my third party car charger and it works fine. The thing is, I can't sync it with the car charger...So if any one can help, please don't be shy.

Ok guys, I read somewhere NOT ON THE APPLE SITE that this could be a problem with something called the logic board. You can either buy one and replace it yourself or there are some sites that will do it for you. I'm not sure if apple will do it unless you bend over backwards, call 15 phone numbers, and pay for some sort of ipod protection crap or even at all. So do whatever you think is right and I hope everyone can get their ipods workin' again.

  • 5th Gen IPOD - Won't Sync and Not Seen by Windows

    Help!!!
Tried the 5 R's. I have the IPOD in Disk Mode but whilst it will happily charge, it still is not seen by ITunes or Windows Explorer (though is visible inDisk Defragmenter). I have already un-installed and re-installed ITunes etc.
Prior to putting it into Disk Mode the IPOD still had my library on it and owuld happily work.

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

  • I have one of the original IPOD's and just tried adding a bunch of songs, (200) and now that they're on my computer my ipod won't sync as it now says i need about 8.45 more gb. any thoughts on this?

I have one  of the oriignal IPOD's circo 2006.  I've got about 150 tunes on it which has been fine but today tried to add another 200 or so and was advised I need about 848 MB to load them.  Is there any solution.  I have 2 playlists.  One with the original 150 tunes and one with the addiitional 200 tunes. Thoughts as now my IPOD won't sync at all and I don't want to delete any of the songs if I don't have to.

How much storage on the IPOD  -  I have one that has 60GB on it.   Also have an IPOD shuffle that held less songs.
As your IPOD does not have enough storage for all of your songs, you have to create a list to sync to it that does not exceed the storage size.
For instance my IPOD shuffle had its only list of songs that did not exceed storage.
The IPOD gets them all because I only loaded the songs from my CDs that I really liked into ITUNES - leaving out the ones I skipped over.

  • My ipod won't sync. keeps coming up with error message saying ' itunes could not back up ipod because a session could not be started with the ipod' help?

My ipod won't sync to my itunes. Keeps coming up with the error message 'itunes can not back up the ipod because a session could not be started with the ipod? it has been coming up with this message for the lst 2 weeks now. Will let me charge it but won't let me sync anything. Really not sure what to do or where to start or anything!

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You  should be making backups of your content regularly, either through  iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a  external drive.

  • My ipod won't sync music because it says ipod does not support the music, although it previously downloaded the same music onto the ipod

    Newest ipod gen,
My ipod won't sync about 89% of my library because 'it doesn't support the song' but I previously had the songs on my ipod, downloaded from the same computer. Itunes on my computer had issues and I'm now re syncing all music. How do I get my music back on my ipod if Itunes says it can't be synced?
    Thanks!

  • Won't sync songs, iPod corrupted, HELP

my computer won't sync songs to my iPod and it says its corrupted. what do i do?

A restore will put your iPod back to factory settings including deleting all of the content. This is usually the only way to repair a corrupted iPod, see the link below for how to do a restore.

  • My ipod won't sync any of the music i downloaded and says that iTunes can't backup the Ipod because a session couldn't be started with the Ipod how do i fix this

My ipod won't sync any thing in my iTunes library it always stop as soon as it starts backingup the Ipod a message appears that says iTunes cannot backup the Ipod "my Ipod" because a session couldn't be started withthe Ipod how do i fix this problem?
This is exactly what the message says: iTunes could not back up the iPod "austins ipod" because a session could not be started with the iPod.

Try connecting your ipod to another computer and sync only 1 file or song just for isolation purpose only to see if it'll sync.
If still not syncing, then porbably you may have a bad iOS installed in iPod which is hard to see if it has a problem because you said nothing's wrong with iPod. I just saying is, it MIGHT have a bad iOS.
If you are unable to do a restore, put your ipod in DFU mode, then connect to iTunes and iTunes will detect your ipod in restore mode. Press shift key (PC keyboard) then click the restore button on iTunes. I hope you have your copy of IPSW file for restoration purposes.

  • 5th Gen iPods won't sync

my 60 & 80 gig iPods won't sync to iTunes. When I connect them, they appear in iTunes, but I cannot add or delete music and several of the playlists don't show up on the iPod. My newer 120 gig iPods work fine. This started on 8-8-10. I am running the current version of iTunes.

I've been having the same problem ever since I upgraded to iTunes 9. Before the update I never had any issues syncing new songs or playlists. I have purchased several new albums and haven't been able to get them synced to my iPod. When I plug in my iPod I get the syncing message and the "Do Not Disconnect" message shows up on my iPod for about 30 seconds to a minute, but when it finishes nothing has been added and the storage amounts haven't changed.

  • IPod Won't Sync After Moving Music to New Computer

With the help of someone here, I moved my iTunes Library from my old computer to my new one. It didn't work exactly like it was supposed to. All of my music is on my new computer and in my iTunes library, but my playlists, counts etc. are gone. Whatever - I'll deal. Now, though, my iPod won't sync with my new computer (which I did authorized). The "Do Not Disconnect" sign never goes away after I connect my iPod. Thoughts?

*I'm afraid to plug in my iPod in fear of it erasing my playlists...*
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different iTunes. You'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
*but should I plug it in to restore playlists??*
Your playlists won't be restored by simply connecting your iPod to iTunes.
