If nothing works, then you may have no choice but to go to an Apple Store. If it comes down to that, make an appointment with the Genius Bar.

The iPod does not need to be turned off to reset it. Here are the instructions for resetting the ipod. If this fails to do the trick you may want to try and do a restore.

  • My ipod nano just won't turn on. Please help!!!

Ok. So yesterday I was listening to my ipod and everything and I realized it was running out of battery. So, before I went to work I placed it on the charger as usual. Now this morning I get up and decide I'm going to listen to it again and the screen is black and won't turn on. I even hooked it up to my computer and itunes won't recognize it. I placed it back on the charger and nothing. And, I even tried holding the menu button and the center button at the same time. (because that usually works, but, only when the screen showed the apple icon) And nothing has changed. Please please help me! I really hope it's not dead for good. It is older but there are songs on there i don't think i can replace again. Please help!

Was this a wall charger?  I was told by an employee not to use a car charger to try and charge my 7th gen Nano.  Also, I plugged it into my work computer and it worked for 30 seconds and then went black. For some reason this kills the battery dead.  Computer wouldn't recognize it and it would not turn on UNTIL I took it to the Apple store and they plugged it up, then it worked.  If you can head to the Genius bar and get a quick once over. These 7th gens are very finicky!

  • My ipod touch won't turn on. Please help!

I plugged it into the computer and the computer couldn't recognize it. Then when i unplugged it, it shut off and won't turn back on. I tried restoring it, updating iTunes, holding the lock and home button for 10 seconds, and putting it in recovery mode, but nothing seems to work. It's never been jail broken, and I've only had it for about 2 months. Anything else i can do to fix it?

You can try placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if iTune will see it:

  • IPod won't connect and charge--Please Help

hey all. I've had my video iPod for a while. Here's the problem: it was recently connected to a random windows PC, and now it won't work. It was fully charged last I knew, and when I tried to use it it wouldn't turn on. Rather than doing that, it would show the apple logo, then light up, then turn off and one of the two battery charge signals would appear (those being the large one and the smaller more modern looking one). I've connected it to two other computers, one being a windows laptop, and I've recently realized that the computer (any of the three) no longer realizes that there is a hardware connected. If anyone can please help I'd greatly appreciate it.

I hav a 30g video ipod aswell and am having a similar problem. I connected it to a friends computer who did not have I tunes and it my ipod froze and has never connected to my computer since. This was about 6 months ago. It will not charge on my computer, in fact my computer does not even recognize that there is anything connected to it.
I have tried resetting but that has done nothing, if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks!

  • My laptop won't turn on. Please help! VAIO E Series Model: SVE14112EAW

Hi, I badly need some assitance regarding with my issue. I forgot to charge my laptop for a couple of days. Then, when i remember it, i immediately charge it and wait until it become fully charge or until the battery light charging went off. Then, at bedtime when i decided to use my laptop. The power light lit for a while then it turns off again. And when i itried to use the adaptor, the battery light won't light. I already checked the adaptor, and i guess nothing is wrong with it because the ac light is okay. I also followed those previous guides for troubleshooting this kind of problem but it never worked.
Please help me, what do i do, i am really worried. I am afraid that i will never use it anymore. I am afraid that my motherboard is defective. Is there a chance of survival? To all of you guys who experienced this, do you still use your laptops after taking some repairs or not anymore??? Hope you can help me. Or you share your experiences to enlighten me. Thankyou...

    Hi yamaey01,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
I am sorry to hear your issue. Based on your description, it sounds like this is a hardware issue already. But please consider the steps below, let's isolate the issue:
Power cycle - remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Or (if the battery is not removable) remove all peripherals -> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> press and hold for 5 seconds (you may use safety pin for that). This will drain the electricity of the computer. Charge again the laptop and test.
If the battery is removable, just remove it. Plug in the AC adapter then try to turn on the laptop.
If both steps didn't work, then we can say that this is a hardware issue. It could be the motherboard, but we cannot tell that right away. It seems that your Vaio SVE14112EAW is not a U.S. model. You may visit Sony's Authorized Service Center nearest in your location.

  • IPod won't sync to iTunes - Please help! Tried everything

My iPod won't sync to iTunes. I pug it into the computer, the computer recognizes the device. It automatically opens iTunes once it's plugged in. I was able to system restore via iTunes when the iPod was connected and it wiped the iPod. But when I hit sync it doesn't sync. When I hit the sync button for about 5 seconds the wheel will rotate on the iPod screen and say "syncing" but nothing happens on the iTunes side, (you know normally when your iPod is syncing at the top of the iTunes window it will say "syncing" and you can see the process happening as it quickly runs through the new music it is uploading, this doesn't happen.) I tried restarting the iPod and the computer, system reset, I checked in the control panel to make sure the apple device was started, (which it was,) and even bought a new sync cord to be sure. Nothing. Any ideas?

I was running into the same/similar problem. Is this a new computer but old ipod?  In other words, does your ipod contain music from a previous pc?  If so, that might be the problem.  I bought a new pc and adequately transferred my music from old pc to new pc.  My itunes library on new pc was where I wanted it to be.  But when I tried to sync my ipod later, it wouldn't sync.  Would stop at first step like yours was doing.
If this is the case with you, open your ipod information on itunes.  It will automatically be on "Summary".  Click on "Music".  You will see a box labeled "Sync Music".  Click on that box.  Then you have the option of checking "Entire Music Library" or "Selected playlists.....".  I chose entire library.  When you sync, it will warn you that you will be erasing contents of ipod and replacing with contents of this itunes library.  Like I said, my library was good.  So I chose ok.  It synced fine after that.

  • MacBook Pro WON'T TURN ON. Please help!

I'm an editor and rely on my computer daily. Please help me.
I purchased my 17" MacBook Pro back in April of 2008. It was dropped once the first year I had it, with no noticeable damage (thank God). I've had no major issues with it, until today.
I was editing on it earlier this afternoon, and when I was finished, I put it away in my incase backpack like I always do. Put it in my trunk, went on some errands, and just returned home.
I took it out to power it up. I hear the internal start up sound of the hard drive waking up and trying to spin (no apple sound) and then it just dies. Black screen the whole time. No logo. Nothing. The white light on the button to open the screen turns on and flashes, and then goes off too.
I'm really freaked out that it's dead. If I can't start it up at all, is there any way to retrieve my files from it? I have some things backed up, but there's a lot of stuff I still need off of it. My main priority in all of this is just making sure I can save my files.
If this clues anyone in as to what's wrong, a couple of days ago the screen started twitching black for about 2 minutes intermittently. I'd never seen it do that before, and it stopped shortly afterwards. Is this just my computer being three years old and pooping out on me randomly?
Please help. I'm freaking out. I need all of my software.
    Thanks!

I just logged in and the software did not return me to this page. How Primitive. It's Sunday for me, the launch day for my new international business. My Skype meeting was to be held on my Macbook Pro. The Apple staff have all decided that this day isn't very important for them, so they're at the beach. My Macbook did not turn on all day, even with the SXX reset or whatever you call it. Ctrl Alt Shift Power. I heard a little click each time I did this, to no avail. In desperation, I turned the 'laptop' (that's what the REAL world calls them) over and saw weird screws for a rare type of screwdriver. I pressed down slightly on the metal casing and heard a few of the clicks like with the SMC reset. I wondered if that would make a difference.
I turned my computer over, opened it up, pressed the power button and it worked immediately. THE INTERIOR OF THE 2011 MACBOOK PRO MAY BE SHODDILY ASSEMBLED. My battery life is 4.5 hrs max at 50% brightness in safe mode with no 'programs' (not f***ing 'Apps') running. When I browse the internet at 50% brightness in normal mode, the battery lasts 90 mins, although I have never pressed the metal casing on the back of this laptop gently to reassemble the inner workings of this machine before, so it could last for 100 hours. Nope, I'm down to 87% after ten minutes. It's back to normal.
Summary: To fix your Mac, hit it with a hammer. Hopefully it'll break so you can go back to Windows and actually see how many Firefox windows you have open and right click on things to bring up the menu instead of aiming your mouse for every tiny thing onto pinheads like a frekkin surgeon.

  • My MacBook Air 2011 11" won't turn on. Please Help!

    Hey Guys!
So I used my computer last night and it was fine, but when I woke up this morning, it would not turn on. I tried pressing the power button, but the screen showed nothing and the fan began to run really loudly. After a while of trying this over and over again, the fan stopped running so loudly and the computer (by itself) would try to turn on and then would fail and then try to turn on again. I tried different things that other forums told me to do, but now the fan is running loudly again when I try to turn it on.
I am currently living abroad in Imbabura, Ecuador, so I do not have easy access to an Apple Store (or Macmundo, as they are called here) but I will make the trip if I have to. So if anyone else has experienced this problem and knows how to fix it, I would be very very grateful!
Thanks! And I hope everyone has a great day!

  • My iBook won't turn on! PLEASE HELP!

I was having problems with the CD drive last week, then, this morning, I went to turn him back on and he won't turn on. I push the power button and he starts to start, but nothing happens. The processor starts whirring and doesn't stop until I remove the power source. I had this problem in March (I only got the computer last august) and took him to the Apple store, he was shipped in and they replaced his processor. My real question (since I already know what the problem is) is that even though my warranty ran out last month, should the processor that was only installed 6 months ago still be covered. Because if not, that is pretty crappy that every 6 months my computer seems to break in the SAME WAY...could there be something wrong with the rest of the comp that is causing this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I called the 1.800.My.Apple number and asked for customer relations. He asked why I needed to talk to them, I told him, he said that they wouldn't be of any help. He said he could transfer me to tech support, but since I don't have apple Care it would cost $50. So he said he could give the website to go on to ship it or give me the number of the closest service tech. I told him I didn't need to talk to a service tech, I needed to talk to someone about the fact that I shouldn't have to pay for the processor breaking TWICE in one year. (It is my theory that it has something to do with this defective/overheating battery. Maybe the battery over heated and caused damage to the processor.) The only thing he said he could do was give me the service tech guy. He seemed like he felt bad for not being able to help me...but, that doesn't really do me any good. What should I do? If I call this service tech guy, he'll charge me, he won't care because the "twice in a year" thing isn't his problem. And, if I send it in...how am I supposed to say "Ok...fix this but I won't pay for it!" That is something I need to establish before hand. The only thing I can think of is taking it to the apple store, but the closest one is a 2.5 hour drive! and, what can they do. Any suggestions? I don't know what to do and I have to get this computer fixed.

  • IPod won't sync after restore - Please Help!!!

    Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to read my posting.
I have a 3rd Gen 40gb iPod which was running the 2.2 firmware on Windows XP, which has been fine up until recently. The songs started to randomly skip during playback; this went on for a few weeks. So I decided to restore/reformat the iPod using the iPod updater software and this is where the problem started.
I downloaded the most up to date updater from Apple and updated the firmware to version 2.3. However when I came to sync my iPod with iTunes (ver 6) it would start transferring tracks and get about 5 or 6 on there and then it would hang and not transfer anymore and my iPod would just say Do not disconnect. This happened about 3 or 4 times. I decided to restore the firmware on my iPod to 2.2 using an older updater and now iTunes won’t see / sync my iPod at all…
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or what I should do to sort the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Windows PC   Windows XP

I would suggest that you go to firmware version 2.3 again (as opposed to 2.2), as this may be why iTunes isn't recognizing it now.
But, I understand that after you restored your iPod (with the 2.3 version), iTunes would bog up after updating only a few songs.
I think it's probably better to have 2.3 instead of 2.2. Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter when you connect it.
Log off of any other users on your computer.
Then, connect your iPod. When you connect your iPod, press and hold the "Ctrl" and "Shift" keys for about 20-30 seconds. This will prevent automatic-syncing from happening in iTunes.
After you've stopped automatic-update setting, assign your iPod a different drive letter (see below):
1 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
2 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
3 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
If you need any additional help on how to follow these steps, post back with the details of your issue, and I'd be glad to try to help.

  • Computer won't turn on. PLEASE HELP!

Hi, my iMac's internet connection was a little dodgy yesterday, so after trying for an hour to turn it on, it didn't work. I switched the computer off, leaving it for a couple hours, in the hope it would work better when I got back.
I went back to the computer and tried to switch it on, only to hear the 'turn on' noise, go to the white page with the apple logo, when the screen would turn grey and a sign saying something like, 'Please restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds' popped up.
I turned it off, and kept trying to turn it on, with this message still appearing.
We called up a business and we were told to insert the Mac OS X Leopard disk, and hold down the 'C' button. After that, the CD loaded and we went into 'Utilities' > 'Disk Utilities' > Verify > Repair Disk. When the check was complete, it showed that nothing was wrong with that part of the computer. (I'm guessing that it means rhere were no configuration parts missing or something..?)
Has anyone experienced anything similar to this or has anyone got any advice?
My computer is only 10 months old and I'm desperate to get it back as quickly as possible without losing my data.
I'm very appreciative to any help.
    Thanks for reading
    ~ Shelly

I was reading on my PC about kernel panics, and decided to try starting the iMac in safe mode (by holding down the shift key on turn on). It worked, and I am typing this message from the iMac..
I have been reading alot on kernel panic's, and I was just double checking that if I completely reinstall leopard, will all my pictures, documents etc, be deleted?
If so, are there any other options??
    Thanks for anyone's help.

  • My IPOD won't turn on can you help???

My ipod touch completely died over the weekend. I tried to charge it through 2 different wall socket adapters and my laptop. Nothing happened, no symbols on the screen, laptop didn't recognise it. I have tried the whole "hold down the power button, hold down the home button" with no results. My ipod becomes very hot to touch when on charge as well. I have no idea how it died as I was away over the weekend and left my ipod at home. I use it everyday and have been doing so for just over 2 years without a problem like this. I have had a previous ipod that had a problem similar and was fixed by holding down the power and home screen buttons. I am really stuck for ideas as i do not have money to have it repaired and it is out of warranty.
