My ipod won't update or restore.

My ipod touch will not update or restore. It's 4th generation. 4.3 software. and im trying to update it to 4.3.3. I'm on a windows computer running Vista. I have done all updates to windows and itunes.
I get error code 3194.
I have tried everything suggested on the apple website.
I have tried:
recovery mode
dfu mode
manual update
reinstalling 4.3.3 software
and other things.
Can you help me?

The same thing happened to me, I called Apple (Is your Ipod still have the free 90 days free phone call?) they told me it was my battery. They said they think I should buy a new one. I did not. I didn't think it is really my battery. Are you connections clean? Have you tried different USB hubs? I've heard the USB's in the back tend to give off more power.
Hope this helps.

  • 3rd gen iPod won't update or restore with iTunes 7

Ok, so my iPod has been kinda messed up for a while... it's getting a little older, and the battery is pretty much shot. During my last attempt at getting the iPod to sync with iTunes (a few weeks ago), I somehow managed to get it into disk mode, and I don't know how to undo it.
Ok so that's one problem, but I don't know if that's affecting my iPod now or not.
I have just recently--within the last couple of days--started trying again to fix my iPod. I've been looking at the support site, following any instructions I can find, and to no avail. Unfortunately, the time I decided to start working on my iPod was the same time the iTunes update came out, and from what I hear, people have been having many problems with iTunes 7 and iPod updater 2.0.
I hook my iPod up to my computer, iTunes recognizes it--which is an improvement over the last version of iTunes, which didn't know my iPod existed--and the first time, it tells me the iPod is corrupted and need to be updated or restored. So I hit ok, then click "restore." It goes through the motions of restoring, then tells me it has restored, that it will then restart, and then show up on the "sources" list in iTunes, but it never shows up. The iPod itself says "OK to disconnect," and shows NO sign of restarting. I disconnect and reconnect my iPod, and then iTunes tells me the iPod is in "recovery mode" and needs to be restored. Same deal. Says it's restoring but nada. Now it does that same thing everytime I connect it.
Is it just that my iPod is completely shot? Or is it because I'm trying to update it with a shotty version of iTunes? I'm stuck. Can someone PLEASE help me?!

Well, stopping the iPodservice didn't make any difference. Apparently the iPod is so shot that iPodservice wasn't doing anything anyway, so it formatted fine even with iPodservice running.
So here's the deal. I have been able to format my iPod. I've already done that. It's completely erased, formatted, redone, everything. But it will not restore in iTunes. Using iTunes 7, it shows up in the source list, but iTunes says it has found an iPod in recovery mode that needs to be restored. So then I click restore and it says it has restored, but it doesn't do anything. Just goes to an OK to disconnect screen. Unfortunately, I don't know if this is just an iTunes 7 issue or not, because my iPod doesn't even show up in any other version of iTunes.
I tried many different things... when I restart my iPod and it isn't connected, it goes to the Apple, but then it comes up with the folder and exclamation mark icon, while the disk is whirring away. When I restart it while it is connected, it restarts, and iTunes says the same thing about the iPod in recovery mode.
I tried putting the iPod into diagnostic mode, as is suggested in the intermediate steps in one of the posts, but because I can't even restart the iPod, I can't put it into diagnostic mode.
I even tried what appeared to be the miracle fix for everyone's iPods--hitting it on the desk on its upper right corner. No such luck. I think my iPod is shot... and I just realized how much it costs to send yours in and get a replacement refurbished iPod... It's just not worth it... but then again, it seems like it's probably not worth it to get a new iPod now, either, since none of the software seems to be working correctly, and since I seem to have bad luck with electronics... maybe I'll wait until Microsoft comes out with their new media player... I should definitely be looking into something other than an iPod, since they obviously suck right now.

  • Ipod won't update or restore!

I bought a new iPod 30gb video recently, and I can't do anything on it! I didn't have trouble in the beginning, but now, when I plug my iPod in to my USB port, it is recognized in windows, but not in iTunes. I have followed the steps outlined in the iTunes support section, but those only fix that problem for a single use.
Also, when I do get my iPod recognized in iTunes, it comes up asking if I would like to update the software on my iPod. I have clicked yes on that, but it ran for two straight days, and never finished, I had to manually close the task!
RESTORING THE IPOD WILL NOT HELP. I tried this also...and it ran, saying "Restoring Ali's Ipod" for about seven hours before I closed it!
    What is going on!?!?!

Wester: I have worked through ALL Of the tasks and workarounds in Article 93716. Twice now. It is NOT working. I did at one point realize I needed to perform a Windows Update (it was a minor update to something) and it gave me false hope that that would fix my problem, but to no avail. How many times must one uninstall then reinstall (and all the steps to clean up the temp drives, etc.) the iTunes 6.0.5 and then the iPod Updater only to have this still continue to happen? I did run into one error when trying to clean up my temp. directory, it stated that it could not clean up the whole thing that it was in use, so wish I knew what files/tasks to delete to ensure they were deleted. I guess I need to email/call/chat with Apple Support since this is going on many hours now.
Anyone know how to help out?
Lastly, the iPod Updater is "grayed" out and wonder why it is like that? Once I click on it, neither remove or update (or whatever the two radio button options are) are enabled (again grayed out) and so it's as if the Updater isn't really there anyhow. Why would they cause such torment? Can I try a prior version of an updater and NEVER update to this miserable 6.28.2006 version (which seems fit only for a silly Nike promo. which I don't want)?

  • Third Gen ipod won't work or restore

My friend has an old ipod with the click wheel. I think it's third generation. He hasn't been able to turn it on, and when it is connected to the computer it isn't recognized in Itunes. A couple times, a message popped up that said it needed to be restored because it's corrupted, but we can't get the window to stay up to even restore it. We've also tried resetting it, but that won't work. The computers have the newest version of itunes. We've run diagnostics, but the ipod connection always fails. The ipod won't update or play music. An the apple icon appears, and then a folder icon pops up that says to go to support. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. He doesn't have Apple Care.

I am having the same problem.
So you're saying the problem is with the USB?
If I go to the Apple Store they will have this "USB/Firewire" cable.
    Thanks for your help!

  • IPod Won't Update - Is iTunes 7 to blame?

I started having problems with my iPod's playback - skipping songs in a playlist and skipping to the next track before the end of the song - I then tried to add songs (and update calenders etc.) using iTunes 7 (having only just downloaded it) and then everything stopped working.
The iPod registered on the computer and in iTunes - the contents of the iPod appeared in ITunes too, but it refused to accept new songs - when I tried to add songs, iTunes said it was updating, but it froze on the second song and iTunes then crashed.
I have restored the iPod and reinstalled iTunes 7, but neither of them work - the iPod won't update and iTunes constantly crashes (particularly when playing and pausing songs). I tried downgrading to iTunes 6.0.5 - which works fine - but the iPod still would not update.
Are these problems due to iTunes 7 being rubbish or do I have a broken iPod?? Is there anything I can try??
I have also just realised my mistake in putting this question in the Fifth Generation iPod forum, as I don't have one. Apologies for that - I have an iPod with click wheel but I don't seem to be able to move the question!

  • My 2003 IPOD Won't Update with Purchased Music from ITunes

    Hi!
My 2003 IPOD won't update with my Itunes purchased music when I sync.
I have reset, restored, updated with the latest versions of IPOD updater as well as Itunes.
Still no purchased music on my IPOD.
    Can anyone help me?
    2003 IPOD

Specific songs from the iTunes Music Store don't play
Try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer. Repeat the deauthorization and reauthorization process for any other iTunes Music Store accounts for which your computer is authorized.
1.Double-click one of your affected iTunes Music Store songs.
2.Enter your account name and password in the resulting dialog.
    3.Click OK.
After you've deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring your iPod.
After you've restored your iPod, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try recreating your iTunes library.
After you've recreated your iTunes library, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu.

  • Playsists selected for syncing no longer exist? ipod won't update

    dell inspiron   Windows XP

Hi guys, I've been having the same problem. Specifically, when I try to transfer songs from iTunes to my iPod I get the following error message: "Songs in the iPod "My iPod" cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist". I did some searching around at this site, and found that one possible problem is that my library is larger than my iPod's capacity, so I have to eliminate some songs. I did this, but I still get the same error message.

  • I deleted my "iPod Slection" playlist and now my iPod won't update.

I don't know exactly how it happened but the songs on my original "iPod Selection" playlist got messed up and so iTunes automatically created another "iPod Selection Playlist" and I didn't want the songs it put in that playlist on my iPod so I deleted it. But now my iPod won't update because it says "your iPod cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for updating no longer exist." If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Seems like you've got auto sync with your iPod and it is looking for a specifically named playlist.
    Check your preferences.
Create a new playlist and sync that.
    Regards,
    Colin R.

  • Nano won't update or restore in iPod Updater

-My nano when connected to my PowerBook does not show up in iTunes
-When iTunes is opened, it askes if I want to do a software update for the iPod
-In the updater, it says that it is formated in Windows, and will not allow me to restore it (saying that I need to hook up with a Firewire), nor will it let me update it (saying that only macintosh formatted ipods can be updated).
-I know that i need to restore it in OSX but it will not let me, and using the disk utility to restore it has not seemed to help.
-I tried using a windows computer to restore it, which i was able to do, but it would not let me update it on my mac.
    Any suggestions?

Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Plug your iPod with your Mac, open the iPod updater and hope it will allow you to click RESTORE.
    If still doesn't then
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

  • WON´T UPDATE OR RESTORE IPOD IN ITUNES 7 !! HELP !!

I am having problems updating and restoring my ipod in itunes 7. It simply disconeects Ipod when asked to do so.

    hmmmmmm.
it might be worth quickly checking on the issue from this document:

(my diffidence here is because it's a fairly new issue, and i don't have a good feel for the "symptom sets" associated with it ... still, it does no harm to check.)

  • IPod won't update software

I have downloaded the latest software for my shuffle and for some reason it won't update. The only I get is Restore. This is the same for the 1.1 version. My iPod no longer plays any music. It only flashes orange and green. Any suggestions would be very useful. I just want my shuffle to work.

If it is flashing green and orange, this is normally not a good sign. A call to Apple iPod Tech Support may be in order... sorry

P.S. Did you try resetting it?

  • IPod Classic wont update OR restore

Well, I've had my iPod Classic (80 gb) for about a year now. For a few months it's been trying to update but I haven't been able to because it keeps having an error while downloading it. So I just haven't been updating it since It wont let me. The other day my iPod kept skipping songs and doing crazy stuff so I plugged it in and it said the iPod was corrupt and I needed to restore it. So I tried that and it said update and restore. I keep trying to update it but it still won't update, therefor it wont restore. And thats the only option I have. Any suggestions or help?

For a few months it's been trying to update but I haven't been able to because it keeps having an error while downloading it.
What has that error message been saying, Bre?

  • IPod will not update or restore

Whenever I try to update my iPod I get a pop-up that says it can't be updated because the filmware file could not be found, and when I try to restore it all it does is delete my files but it still won't update it. Could it be because I'm not using the same computer as I was first using when I set up my iPod? Plus there's a dicoloration on the screen, that's new, but I don't think it's related.

Do you have iTunes 7? If not try downloading it. Then plug your iPod in, go to the iPod summary and you will see an update button. Click it and it should download the latest update. And i don't think the restore button updates the ipod, just sets the iPod to all the setting that it was on when you first got it. (not sure someone might need to clarify this)
