My ipod wont register on my itunes

so here's the deal.. i've rebooted my ipod and everytime i plug it in to my computer it goes through the whole scan disk mode and it comes back with a checkmark but my computer wont recognize it or something. i'd really appreciate some help getting it up and working again. do i need to get a new ipod updater on my computer or does anyone out there have any ideas what i should do. thanks oh and its not for windows actually i didnt mean to post it in this forum.. sorry

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

There should be a Continue button in the lower right hand corner of the window you need to continue to continue and complete the registration process. If you are unable to see this button, try adjusting your monitor's resolution.

im sorry if this has already been mentioned but i couldnt find a topic, well i have an ipod nano that i bought a while ago, and i had just found it agian, so i tryed to get some new songs on it and it wont register on itunes, dosnt come up with it being there at all, i have reinstalled itunes several times, and have got the update for itunes 3 times now, anyone know what i have to do?

Ipod wont register what songs i have listened to?

i've had an ipod nano for a few years now and it work fine up until a few months ago when it froze on me. i was able to reset it and it still works but i have recently noticed that when i connect my ipod to my computer to charge it wont register want songs i have listened to (for example the play count or when it was last played) it's not much of a problem cause i can still listen to it but i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Your sync settings may have changed. I have my ipod to NOT automatically sync and it never tells iTunes how many times I have played the song. But because I have my iPhone sync, it tells the computer how many times I listen to the songs.
I do not know if this will help you, but it may point you in the right direction.

ive got a fifth generation video ipod, and i think ive got itunes 6.0.1 or something of the sort, and whenever i hook it up to my computer via usb, the ipod displays the "do not disconnect" symbol but wont show up on itunes.

Ipod wont show up in itunes after installing update

okay so i hadn't updated my ipod in a couple of months (bad i know but we have really slow internet here and it takes forever to download things) then i downloaded the update a couple of days ago and it started installing then came up with an error saying it failed.
It was late at night so i just switched off my laptop and went to bed, and the next morning i tried to turn on my ipod and it was stuck on the connect to itunes screen. When I plug it in it comes up with a box saying "Windows needs to install device driver software for your Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)" I clicked the locate and install device driver software, but it can't find anything.
It wont come up in itunes and i've tried the restoring thing, but it's not working...maybe i'm doing it wrong? idk help anyone?

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! Downloaded 9 point whatever it was, and then it said i needed to update my iPod, so i lugged it in, all was hunky dory and then it said i had to restore my iPod and so i tried that and now it wont restore it, keeps coming up wit some whacky error and the iPod is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and its driving me insaaaaaaane!!!!

Well I've had my 30 GB Ipod since July 2007, got it as gift. Have kept it in GREAT condition too! I still even have the plastic on the screen. I treat it like if it was my child but this week though a problem has occurred. When i go to plug my Ipod in to get new music the Itunes library wont read it. A message also comes up saying that the device has malfunctioned. Just last week it wasn't saying this and worked perfectly. Its still able to charge though and I'm still able to listen to music on it, Just wont be read by Itunes. It constantly says that the Ipod is charging too. Convincing me that it has to do something with the USB port. Ive tried multiple USB cords too. Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Among other things, the cable might have been pulled before the on screen warning says it's okay.
1. Put the cable in USB port of your computer and start iTunes.
2. After sync, unclick "Enable Disk Use"; it should stop charging.
3. You may have to reload your music, if the iPod's directory is damaged.
Also, make sure you have the latest firmware and software updates.

I have plugged my ipod into my mac and it charges, but wont show up in itunes or on the desktop, I have tried resetting the ipod, reinstalling itunes and checking for all updates. I have also changed cables, ports and plugged it into a different computer and the same thing occured. The ipod is not new, and it used to work, now i just want to re-sync it.

Did you:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

we have two different usb's so im pretty sure they arent the problem (they work with the wall charger but not the computer)
im not very computer smart so dont expect much knowledge on my part : )
we've connected with the comp before, but it just stopped connecting

Back up first (Time machine) as much as possible.
Un-install and re install Itunes.
First and foremost download the updated iTunes from apple website. After downloading Uninstall itunes and all its component ( Dont worry, itunes library where your movies and music is located will not be deleted. Please follow instructions on the apple support page). The problem might be the AppleMobileDevice.kext
