My iPod wont turn off?

I find it unusual that as soon as i get my new iMac its now plugged in all the time, since then i haven't been able to turn it off which i find somewhat strange!
wondering what the solution to this is or has anyone else had the same problem?

I tried and I gave up and left it on, at the end of my passing period. I drained much of the battery, and this is recurring.

Ipod wont turn off in the dock

i have an ipod connected to the apple universal dock. the ipod wont turn off after it has been charged, the screen shows that it is fully charged. how do i turn it off without removing it from the dock? i have both my ipod dock and the tv connected to the same set of speakers...the tv sound ouput is very low if the ipod doesnt turn off since both of them share the same speakers....if i remove the power to the dock, the speaker again outputs full volume from the tv. any ideas?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

i have a new 60GB ipod video and i got it 3 month's ago and it wont turn off i have tried pushing down the play/pause button but it wont work, HELP PLEASE!!!!

I had a similar problem with my dad's iPod Nano, here's a way to fix it for ALL iPods:
1. Enter Settings
2. Select Main Menu
3. Switch the last option: Sleep to On
4. Select Sleep from the iPod main menu to turn it off, then (of course) put the Hold switch on Lock.

Ipod wont turn off using home button only.

I got my ipod touch yesterday at the apple store, and today, it wont turn off if you hold down the home button. It shuts down if you use the power button on the top left corner, but not with the home button. Th home button works fine for everything else. Can anyone guess what the problem is?

And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The only way to power off the iPod is using the Sleep/Wake button at the top of the iPod as you described. There is no way to turn off the iPod using the Home button.

Ipod wont turn off the first time.

When i go to turn off my ipod(photo) it wont turn off so i let go of the play/pause button and try it agen and it turns off. anyone know whats going on?
p.s. when i try the first time and it dosent work it dose sound like the disk stops spining but im not sure

i did nothing to my ipod to make it not turn off. i was listing to it for a while and when i decided i was done using it i wanted to turn it off and it wouldnt work. i can go from one song to the next with no problem and i can pause it and all that good stuff but it just wont turn off. i tried letting it cut off by itself( put ot on pause and wait for a couple of min) but its been almost a half an hour and it still hasnt turn off. please help me!!!

Have had the same problem for a couple of weeks. Have tried the 5 Rs and other tips found on this site. Nothing seems to work. Only thing that does work is if ipod is connected via USB and itunes is running. It can then be turned off and will remain turned off when you disconnect your ipod. But this isnt much help if you have to connect to your computer each time you want to turn your ipod off! Still waiting for a complete answer I'm afraid ......

Was very happy with the Ipod Touch until a recent problem occurred. Appreciate any assistance. The Ipod Touch will not turn off - If I leave it for the designated 1 min till sleep occurs it continuously attempts to turn itself back on displaying the start up apple logo. If turned off completely the Ipod touch still attempts to turn itself back on. The issue then is you cannot re-start the Ipod without connecting to a computer. The system all functions normally then until again sleep (or attempted sleep) comes about. Have tried restoring settings - no luck. Remove all content and restore settings - no luck. tried restoring via I tunes hard core style - still no luck. Have latest software installed as well. Appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Took the Ipod Touch to the Apple Genius (????) If a genius is required what does that say about their software and products. Anyway - end result was the Ipod Touch does'nt turn off b/c of faulty off button. Genius!
So replacement model is forth coming.

Help! Ipod wont turn off

The sleep function on my 20 GB Click Wheel Ipod has ceased to work, I can click the white centre button on the sleep option and it makes a "clicking sound", but nothing happens
The ipod goes to sleep when paused by itself but it I then try and flick the hold switch when its in sleep mode it turns the ipod back on
Anyone have any ideas how I can solve this?

First what do you mean it won't turn off? DOes the screen stay on or what?
To turn off an iPod or put in in "Sleep" mode in other words, you just hold down the play/pause button til the screen goes off

Have you tried resetting your iPod? (hold menu and center buttons together for 7 seconds. Do this a few times)
Does it now work after resetting? Also, whenever you are having difficulties with your iPod responding to button-pressing, put your iPod down on a flat hard surface (like a desk), then click your button(S). See if it works.
Go to "Settings> Main Menu" and turn the Sleep button "on". Go back to your back the main menu again, and see if the "Sleep" button will work if you click it. If it does, that's your temporary fix.

Ipod wont turn off sometimes

so about 4 months ago my ipod will randomly not like to shut off. I will hold down play/pause button and all the screen does is shut off the backlight and not the actual ipod. i can see the screen, but with no backlight. when i let go it lights back up again. i have re-started my ipod plenty of tiems and set the settings back to the default ones. someone help me?

I don't know. Are ou SURE you hit the right button before? Perhaps you WERE holding the Menu button rather than the Play button. I would wait and see if happens anymore to you as I think you might have just had a brain f a r t and were using the wrong button.
By the way, you must have the old v1.0 firmware in yours like I have in mine. If you don't want to lose that backlight toggle functionality, do NOT update your firmware.

Ipod shuffle 2nd gen wont turn off

my ipod shuffle wont turn off! it is 2nd gen i think it is silver with clip on on the back. when i pause it it will pause but when i turn switch to off green light still flashing and will still play if press play button any ideas? or do i buy another one . it is about 9 months old.

thanks for your reply. in the end i took it to an apple service centre and coz it only 8months old got it replaced for free in two days, seeing as im in darwin i was quite impressed!!. i agree it is made cheap but i use it for the gym and no other portable music player is equipped with the clip on the back which is the most simple design feature and no-one is catching on. have seen the new one , which looks brilliant, if my replacement craps itself after its 1 year warranty then i will just get the new one. thanks again for the reply.
