  • Ipod wont restore and update. network connection timed out. help!???

I restored my ipod touch 2g 8gb. I went into itunes and followed the steps. I clicked restore and update and it goes through the whole process and gets all the way to the end and it says ipod software update (processing file) then a pop up comes up telling me "there was a problem downloading the software for the ipod. the network connection timed out". i've tried it in different usb ports and i've turned off the firewalls. still nothing. does anyone have a solution for me?? i've been trying for a few days now and i've look all over the internet to fix this issue. i'm at the point i'm just annoyed so i'm posting here for help. any help would be awesome! thanks

When you get anything that says your network connection timed out it either means you lost internet connection or there is something blocking the connection between the computer and the servers that it is trying to connect to.
If you have a solid internet connection and can browse to websites fine it's either an anti-virus program or a firewall on the computer OR a firewall in the router's settings that you use to connect to the internet.
Reconfigure any security software to allow Apple's servers to pass.
Useful information for configuring your security software:
IMPORTANT: iTunes must be allowed to contact Apple using the following ports and servers:
    port 80
    port 443
    phobos.apple.com, deimos3.apple.com, albert.apple.com, gs.apple.com, itunes.apple.com, ax.itunes.apple.com
For a more complete list of ports used by Apple products see "Well known" TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products.
iTunes also contacts VeriSign servers during an iPhone restore and activation:
    evintl-ocsp.verisign.com
    evsecure-ocsp.verisign.com
For more information see Update and restore alert messages on iPhone and iPod touch
Temporarily disable or uninstall your security software
If the current available version of your security software is incompatible with iTunes, you can disable the security software and test if it is the source of the issue. It might also be necessary to temporarily uninstall security software after making sure you can reinstall it and note any required licenses. A temporary deinstallation might be required because parts of some security software remain active in the background though they appear to be deactivated.
To reduce any security risks that security software is designed to prevent, consider making sure all files needed to reinstall it are available and disconnect network connections before uninstalling security software. Should this not be possible, such as if a download without active security software is required, that required step should be the only process completed without security software. For assistance in checking your configuration, disabling, or uninstalling your security software, please contact the manufacturer.
Once disabled or uninstalled, perform only the steps required to verify your issue has been resolved. Complete whatever update, restore, syncing, back up, activation, or other task you were troubleshooting. Once that task is complete, install and configure compatible security software to ensure your PC is protected.
If it isn't a program or software on the computer contact your Internet Service Provider and/or Router Company to configure or disable the firewall in the router settings.
To isolate the issue to this you can also try disconnecting the router and plugging your computer directly in to the modem but this does not help for troubleshooting time-out issues directly on any apple mobile devices only if you are syncing or going through iTunes on the computer.

  • IPod Touch won't update ("Network Connection timed out")

My iTunes will not update me or my brothers 4th gen. iPod Touch's or another iPod Nano (the new touch screen one). It says that the network connection timed out. How do i fix this. (Trying to update to 4.3.3)

Disable your computer's security software such as the firewall and antivirus.  Also try rebooting your computer. modem and router.  Some say using a wired connection between the computer and router helps.

  • IOS4 update network connection timed out

    Hi
I am experiencing a problem downloding the new iOS4 update. I already disabled the windows firewall. The problem persist, the file seems to download fine on iTunes but at the end the process the same message shows up "Network connection timed out". Any idea how could I solve this. Thanks.

Is there anyone at Apple that views 'this' as a problem. 'This' = all the comments in this thread.
    1-network connection timed out
2-'resume' doesn't resume, it takes it again, from the top, 0kb downloaded (of 579.3MB!!!!!)
3-tried again and again and continues to fail
4-suggest a 'solution' is to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it??!?!??! - you have to be kidding. On top of that, it is 'not easy' to uninstall - you have to go through all of these steps in the right order - just check with the Apple web site about how to uninstall iTunes??!?!??!?!!!??!
This is the sorriest excuse for software I have ever seen. I am running iTunes 9.2.0.61. I just bought iPhone 4. It is iOS4, trying to 'update' to 4.0.1. How can you POSSIBLY need 579.3MB to 'update' from 4 to 4.0.1? How can you possibly not realize you have already loaded 500MB and just resume from where you left off? How can you possibly have a complex procedure to uninstall a product - is there another product anywhere on any PC that is that hard to uninstall? If so, I think you would have a hard time finding it.
I wish someone from Apple would get on this website and provide more guidance/direction. I am running Vista Service Pack 2. My 'network' is simply AT&T DSL - it doesn't seem to be having any problems except with iTunes loading software updates. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't download software updates in iTunes - error message "network connection timed out"

I'm unable to download software updates for my iTouch 4.1 in iTunes.  I have iTunes version 10.5, Windows 7.  i've tried numerous times in the past and always get the same error message.  I'm now experiencing problems with some of my apps. and I've attempted 4 times in the past 2 days to upload version 5.0. It goes thru the whole download (761.61 MB), says "processing file", then closes out and I get the following message:
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod "xxxxx's iPod". The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are current and your network connection is active or try again later. Err = .3529."
I ran diagnostics and it said everything was fine.
Also not all the apps. on my iTouch are in my iTunes library even though I've synced my iTouch numerous times since I've purchased the apps. with my iTouch.  All the apps on my 2nd screen are on iTunes, but none of the apps. on my 3rd screen of my iTouch are in iTunes.

iTunes has to be able to contact Apple during the download of the software and the update process.

  • "network connection timed out"-can't update upgrade on ipod

Last year an ipod touch 8GB was given to me and I am just now updating everything. When I plug my ipod into my computer and open itunes, it prompts me to download and install 3.1.3 upgrade. So I hit "download and install" and right after it gets done downloading (takes 7 min), an error message pops up and says "network connection timed out"- could not install the upgrade, try again later. I have paid the 5 bucks for the upgrade and tried it about 10 times now with the same results everytime.
I have tried turning off my router and restarting that and also reset my network connections on the actual ipod itself with re-typing in my network name and password for the wifi. My wireless connection is strong and never goes out on me, as well as my ipod always recognizes it and connects automatically so I'm not sure why I keep getting this error message!
    HELP!!! thx

I ran into the issue this week. said yes to upgrade, ipod was backed up, and then upgrade died. ipod touch itself indicated it was no longer aware. power down did not help, itunes could not restore to previous. Looking on apple site, I was getting a code 14 error. solution was to update itunes to 9.03, restart system and then retry the download. it worked after that, and the backup did restore all my info including kindle books etc.

Hi all i won't update my iPod touch 4 generation to ios 5 but there are win the download end its showing a massage (the network connection timed out)

Okay. I've tried syncing it first, resetting it first, downloading the firmware, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, I've checked my connections and ports and everything, run all kinds of diagnostics, and nothing is working. Every time it says it's backing it up, my iPod resets and then it's back to square one. I'm going to restore it and see if that helps. What a pain in the butt, especially since it wouldn't back it up.... >.<

  • HT201263 Please help, I'm extremely frustrated.  Have 4th G ipod touch stuck in recovery mode.  Tried connecting to another computer to restore.  Goes through 75 minutes of ipod software update then get a Problem downloading.  Network connection timed out

Please help, I'm extremely frustrated.  ipod is stuck in recovery mode.  Connected to different computer to restore and after 75 minutes of downloading get a message that there was a Problem downloading, network connection timed out.  Cannot get past "connect to itunes" on ipod.

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves that error.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

    Hi christeag,
The only thing I can identify as an issue is that your Windows Firewall is running and iTunes is not enabled in it, so this may be the source of your issue. Here is an article for you that will help you rectify this situation:

For PC users, before reinstalling, try this:

    then type in:
    netsh winsock reset
hit enter, restart PC, open iTunes. Hopefully fixed.
