My ipod wont work, at all!!!

I just got my iPod a couple months ago, and this morning i was putting new songs on it.
When I disconnected it from my USB cord, it would not work, at all.
the hold button doesnt work, i cant move it, it wont play songs, it just sits there, on the songs menu, and the screen is lit up, and wont turn off.
it just stays lit up, sitting there, and i cant get it to work!! HELP!!
i also tried restoring it to the factory settings, but it wouldnt let me do that either.

sometimes the battery has to drain itself, have you dropped it or has it come it contact with any liquid if so then you have a problem but if not you might have to wait a day or two for the entire battery to drain it happended to me once it took that time for it to drain then it had to be recharged and reset but you should have nothing to worry about

My Ipods wont work at all

My Ipods software was updated to the newest version yesterday. until then everything was working fine, but every since I updated it now my ipod keeps displaying a charger being plugged in a electric outlet. I think its asking me to charger it with a wall charger which I don't have. before this I would usually charge it with the usb cord but now it wont charge any more, nor does the ipod show up on my CPU or my itunes. I don't know what the problem is, can someone help me?

I have the exact same problem, except I'm out of the country and my AC charger is at home, because it won't work over here and I was relying on charging it on my computer for the time I was over here. Just from looking around it seems the software upgrade has messed quite a few people up.

I allowed my friend to borrow my iPod touch 2g 8gb , and he reported it just shutdown unexpectedly in the middle of his use. So I got home, put it on charge, and restarted it, then left it to charge overnight *7pm-6am , and when I checked on it , it wouldnt turn on at all. It will not show up on Itunes, or as a device connected to the usb port. I checked msconfg, and nothing shows up. My itunes is up to date, and I also tryed to reset it once more via usb hook-up , and holding the 2 buttons down.
-It has been dropped before, and it never seemed to interupt anything ,and the crack goes from the bottom right to the upper right corner broken into 4 branch's of cracks.

I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes, it is saying i have to restore my ipod touch to factory settings, will i loose all my films by doing this, as now my ipod wont work anyway unless i restore ?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

The new itunes update will not install properly and now itunes wont work at all

k, so I tried installing the new update for itunes and now it wont work at all. it says that the mobile device isnt installed. i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 4 times now.

My issue is it wont even reinstall onto my computer
Yes I'm aware of that. The procedures are also for trying in cases where iTunes can't be reinstalled due to a "Could not start Apple Mobile Device service" message.
If you're getting a different error message relating to the Apple Mobile Device Service (or Apple Mobile Device Support) when you try to reinstall iTunes, post back to let us know what that error message says. (Precise text, please.)

Probably dead if you have tried to charge it.
You should never try to charge or turn on a wet electronic device.
You should let it dry for a week or so, then try.

Connect it to itunes, and see if itunes recoginizes it.
If not, then hold home and the power button to do a soft reset.
If not, then you will need to go into recovery mode.
To get into recovery mode you need to Hold Power + Home at the same time. After it goes blank, continue holding the home button while releasing your finger from the Power Button.
You should be able to do it. Otherwise, you may need to send your Ipod in for repair.
NOTE - Using recovery on your Ipod will erase all data and reset all settings.
