My IPT is meditating...

Hi folks. I was minding my own business...
I'm having problems with my IPT. It was working fine, then I set the IPT in to charge it. iTunes did not turn on. I opened iTunes myself and received (I think error 9). The message told me to restore the IPT.
It seemed to do the restore thing, then stopped.
Right now the screen shows an Apple and the spinning ball thing. The on/off switch doesn't work and the home button doesn't work either.
I tried hooking the IPT with just the USB cable, but nothing happens.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Lauren,
I did what you asked and was able to get the IPT hooked up with the cable. It's currently do a "Restoring iPod software".
The progress bar is moving very slowly. Is this normal and also one other question. Will this affect the January update? The $20 additional software?

Well... it's not actually an iTunes or even an Apple question is it? But you can use either Shazam or Soundhound.
If you do a search for both of them, you will find the various options available to you, which include apps for portable devices and in the case of Shazam, a work-round that allows you to use an online option using your computer's microphone on either a PC or Mac.
There may be other services as well, but I know these two.
I do not receive any reward (financial or otherwise) as a result of mentioning either Shazam or Soundhound.

I wonder if anyone else would like to do this. At work I'm a tester, so I usually find conditions in the software that no one else can. I sync up my podcasts every 3 days or so, when I feel like I have time in the morning. I set the iPod to delete the played ones and copy in the new ones. I only want to keep New podcasts, but certain ones, like " meditations", I listen to often but I don't want them deleted "these are short 5 minute meditations which are a nice weay to start my 1 hour commute". I noticed that there was a "Do Not Auto Delete" selection in iTunes. Even if this is set, the Meditations podcast are deleted from my iPod. The only way that I can get them back on is to "Mark as New" in iTunes. Do I have to mark them as new everytime that I sync, it would make sense that the "Do Not Auto Delete" would not delete the podcasts you select. This is a minor inconvenience, but I hate it when I forget to "Mark as New" and then my Meditations are not on my iPod, bummer. Thanks in advance.

Javascript !--ipt tag in jsp newbie question

My jsp engine and/or the server is mangling javascript's <script> tag. Any ideas?
I'm using Tomcat 4.0.3 and JDK 1.3.1_01. Will appreciate any help.

The intermediate java source code produced by the jsp-compiler looks fine, e.g.:

Any other ideas?

IPT Clusters Data Center Move 8.6(2a)SU3‏

Hi Voice Experts,
Any help will be appreciated, I have read Cisco BCP and understand the best practice but Cisco doesn’t talk clearly about the questions mentioned [only adding subscriber needs a cluster reboot is confirmed but wanted to know from the experience of experts here]:-
We have a plan to move data center for IPT Clusters, and we are working for POC for server build as of now, I would need your guidance for the following questions:-
1-      Adding a new Subscriber:
a.       Is rebooting for all nodes in a cluster required?
b.      Is this mandatory to remove the subscriber from the list of servers from publisher before building the same subscriber in a live environment? [lets say need to replace MCS server for a subscriber]
c.       Can the replica subscriber be built in an isolated environment first by building the replica Publisher and then Subscriber, and later promote this newly build subscriber in live environment by replacing this with the original non working subscriber?
2-      Node licensing:
a.       The node licensing reflects the no of Subscribers in a cluster [not non subscribers like MOH, TFTP servers], lets say we have one subscriber in one data center, we need to move this in another Second data center, so can we build this server with different ip address in live running environment [will shut down the original subscriber first before promoting newly built server as SUBSCRIBER considering node licensing limitations], is that doable ? OR First we need to decommission the current running server from one Data Center and then start building the subscriber in second data center?

I dont quite follow what you are trying to do, are you actually going to move your whole cluster to a DC?
if you move DC, can you move your VMs across and Re-IP?
if you are going to build new subs in the new DC, you will need to add these to your existing cluster yes, no full reboot of your cluster should be required when adding a sub. once you have all subs spun up in your new DC, move your phones across to it (change option 150 in each voice subnet). lastly Re-IP your PUB to fit in the new IP range in your new DC
always make sure you ready the release notes!!!!!
You will need to get temporary licences for your interim period where you have a bunch of sub in the new as well as the old DC. All you need is node licences. Speak to your reseller.

Connecting IPT to my bookshelf stereo via Ipod AV Conncetion Kit

Hi everyone,
I connected my IPT to my stereo via Ipod AV connection kit usint 3.5 mm jack from the dock that came with the kit.
Once connected, the stereo's built-in amp does not take over the volume control of the IPT. IPT works but I need to crank up the volume to about 85% and crank up the volume of the stereo to high setting to get loud enough of sound.
When I had the mini with the mini dock connected, the volume was soley controlled by the sterio only, hence pretty loud.
I know that the IPT now has "incompatible" issues with the older accessories but do I need to buy the new universal dock to "fix" this problem?
Any comments would be appreciated.

I have seen reports in other postings that the iPod outputs audio only from video sources, not from music sources, through a 3-connection AV mini-plug cable such as the Apple AV cable. Maybe (based on your report) the issue is only with the Universal Dock and not the iPod itself. Anyway, try using a 2-connection stereo mini-plug cable which may transmit audio from both music and video sources. If you have S-video inputs on your TV, you can use the Monster iTV Link cable, available from the Apple Store and (cheaper) elsewhere, which combines S-video and stereo mini-plug cables. Otherwise, if you must use an AV cable for video, you may have to change connections to a stereo cable when you play music. (Why doesn't the Apple Store tell you this, you might ask?...)

have my iPt now for two weeks and think it is time for this list. additions welcome
bugs/ inconsistencies:
- shuffle icon doesn't turn off when turning it off in "shuffle all songs" mode
- when switching back to video, the currently played video should be present as with music play
- once switched 24hr mode, switching back to 12hr mode doesn't work
- Japanese IME not available in widescreen orientation
- orientation doesn't change whilst in input mode
- screen orientation for all screens
- 360 degree screen; orientation change in any direction (currently only works one way)
missing features:
- the usual suspects: scheduler edit, missing email, 3rd party sdk
- album/ artist shuffle
- video/ tv shows continues play
- apple should talk to apple: safari support for apple .mac websites (email, quicktime)
- usb disk support
- better volume and position control as fine tuning is difficult; maybe reintroduce circular motion
- itunes-like search

Not sure what you are referring too... If I tap the screen once to get the commands to come up and then tap the shuffle icon, it changes from blue to white depending on whether shuffle on or off.

once they keyboard comes up (input mode) and you tilt the iPt, it doesn't switch orientation anymore until you finished

Actually, if you are in the music section, you can turn the screen to get an orientation in 3 positions. The only one position it wont move to is the one where the IPT is upside down.
1. it should be able to switch in any section; even in lists because this would be natural for a user.
2. upside down should definetly work because many people will have the iPt in a pocket, or additionaly, like me in a small pouch-bag. since the headphone jack is on the bottom, the natural position on first view when taking it out will always be upside down in such cases.

Isn't that pretty much the same as song shuffle? I don't think I have ever gone to a song on the same album, much less the same artist.
no. i am a bit old school, mind me saying that, and am usually listening to whole albums. so, i just want the next album being choosen by random. btw, itunes and the old iPods have this functionality already. as for the artists, i think, the same should apply and am sure to use it. maybe it is not your listening style but i know plenty of people doing it.
If you go into the selection list that arranges by album or artist and select a song through there the shuffle works just on the album or artist you opened, if that was what you meant.

I think i read somewhere that you should be forwarded too the .mac website that is made for the IPT and the iPhone
well, i am not forwarded to other than just the regular mail interface when going to webmail.mac.com. just viewing is fine but trying to compose a message always breaks somewhere, either entering the address field before entering the text field, or when getting it right when pressing "sent". in such cases the the IPt just returns to the main application screen and that is it for this. if you find what you were mentioning, pleasxe post

Not sure what you are refering too.... using the IPT for storage or using a USB key for extra space to store on the touch
well, both would be cool, though we might get that one with the upcoming SDK, but at least as USB key as with the old iPods

Switching for Cisco IPT

Here is a question a customer emailed me today
" so im looking at the Cisco IPT solution and its impressive. after noticing the costing, i see no way of justifying the switching infrastructure. our entire organization is based on dell switching and Cisco routers.
we intend to stay with this as our switches are new has QOS and POE enabled as well as IEE power compliant as i understand and will work with the Cisco Phone models. we can also acheive the same measure of redundancy as proposed in the 3-layer model that Cisco applies. please advise as to if there are any limitations of these switches as i cannot see any at this point in time"
from a pre-sales prospective how do you justify changing to Cisco, and more importantly, from a TECHNICAL prospective do we convince the customer to change or leave?

In terms of implementation and operation: if you follow the separate VLANs for voice and data model - which you probably should - you will have to manually set the correct VLAN on every phone in the phone settings. phones use CDP to discover voice VLAN. I've done a deployment with non-Cisco switches such as this, and it definately slows things down. Of course you don't want to hurt any feelings, but... there is a reason Dell was giving away their switches for free a few years back. I like to save money too, but I wouldn't stake my business on running critical infrastructure this level of switch.

Install New Firmware in Cisco IPT 7962

Dear All;
I have Call Manager version: 8.5.1.10000-26 and Cisco IPT 7962.
When connect new Cisco IPT 7962 to our call manage and make reset phone to force IPT install Firmware from call manager the phone cant take the firmware and system crashed the cisco logo appear on screen only .
After that i am download the "cmterm-7942_7962-sccp.9-2-1SR2.cop" from cisco and upload this pack to call manage and reset TFTP Service.
IPT 7942 Take the New Firmware Successfully But still the problem in Cisco IPT 7962 the phone still appear Cisco Logo only.
How I can Solve this Problem

If only one 7962 is affected you can try a factory reset using the following steps, else try connecting this 7962 to the switchport where a working 7942 is connected and see if it changes anything.
Unplug the power cable from the phone and then plug it back in. The phone begins its power up cycle.
While the phone is powering up, and before the Speaker button flashes on and off, press and hold #. Continue to hold # until each line button flashes on and off in sequence in amber.
Release # and press 123456789*0#.

Transfer from IPT to ITunes

I reloaded my computer OS and of course lost my Itunes stuff on the hard drive. Now I want to save what is on my IPT 2g to the newly reloaded Itunes. The sync messages indicate they will erase the (music, videos, etc) on the IPT and replace with what is in Itunes (nothing). How do I transfer from my IPT to the newly installed Itunes?

Have you ever considered what would happen if that player stopped working or was lost/stolen? If you didn't have a backup of your music on it then you would have lost the device AND your valuable collection. Apple has always restricted the ability to sync non-purchased data from iPod to computer so at this point anyone that purchases an iPod should be aware of this. It is always a good idea to back up data you have on any device that allows you to. It may seem like an inconvenience but it won't feel like one when you actually need it.

Cracked Screen On An IPT 4G

My Niece got a new Ipod Touch 4G for Christmas and yesterday she took it with her on the way to the mall. She lives in Ottawa Canada, and the temp yesterday was around -3C or 27F. While on the way to the mall she pulled it out of her pocket and found that there were cracks in the LCD screen. She didn't drop it or have anything else in her jacket pocket that would account for the cracking, and she was terribly disappointed.
I did some searching and found that there were a few others that also had this type of thing happen to them as well. She went down to the Local Apple store in Ottawa and explained what had happened and to my surprise they were *VERY VERY NICE* and replaced the IPT free of charge, even though it was purchased at BEST BUY which would nothing to do with problem.
So Hats off to Apple for taking the high road and standing behind their products, as this would have been a big disappointment for my niece to loose her IPT so soon after just getting it.

IPT Crisis! Help!

I bought the iPT 16gb three weeks ago in a retailer in Detroit, MI while in a Travel and here are my issues:
- Frozen screen after syncing. Totally dead.
- Coverflow, photos 90º flip and Safari web page 90º flip doesn't work when restarted. After some hours of using, works. But it would eventually freeze.
- When I restart, the whole screen and the apple appears darker. I need to wait literally for hours to get answer. Even restarting it with the PC.
- Songs were skipping and no sound was reproduced whatsoever.
- I tried restarting, reseting, turning on-off, everthing.
I'm totally dissapointed with my device. I think it brings innovation and style but it just doesn't work. I've tried everything.
I live in Venezuela and there are no Apple stores here, just second hand "Authorized Dealers". Should I call directly to the retailer in Detroit to send back my unit? Who should I contact? What should I do? There aren't too many options for people in Latin America.
Please help... I'm totally ****** off and I'm about to throw the damm thing to the wall.

Received error message when updating to 1.1.4 and no IPT has nothing.

when updating to 1.1.4, received an error message and now my IPT looks as it did when i bought it and before setup. itunes doesn't recognize it to restore it. what can i do?

What error message did you receive?
Your best bet is to go to add/remove and uninstall Itunes, Quicktime and the Apple Mobile device and then reboot and download the latest Itunes and install it and Quicktime again. (if you purchased the Apps make sure to do a backup of the file iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa and you may also want to backup your Itunes music account as well)
Once you've backed up and re-installed everything and made sure it's up to date then hook back up your IPT and try and restore it. If that doesn't work then have a look here http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/
You may also want to make sure your IPT is plugged into a good USB2.0 port such as the one on your motherboard and not the one in your front case. You should also disconnect any other USB devices execpt for keyboard and mouse just incase they are interfering with the IPT.

Honeywell Integration with Cisco IPT

One of my customer has BMS fom Honeywell. He needs to integrate this system with Cisco IPT 8.6.
IP telephony system shall be capable of providing a software adjustable temperature setpoint at each telephony terminal, this point info shall be synchronized with the BMS in order to provide the telephony user the ability to adjust the room temperature setpoint from the telephony set, or from the room wall module, and the final value of the point shall be determined as of the final order received from one of the two destinations.
The link between the two systems, BMS and IP Telephony, shall be in one of the below methods:
•1- Open protocol connection (BACnet, OPC DA, or Modbus)
•2- SDK development tool provided by Honeywell Building Solutions.
How can the above be achieved? What components do i require to achieve the above functionality?
