Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

  • McBook Pro Mac OS X 10.7.4 stuck on the white screen on shut down.

I would appreciate help on this.
When choosing to shut down my MacBook Pro it closes everything and then gets stuck on the white screen. Unless I press continuously the on button it just stays there...
Any ideas what the problem might be?

Just wanted to add my own insight to this thread. I do have the same issue.
    - I'm using a Macbook Pro 2011
    - I'm using OSX Lion with full disk encryption (That's FileVault I think)
    - I'm using Paralles Desktop Build 7.0.15094
    - I'm using alot of different development USB peripherals (routed to a Windows 7 virtual machine)
    - The installation of the 10.7.4 might not have completed 100% ... it was also stuck ( can't remember if it was re-booting or if progress bar never reached 100% ) for several hours (I basically let computer do whatever it needed to do overnight, I figure it might have to re-encrypt a large (if not all ) part of the disk ) so the next morning I simply shut it off.

Has the phone been unlocked officially? Has the phone been jailbroken in the past? If yes, these could be reasons for the behavior of the phone.

  • IPhone 3GS works fine, unless I the screen goes black after no use.  Then I'm stuck on the white screen until I reset the phone.

The title kind of sums it up.  After having my 3GS for over a year without issue, it started acting up today.  I had my phone on my desk at work, and had been checking my e-mail, news, and web intermittently throughout the morning.  I set the phone down, in it's typical spot without issue.  No dropping, no hits, no...nothing.  Just set it on the desk and go about my work.
The next time I pick up the phone to use it, and hit the button, I'm greeted with an all-white screen.  WTH?  If I press and hold the home button the phone makes a "dunk" soud, like maybe I'm enabling the voice feature.  Long story short, I can restart the phone, and reset the phone, and it's fine.
UNTIL the screen goes dark from inactivity.  From that point on, it will ONLY come back in the full-white-screen mode UNTIL I reboot it again, in which case it's again functioning normally...UNTIL the screen goes black from inactivity.  I can hear the phone make text-alert noises as texts come in, my e-mail continues to download regularly, etc.  But it stays stuck in this white screen anytime the battery saver turns the screen black.
    Any ideas on this?

So, I've received and installed a replacement digitizer screen / component.  The good news is that the digitizer works just fine!  Screen swipes, finger tracking, etc are all great.
The bad news...is that it didn't fix my white screen issue.  Same symptoms...everything works fine at boot.  As long as I keep the screen from going dark, everything continues to work fine (rapidly consuming battery, of course).  If, at any time, the screen goes dark (get a call, accidentally press the top button to shut down the screen, etc), the screen will only come back on as a white screen.
All touch components are working fine at this time.  I've grown to remember where the "power down" swipe is located, so I press and hold the power down button, then swipe where I know the "power down" swipe is located.  Phone will shut down.
Restart the phone, and repeat the process.  Anyone have any other ideas?

  • Macbook was frozen, did a hard shut down, when powered up it is stuck on a white screen with a rotating dial

macbook was frozen, did a hard shut down, when powered up it is stuck on a white screen with a rotating dial

Sounds like the 'white screen of death'.
Try rebooting your phone. Take the battery out for a few minutes then re-insert battery and see what happens. It may take some time to reboot. There have been numerous "fixs" for this problem, but until RIM come up with a definitive answer to stop it happening, then really theres nothing we can do except try some things. The battery pull has been offered on a few forums and some say it worked for them. Worth trying again.
    You could always try THIS
but that seems a bit extreme, but may work if the reboot doest. Do you remove the battery whilst its still on? thats how you normally do a reboot. take batt out whilst powers on. Sorry if this doesnt help, but i know theres people all over the net that get this issue.

  • My ipod touch 4th gen. is stuck on the white screen and my lock button is broken

My ipod touch is stuck on the 'white screen of death' and every website says to hold down the lock/wake button and the home button to fix it. But my lock button is jammed. How do I fix it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it says place the iPod in recovery mode use this program
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you are not using Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks then use the following procedure:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

See Gray screen, hold shift key upon booting, perhaps that can get you in and then backup your user files to a external storage drive (not timemachine)
