My itunes account is set up with an email that is no longer active. How do I change the email on the account?

I initially set up my itunes account with my work email address. Now that I no longer work there, I want to have my apple ID associated with my personal email address. Do I need to create an entire new account or is there a way to just change the email address?

You can change it. At the top of iTunes, click Store > View My Account, log in with your password, View Account. To the right of your Apple ID click the word Edit, and it will take you to a page where you can edit your email address.
You are right to avoid creating a new account if at all possible, since having multiple accounts usually causes complications down the line.

Try to change your Apple ID back to your old email address (http://appleid.apple.com) in order to set up and activate the phone. After the set up please sign out of iCloud and turn off "Find My iPhone" (Settings > iCloud) - do that on all your devices -, then change your Apple ID to your new address again and then add your iCloud account on you devices again.

Go to Settings, and then turn iMessage and FaceTime on if they are off. If they are on, then turn them both off, restart the phone, then turn them back on.
Go back to Settings > iCloud. Whether the current or old email address is displayed there, try your current password.

You don't need to unpair it with the old machine, the mouse is unaware of the pairing. Turn the mouse off and back on and pair it to the new machine in System Preferences > Bluetooth.

I assume you mean "How do I change the ID on my iOS device", go settings > iCloud, scroll down and delete the account, then add it back using the updated details.
The data is in the cloud, you will not lose any data by deleting the account on the iOS device.

You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data. If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s). Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud. In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple. Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account. When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process. If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service. They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID.

Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me. Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), click "Manage your Apple ID", and sign in.
If you have two-step verification turned on, you'll be asked to send a verification code to the trusted device associated with your Apple ID. If you are unable to receive messages at your trusted device, follow the guidelines for what to do if you can't sign in with two-step verification.
In the "Apple ID and Primary Email Address section," click Edit.
Enter the email address you want to use, then click Save Changes. Apple will send a verification email to that address.
Open the email from Apple, then click Verify Now in the email.

On each of the phones you're gonna use a new Apple ID for iCloud: turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

ibooks were downloaded onto my husband's ipad under a different itunes account (a @me account that is no longer active or accessible). he subsequently used our family itunes account. The ibooks he originally bought that are on his ipad I cannot access and I would like to be able to download these onto my ipad to read.
How can I access these books on my ipad?

Your best bet may be to try and connect that ipad to your itunes and go to file-devices-transfer purchases, and then see if you can add them to your device. I doubt this will work however as they have DRM that will tell you they dont belong to the account you're using.
It is likely you'll need to try and use the account they were purchased with to redownload them.

If you can prove ownership to the Macs, call Apple Care and request the Account Security Team.
